Nice!

I can say, this was my first Indian movie. It was really enjoyable to watch. I got sucked in to the story and couldn't put it down! It's not an American or British movie. It's told in that cultures storytelling way. I admit I was expecting something a bit different and more whimsical. But in the end, this movie stayed with me for the past couple weeks. I can honestly say that I've never seen a movie quite like this one before Oh, and I wish I could see another movie just like this. Give it a try.

What a piece of crap!
9 March 2021
First of all, the movie really doesn't have anything to do with a dachshund. It's a prop in the background. The movie features a few vignettes with different very screwed up people. It's very disjointed. I'm very awkward. I hope whoever wrote this doesn't do another movie like this. This was not a warm and fuzzy movie! This was a train wreck in slow motion with bad dialogue with no real story. Let's not go to the ending. That was horrible!!! This was totally a waste of my time! I probably would have had a more enjoyable time watching Marley and Me.

all the trappings :(
21 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I was really disappointed with this movie. I am not a great fan of Tim Allen to begin with, but I like Jamie Curtis. I was expecting something different going into this one, but I was really floored, like watching a train wreck.

The entire first half of the movie revolving around the neighborhood Christmas Nazis demanding that the family decorate was really annoying. What business is it of anyone if someone doesn't decorate? People cant go on vacation for a holiday because the community demands you decorate for the holidays?

Then the sudden change in game where they have to put it all together and make it happen with all the trappings. Apparently it's not about family and friends, but the lights, parties, decorations and presents, as well as conforming to status quo of what is expected.

There is an attempt to make it warm and fuzzy, but it just comes off as a Tim Allen vehicle, including the neighbor who played his father in law on his TV show.

This is pathetic attempt to solidify his standing with Christmas movies and leave a legacy. he should have stopped at the santa clause 2.

Jingle All the Way (2011 TV Movie)

Charming Story of a Boy and a Dog
17 December 2011
At first I thought that this was just a vehicle for a Hallmark talking plush that responds to voice cues. But I ended up watching the half hour special on the hallmark channel and was very impressed. The Claymation short was very well done and quite mesmerizing! A very heart warming story of the puppy and of course there is a happy ending, and all ends well.

You can read the synopses and that covers the story line. Owning the interactive plush would be very special for a kid(or anyone else) :) There are 2 storybooks available for purchase, and jingle responds to the TV as well. It's probably one of my favorites I have seen in a while..

Sweet and Nostalgic!
8 December 2011
I found this gem after searching for movies like "Meet me in St. Louis", it was listed as a movie made in the turn of the century era. This movie does compare to 'St. Louis'(in which Leon Ames also plays the father).

It was amazing to see Doris Day and Gordon Macrae so young and fresh! Then there was a younger Mary Wickes(of numerable roles, standing out as Sister Mary Lazerus of 'Sister Act'), and behold Ellen Corby(grandma Walton of 'the Waltons' fame!

Previous reviewers describe it perfectly! a Norman Rockwell, turn of the century, pre-WW1 movie, a gaslight romance perfectly wholesome. It's sweet and nostalgic.

I am eagerly awaiting to see the sequel, 'By the light of the Silvery Moon'!

If you like this style of movie, I recommend: 'It's a Wonderful life', 'Meet me in St. Louis', 'Life with father', 'Belles on their toes', 'The Bishop's Wife', and 'Shop around the corner'(1940).

Endearing and sweet
23 May 2010
I really appreciate this vintage Norman Tokar movie. There is always a sweetness throughout his movies, no matter what dark issues may occur in the story. I love Fred McMurray and a young Kurt Russell, to those who remember her, Lillian Gish.

Now, I am no fan of the boy scouts, I think some of their more modern policies are horrible and they are teaching the wrong things.

You may recognize many of the locations in this movies that have also appeared in more recent films such as country bears, Johnson family vacation, and a few others. This was one of Walt Disney's 'ranches', "golden Oak Ranch" to be exact. ""...In addition to Disney movies, including ''The Apple Dumpling Gang," "Treasure of Matecumbe," ''Pete's Dragon," and others, the Ranch has been used for "Roots II", "Bonanza," "Little House on the Prairie," "The Waltons,'' "The Muppet Movie," ''The Electric Horseman," Colonel Sanders chicken commercials, and much more...." 300 the martial arts film.
23 April 2010
I waited years for this sequel and I finally got it and I am so disappointed. It was basically 300: the martial arts movie. It was so loaded with cgi from backgrounds to character animations. it had a weak story that wasn't endearing like the first, and it was missing the action of the first movie as well as some of the more interesting 'powers'.

the original had the feel of a video game come to life and done very well. This one was like the goth version. it was dark, disjointed and didn't flow the way it should have.

what can I say? the reviewers before me pretty much nailed it and I hate to repeat. So there it is. the third movie is coming, I hope it is better than this one!

Amazing
23 April 2010
A little darker than most Disney movies(lighter than the black cauldron). But It was highly entertaining and my fellow reviews have already hit all the good points.

