Conspiracy Theory: Did We Land on the Moon? (2001)
Quite entertaining...
I find conspiracy theories, particularly well-researched ones, fascinating. This film makes you think about something that you perhaps never considered -- that man may actually have never landed on the moon. The thought surely had never crossed *my* mind before! It asks very interesting questions.....even a few I *have* wondered about, but never attributed it to being a hoax -- for example, why there seem to be no stars in the photographs from the moon. Some of the stuff they show is pretty convincing....such as two film clips supposedly showing two different locals on the moon, but when shown overlapped, they are the same location (however I agree this is a case of bad editing or a mislabel!) Though the questions brought up are interesting, the answers given are lame (though a few are somewhat convincing), and obviously biased, with almost no comment by 'the other side' (the scientists/researchers/ASTRONAUTS who believe we went to the moon). Overall, this will either freak you out, make you laugh or just remind you not to accept things without question.
Nothing Sacred (1997)
sigh - I miss it. :(
What a great show. I mean truly great. It had depth, drama, light-heartedness, wit and charm. Kevin Anderson as Father Ray will be one of my favorite television characters (it hurts to even see Kevin in a film, as it brings back the pain from knowing this show was cancelled). I also loved Scott Campbell as Father Eric.
The Christmas episode was one of my favorites -- though I looked forward to each one and enjoyed each immensely. I was lucky enough to have watched the pilot episode which totally got me hooked (I had not heard about it, just happened to be looking for something to watch that night). There has been so much, horrible junk on television, I was so taken by this show that was intelligent, creative and thoughtful -- how many shows can you say that about?? As dedicated a fan I became, I found it very difficult to keep up with the show, as ABC would change the showtime on almost a weekly basis, showing it on different days and at different times, with no warning to the viewer. I also recall that it was often put up against such audience-holding shows as 'Friends' and 'Seinfeld'. However, I managed to convince several people to give up these shows for Nothing Sacred!!
But then ABC pulled the plug. I was in complete shock!! I boycotted ABC for three years. I have been devastated ever since, and can't wait to get my hands on a taped set of the show -- of course, it's incomplete -- so much more could have been made and done with this show. What a complete shame -- I am positive that if it had been given more time (and a reliable schedule) it would have drawn in quite an audience. If you have seen, or are able to see Nothing Sacred, consider yourself lucky to have been witness to television's glimmer of hope.
Dracula 2000 (2000)
Yeah!! It doesn't suck!!
Due to recent acts of movie let-downs, I have started to lose faith in the horror genre. The last truly scary movie I have seen was the unique Blair Witch Project......and, no, Dracula 2000 is not what I would call a truly scary movie. After seeing the awful BW2: Book of Shadows, the stupid Hollow Man, and the uneventful The Cell, I didn't expect much from Dracula 2000. But I saw 1998's Vampires and survived, and I really like vampire movies so I had to see it, right? Let me tell you -- I ENJOYED this movie!! No, the acting isn't the greatest or most convincing (what the h*ll is Jeri Ryan doing here?), the action is not very diverse (but at least it's there!!), and the very end is somewhat disappointing....(is it selling yet?).......BUT -- I still liked it. I thought it was pretty crazy to even think of making another Dracula movie -- but they told a pretty good story, which was somewhat daring and creative. There were a few scary parts (like really scary!!) and some good lines.....which really let me see that this movie had lots of potential to be even better. It seems like it just needed a little more care, a little more time to develop certain details that would have made it more scary and impacting. I give this movie 8 stars because it restored my faith in horror, and was a surprisingly good effort at expanding the Dracula story (I love good surprises).
Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000)
The worst movie ever made?
I think we have found a winner for the worst movie ever made!!! I know that there is a trend for horror movies to be poorly made or made with ridiculous plots, but this movie tops 'em all. Why does it fail so miserably? Because -- nothing happens!!!!! This was not a scary movie. This was not a suspenseful movie. It was not creative, mysterious, illuminating, terrifying, startling or even funny. No emotion. You never care about what has happened, or what will happen cause you start to get the idea -- nothing happens! Do not see this movie -- I wish I had been given such advice before I saw this miserable film. It's really that bad.
