Crazy/Beautiful a step for Dunst; start for Hernandez
1 July 2001
Let me get this out of the way right now...I love Kirsten Dunst. There, not that I admited that let me get on with my opinion. I thought that Crazy/Beautiful was a good movie overall, but I think that the high points of the picture come from Kirsten Dunst expanding herself to fit a role that is basically opposite of all her other appearences. She plays a troubled teen, similar to Lux Lisbon, her role in The Virgin Suicides, but as Lisbon her character seems to have everything figured out. As Nicole Oakley in Crazy/Beautiful, her problems are right up front, and Dunst shows the dark side of teen life wonderfully. Jay Hernandez does a great job with his character, the poor, but hard working and ambitious Carlos Nunez. This is a great start for Hernandez in his first major role as far as I know. Over all, I think that Crazy/Beautiful is a quality movie for fans of Kirsten Dunst (YES I AM) and those tired of the perfect teen flicks. 7/10

What can you say? Sequels are rarely ever impressive, but it does have it's moments.

Again I find myself defending a Crow movie. Not as good as the original, but it is mostly the originals fault. The studio put so much unneeded pressure on it by over doing it with promotion, and in the long run, it hurt the film. In my opinion, amazing visuals, and a good story line to work with, but again, comparison to The Crow, which is unfair, hurts the films quality in many people's eyes. It is hard to replace such a loved star in a movie, and Perez probably had a hard time dealing with the mystique or whatever with the role. What would you do if you had to play a role that made a man famous, but also cost him his life? Overall, I think that the story and actual filming of the movie were very good, but the characters often lack substance, but it is a quality movie if you like the series, and I give it much, much higher than the IMDB rating.

Good story, decent acting, decent film

When I rented The Crow: Salvation, I have to admit, I didn't think it would be remotely close to good. I figured, "Hey, it's The Crow, and hey it's Kirsten Dunst." But I am happy to say I got more then I bargined for. Don't get me wrong, this movie isn't excellent, but it's enjoyable. Anything that you don't have to turn off half way through is worth the 3.71 to rent these days. Anyway, Eric Mabius is good as Alex Corvis, who is the man inspired to defend both himself and the memory of his raped and murdered girlfriend Lauren, by a crow with other worldly powers. Kirsten Dunst, who I personally love, and hope to father her children, (Note: Only half serious about that fathering children part)is good as Lauren's sister, Erin. All in all, The Crow: Salvation is better than the 4.9 over all rating, which is why I mocked everyone by giving it a non-deserved 8. In all seriousness, the picture is about a 7 at best, but if you liked the idea of The Crow, and the other two movies, or you want to spend 3.71, then this is the movie for you.

Decent at best.

I would like to say, first off, that the company I was with made this movie more enjoyable then it might actually have been, so my opinion might be biased. I found the movie cliche, but then again, it was a teen romance. The contrasting charecters were a little unreal, but then again a white, upper-middle class girl, just strolls into South Side Chicago, and begins rolling with the kids in the school in no time at all, over shadowing one unrealistic element with another. If you are into teen movies, then it is good. The music, and the dance in the club scenes were quality, but an average movie, overall.