I am very happy with the newest Disney Princess! She is a hardworking girl and the prince is inept. It's good to see a more take charge princess. The music was fun yet has some flavor to it. yes, she is the first black princess, but who cares? seriously! We've had an Asian, American Indian & Hindi. Don't make such a big deal about it.

And as far as this having the word Princess in the title. This is a movie for both boys and girls. There is enough to entertain everyone who watches it! Don't let that fool you.

There were some highly well animated scenes that were mind blowing. the Cemetery and Mama Oddie's place to name two. They definitely returned to hand drawn animation and it was appreciated! There is nothing odder than when you see the computer generated mechanism, vehicle or ship go into a scene and these loose hand drawn flowing characters just zip through.. but the one spot that they used it was very well blended. It was great!

Perfect!
23 April 2010
This one is my all time favorite Disny Pixar movie! I think this is hilarious! I am excited for the next movie and I was exited over the shorts that I got to see on the Disney Channel! First there is the CGI, It is really beautiful here! So well done that you forget that you are watching cgi anime. There are plenty of background textures, and details to keep anyone entertained. This blows Toy Story away completely! Then there are the Characters. They are funny, well developed, entertaining and there are enough for everone to have a favorite! They became endearing and dimensional.

Now, I will say that I am not a nascar fan at all, and I thought this was going to be a race movie. I am so glad that its not and wasn't that would be as boring as watching cars go round a track for three hours! This actually had a story of interest and smaller plots around it.

So very happy about this movie!

Pass on This Bomb!
23 April 2010
Unfortunately I have found a Disney movie that I just absolutely hated. This is a version of Don Quixote set in the late 60's early seventies. It has none of the charm or whimsy that Disney live action movies had previous to this soiled gem. This is one of Ron Miller's wonders.

I bought the movie because of Brian Keith. I think he is handsome, funny and has a great air about him. Here he plays a sort of crazy old drunken codger who thinks he is a cowboy in the old west. He mumbles, rambles, and talks to himself and anyone who will listen. I guess it could be considered a strong performance, but it annoyed me.

His cohort is an illegal Mexican. Well, in the current economy when this is viewed, an illegal worker is not a character that I am interested in watching or being friends with. Then there is the foreclosure issue in the story that just hits home for too many. Additionally, there were sub plot story lines that I guess I didn't quite get involving him.

I love Disney live action movies pre 1980's, but this one just had Ron Miller's hand on it, you can sense it. It was trying to be too adult without being crude and stay entertaining to younger viewers, which it's not. This was all around disappointing!

Cute 60s movie from the Wonderful World of Disney
19 September 2009
It's a very cute Wonderful World of Disney Television movie from the early sixties. Produced by Ron Miller in 1963 before Walt died but after he gave control of it's TV movie departments over to others. It still has that Disney touch, but not in the same way as Norman Tokar movies of an earlier period.

It's generally about a traffic reporter who ends up with a thieving St. Bernard who gets into trouble. Two bumbling thieves and a jewel heist. It's actually got a lot of charm and cute jokes in it. It has that Disney feel of that time period, a bit corny, but in our world who can't use sweet charm and humor?

For anyone who grew up watching television in the early seventies, The Actor who Played Doby Gillis is in it, as well as a few background actors from other series such as Bewitched, Star Trek, and other seventies series.

Cute Wonderful World of Disney Movie
19 September 2009
I was able to acquire this title through Disney rewards as the title is not a regular title. It is an episode from the Wonderful World of Disney that used to show on Television back in the 70's and 80's. Filmed in the early sixties, it has the great charm of the era. It's a sweet little story about a small dog that well gets separated from his owners and the various changes in his life.

These are one of those films that precursors Benji and has the feel of a true life adventure from the dogs point of view narrated throughout very cute, very simple perfect for children of all ages. One of those gems that Disney produced in a far off and different time period.

Personally, I find various things that are of interest, the story is very cute, the charm of the time period, and a simple happy ending.

Father Christmas (1991 TV Short)
The Bad Americanized Version
6 December 2002
This version of Raymond Brigg's Father Christmas is a Butchered Americanized version. Narrated by an American actor, this version looses all the charm of the English version voiced by Mel Smith, the Original Father Christmas! This is NOT that version! This is a censored chopped version that just doesn't translate well over to American audiences.

In Father Christmas, Santa is not the Politically Correct Santa that prudish Americans would like you to see. He is a cantankerous Santa whom complains, and grumbles all the while that he is doing things. So much so, that he takes a vacation to Scotland, where he drinks at a Pub/bar. Vegas, were he gambles and smokes around bikini clad women. This Santa is shown as a normal person. At a couple times, they even show his butt, to which my God daughters think is the most hilarious thing. It gives a very strong impression that he is a real person. The American version is trying for that rankin/bass whimsical Christmas thing, but it just doesn't work with English Humor. Even the Finally song sung by the American actor shows a more benevolent, Richard Attenburough figure. The Elf-boss (Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer) is more cantankerous than the actor in this one. The original is more like an annoyed Bob Hoskins.

