Christmas Belle (2013)
What's with the constant score music?!
The story kept my attention, although the script was awkward and stilted. But the music during the ENTIRE movie was so invasive it ruined the movie. The male lead was attractive and Duff was refreshing because she is a normal weight woman, not a stick figure. The setting was beautiful.
A Handful of Dust (1988)
Acting good, but story not great.
I was hopeful when this film started that it would be very enjoyable, the setting was my favorite, a big manor house in the country of England, and the genre being a period film, is also my favorite. But as it got on, I was not happy with where the plot was going. The actors did a fine job. Except for Kristin Scott Thomas's character, the self-centered Brenda Last, the character development was not good. James Wilby as Tony Last was very good, he made me really root for this character and I suppose that is why I hated the end so much. He deserved a better ending. Rupert Graves as John Beaver, was quite dull with no charisma, so I couldn't figure out why Brenda would fall for him. There were some great actors in the cast: Judi Dench, Angelica Houston, and Alec Guinness etc. The story did nothing to allow these great actors to really show their stuff. Angelica's role was a cameo at best. Judi Dench had a bit more lines, but really also a cameo.
Additionally, the Brazil part of the movie seemed quite out of place. I'm sorry, but the end left me feeling cheated and saying "What?!". Not my cup of tea. I was going to recommend it to a lady I know that likes period films, but after it was over, I changed my mind.
Grace of My Heart (1996)
Started to watch it....
Just wasn't my cup of tea.
I didn't care for Ileana Douglas's acting.
Also, I think that the time has passed where Hollywood needs to hire an
actor that needs to be dubbed. There is so much talent out there who
can sing AND act. It just didn't seem well done to me. Sort of like a
cheaply made-for-TV movie. I didn't like the strange accent that John
Turturro was doing for his character. I've seen other films that depict
past years of the music business that I liked better such as "Coal
Miner's Daughter" and "Ray" and "What's Love Got to Do with It" I would
recommend those to anyone who want to watch a similar premise. Just my
opinion.

Jude (1996)
Somber and tragic
If you are in the mood to be depressed for the rest of the day, go ahead and watch this film. It seems every other scene is filmed in a rainy downpour. I never really found myself rooting for the protagonist, Jude, which is probably just as well because things never did seem to go his way due to bad luck, poor choices, and his unfavorable social status. Did I mention bleak?
The Women (1939)
They just don't gossip like that anymore!!
A funny look at the world of society women. Rich with gossip, scandal, divorce, and even a cat fight thrown in for good measure. Rosalind Russell is especially wonderful as the wag-tongued Sylvia. No men in the movie at all, yet the women's lives revolve around keeping them, catching them, losing them, and getting them back. Highly recommend it.
A Good Baby (1999)
Characters Lack Depth
This movie could have been much better if more time was spent on character development. There are several untold stories. I felt as though I might have missed the first half of the movie. But I didn't.
Sweethearts (1997)
Janeane Good-Movie Bad
It started out very promising. Although this movie had some very witty lines delivered impeccably by Janeane, it was still very depressing. Margaret Cho was very good and I wish she had a story line too.
