Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983)
Spectacular indeed
Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence: An Anglo Japanese war drama of 1983 in which singer and composer David Bowie played a key role. A skillful picturization of the various kinds of relationships between Japanese Commandants and British POWs. Really a good watch.
The Call of the Wild (2020)
Marvellous indeed
The Call of The Wild: A 2020 Harrison Ford starrer movie. A big and intelligent pet dog Buck is kidnapped and sent to Yukon, North America in 19th century to drag the sleds. He meets good and bad Masters and eventually ends up with the community he belongs to. This remake has a very fine cinematography and a perfect task of getting job done by the animals. The humanly performance of dog wets your eyes unknowingly. I remembered White Fang after watching this one.
Wadjda (2012)
Poweful
Wadjda : A powerful and beautiful Saudi Arabian movie of a first lady director Haifaa al-Mansour. Movie is about a teen girl Wadjda who dreams to own a bicycle which is very uncommon as girls are forbidden for that but she keeps on trying to collect the money with making bracelets and participating in Qur'an competition. Beautiful Reem Abdullah played the role of Wadjda's sad Mother who is depressed because of the second marriage of her husband.
Shiawase no kiiroi hankachi (1977)
Masterpiece
The Yellow Handkerchief : A Japanese masterpiece of 1977. One of the best 'Road' movies. Three strangers riding in a car and wander here and there with no purpose. When they start to know each other, situation turns and unknowingly bonded relationship amongst them won't allow them to separate from each other but it has to end somewhere. Brilliant acting from all the three characters and great cinematography of Japan countryside. You can watch Ken Takakura in a sensitive role after playing villain in The Bullet Train.
L'uomo delle stelle (1995)
Not to miss
The Star Maker: Whenever I watch this movie I feel deeply hurt and some thing has been lost. Relationship between Beata and Joe always introduces the new angles of humanitarian involvements every time. A real satire on deceitful behavior and broken dreams.
Giuseppe Tornatore tears you apart like Malena and Cinema Paradiso. A must see movie.
Il portiere di notte (1974)
Disturbing end
1974 English/italian drama..Post world war II a group of nazi officers are surviving in Vienna and eliminating the past records of their war sins..Max, a night Porter of a hotel and member of this SS group comes across a Holocaust survivor young girl Lucia he fell in love in the concentration camp. Passion from both sides lead them to the untime death as the remaining members want to eliminate the only witness of their black deeds. Charlotte Rampling is gorgeous as usual and Dirk Bogarde at his best.
