Pretty Things (2005 TV Movie)
3/10
Great subject matter and archival footage, film maker failed.......
27 July 2005
I agree with the first two comments up front. Goldwyn had such a treasure trove at her finger tips, and she squandered it for a self indulgent "art school" project. Honestly, I can see a college art professor getting really excited by the idea of this....Because the idea of school is to inspire the creativity of their students. But, this movie is so awful, and it could have been great. I've been collecting old pin-up mags and photos for years (by the way, I'm a 35 yr. old married gal..) and actually know some of these women by face & name. Goldwyn should be ashamed, her passive aggressive tactics were stomach turning...."But you look so beautiful in that photo, I could never be that beautiful..can I try on your delicate costume that's over 50 years old, show me how you wore it..." PLEASE!!!! She should have just been honest with these women, the result would have been the same...It's more repulsive to me knowing this kid is Hollywood royalty, it would have been so nice if she was actually cool...not to mention talented in terms of the true art of documentary film making. I would find myself engrossed in the interview footage, and the archival stuff, and then there she would pop up, like a second rate Madonna circa. 1989. GET OVER YOURSELF! I apologize, this is the meanest comment I'll ever leave, because I'm so sad that the women featured (when Goldwyn was not hogging the film stock) deserved better! While the subjects were lively and engaging and such a kick to watch, the interruption of the film maker was jarring and ultimately unpleasant. Oh %!@*!, and she can't sing!! And her vocals are all over the soundtrack! (Covering old standards, of course...) If you're reading this Liz Goldwyn, I apologize for being mean, but if the point of your film was provoke a reaction (no matter what kind) I suppose you have done a fine job.....I mourn the loss of so many of these great ladies. Peace.

Crime Story (1986–1988)
Why are there not more postings for this awesome show!
1 July 2005
I miss it, and it's been nearly 20 years! I'm just surprised there is not a bona-fide cult following for this show! If anyone reading this disagrees, well speak up!! The show premiered when I was a teenager, and I thought it was cool as sh%#! Of course, I was also watching Pee-Wee's playhouse, Joes Bob Briggs Drive-In Theatre, going to see Roy Orbison in concert one last time. And while the addition of cast member Andrew Goldman (Dice-Clay) may not have done much in retrospect for the show, I'll be damned if it didn't prove that he could actually act! I'm not kidding, he did a fine job! Dennis Ferrina, the Maimi Beach widows dream, so my (much older) ex used to tell me... I've been rooting for him ever since this show. (And Midnight Run paid off!)Not sure yet on Law & Order.....

The Wind (2001)
Great film!
19 April 2004
I've had the opportunity to see this film on the big screen, but plan on buying the DVD to add to my collection. A great example of what a truly independent film-maker can achieve. Mongillo creates a stunning atmosphere of suspense and I found myself engrossed from start to finish. Without relying on excessive gore or over the top violence, Mongillo gets his point across in a tightly packed film. A fine cast of players, good script and a memorable visual style add to its credits. It's also a nice break to see someone craft a picture like this, in an era of fully studio backed "independent" projects. Cool movie, see it when you get the chance!

Pumpkin (2002)
A poor attempt at black comedy......
29 November 2002
A very poor attempt at black comedy. As to Pumpkin being compared to Heathers, the only connection I can make is that both film makers attempted to create something quirky and different. But where Heathers triumphed with humor and a delicious sense of nastiness, Pumpkin fails to capture even a sense of itself. I "get" it, but I don't care for it. And, for those of you who agree with that, did this movie seem incredibly long? I looked forward to the release of this DVD, Pumpkin didn't make the rounds of any theatres in my area. So, I really wanted to like it. But, alas....

Sooooo good to see Tierney sooooo bad....
7 February 2002
While it's not complete genius, I think this movie is just awfully entertaining! Tierney's character should rank up there with all the great evil ladies of the screen. The film is beautiful to look at, the story moves along....the shock of what Tierney will do for the demented love she feels for Cornel Wilde! I don't want to give too much away for those who have yet to see it, just rent it and enjoy!
