The Doorway (2000)
Great example of supernatural thriller mixed with black comedy.
Michael Druxman has created a great ride for his audience with "The Doorway." A great thriller mixed with black comedy. A welcome rebirth of the scary films of the 50's. Don Maloney brought a comedic break to the supernatural thriller which made for a great balance. I found "The Doorway" to be a very entertaining independent film. It will be a great addition to my film collection.
Cast Away (2000)
disappointment/suprised/could have been so much better.
There were so many scenes in this film that dropped the ball. Scenes that could have been dramatic. Instead, they went nowhere. For instance...as Hanks waded through the water, cutting his feet on coral. Blood was everywhere...yet no sharks? And, why not switch back to what was happening at home? People were leaving during the film - and NOT COMING BACK. This is no slam against Tom Hanks, for he is truly gifted. But the script clearly had problems. Several scenes could have brought gasps from the audience, brought suspense, drama to the film, instead, the man beside me started snoring. Too many set-ups without going anywhere. This was the very first time that I was disappointed with a Tom Hanks film. In the cave...a skeleton would have worked. Maybe during the crash, Hanks could have been saved by the captain, then when Hanks was safe in the raft, the captain could have been washed overboard and drown in the high seas. Of course, this is just my opinion, but I was just so disappointed in this film. I thought the ending could have been more dramatic and Hunt could have brought up the ring that Hanks had given her before he left. She could have gone back to Hanks, or maybe her husband could have loved Hunt so much that he actually sacrificed his own happiness so Hunt would be happy with the love of her life. Oh well, Sorry. Such talented people involved, yet I went away disappointed. I don't think I was the only one.