If you can, look for the F.H.E version of this movie online on Ebay. It's well worth it and extremely entertaining for both children and adults. It's no worse than the Grinch (Jim Carey version). Children won't notice some of the slightly more adult scenes that show only long enough for adults to register it. English humor abounds in this version.

To aid you in the search for the original are two ASIN numbers below:

English version number: ASIN: B000006672 Great Version!!!

Americanized Version Number: ASIN: 0767800400 Butchered!!!

The Bear (1998 Video)

Popular English Children's Book by Raymond Briggs
19 December 2001
An Animated tale in the style of Raymond Briggs' "The Snowman" and "Father Christmas", This tale is about a girl named tilly who visits the zoo and accidentally drops her teddy bear into the polar bear exhibit. Crying herself to sleep she wakes to find the polar bear in her room with he teddy bear. Tilly cares for the polar bear and hides it from her parents, which is no small feet. But he call of the wild bear constallation takes her on an adventure accross the night sky.

This is a must have Briggs' movie, all the charm and warmth of the first two animations are contained inside. Children and adults watch spellbound through another half hour of music and storytelling.

My best to the author and producers, please make more.

Gen-X Cops (1999)

Gen-X cops says it all!
28 December 2000
This movie is like lethal weapon, police academy, with a bit of extreme sports with the Gen-X attitude. This movie is great for anyone in the Gen-X age group. There are guns, fights, skydiving, dance clubs, a bit of romance, and a little comedy.

Some of the cinematography was gorgeous. The fight scenes, although not up to Jackie Chan's usual, were entertaining. There is a storyline to this one, and alot of hard hitting action sequences. This is all around entertaining. I would love to see another installment of this movie.

Synopsis: Three misfit ex-police cadets are chosen by another misfit to work undercover to infiltrate an arms ring. They are the cream of Generation X, with bad attitudes, rebellious, fashionable, and not quite orthodox. They take matters into their own hands to get the job done. The only problem is that the police think they're criminals, and their leader is a bit touched!

My Favorite movie!
28 December 2000
This is one of my favorite martial arts movies. There are lots of effects, a wonderful storyline, lots of wire-fu, and computer generated graphics. The actors are wonderful bringing these comic book characters to life. This is a totally different type of martial arts-fantasy movie.

Synopsis: The conqueror searching for a legendary sword kills two boy's fathers and adopts them(Cloud & Wind) to his clan. They are destined to be the conqueror's downfall. The conqueror sets up a love triangle(with his daughter) to keep them opponents so the do not unite against him.

But after the accidental death of his daughter things go out of the conqueror's hands.

Another movie made by Ekin Cheng along these lines is a movie called "a Man Called Hero". I have yet to see it but will review it in time. I also recommend "the Bride with White hair"(1 & 2), and "The Heroic Trio"(pt 1) and "The Executioners"(pt 2).

Epic adventure of Man vs. Nature
28 December 2000
This is one of the best animated movies I have seen. The re-released DVD version enhances the colors, and detail that the artists brought to this movie. There is a flowing style to the animation that keeps it smooth, and unobtrusive.

The dubbing into English Sucks. The American actors are good, but the storyline in english varies greatly and seems nonsensical to american audiences. I advise anyone who wishes to watch this film to watch with the original Japanese language and the English subtitles it retains a very powerful story andmeaning. Anyone into Asian films immediately understands this.

Synopsis: After a Boar-God-turned-Demon tries to destroy Ashitaka's village. Ashitaka carries a curse. He must leave his village to find the Deer God, to see "with eyes unclouded", and maybe get cured. Along the way he meets Princess Mononoke the wolf-girl, and her pack The Wolf-Gods, who are fighting Lady Eboshi, the leader of the ironworks, who is trying to kill the forest gods(the Deer-God, and the Boar-God), who's mountains she wished to get iron from.

This is an Anime must for any collection. This is not a martial arts movie. It's about Man vs Nature. The Message is powerful and animation is brilliant.

The Legend (1993)
Jet Li at his finest
28 December 2000
The martial arts sequences in this movie are incredible. This is one of Jet Li's best movies. It really shows of a lot of his skills, and is quite entertaining at the same time. There are a lot of fight scenes but they co-inside well with an intricate story. It's not just a fight movie.

The story is a bit involved and there are sub-plots I have not described. But this movie is well worth buying. I wish I could get a copy of Fong Sai Yuk 2, because I would love to see more of this movie.

Synopsis: Fong Sai Yuk is a late teen with a lot of martial arts skill, taught to him by his mother, equally as good. His father is part of a resistance against the empire. When the empire finds out that Fong Sai Yuk's father is the lead the are out for blood. Fong Sai Yuk, mean while meets and fights for a girl he wished to marry. Oh the eve of his wedding night, the empire and the Fong Family accidentally meet at the dinner table. Fighting erupts and they must fight or flee.
