The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Overdoing the man hating
I've watched nearly all the series but I have to say I am totally sick of the man Hating, feminist story line. Its just so predictable- I have to conclude many Western woman watch it and love the whole sister hood bit getting revenge on "bad men".
It is a really clever idea and fantastically produced, no doubt, but it is just too much.
Revenge is not the answer. Never is.
I understand totally that even in 2023 there are woman, girls living under terrible oppression but this drama somehow taps into that to win the audience over.
Handmaids Tale Will particularly appeal to the modern Western woman as she sees herself now firmly in the driving seat and justified in seeking revenge because of bad things committed in the present and past.
I just don't believe the average bloke after many seasons can remain interested because the writers are targeting the modern woman.
The King of Staten Island (2020)
Total surprise
A real surprise, funny and sad, touching, thought provoking. As others have said perhaps a little long, but getting to the end it all comes together and kind of makes sense.
The Tourist (2022)
rubbish - semi interesting plot ruined
BBC should be ashamed of themselves. Starts off well and then after about series 3 it starts to be written by a random word generator. There are some super weird Aussie stereotypes as well.
It's poor and I can only assume the high scores are people obsessed about Doran - it's the only explanation.
I suppose if you see it as a spoof it might be worth a few more points.
No Time to Die (2021)
Best Bond for me - story and man, a fitting end to his run
Bond movies are meant to be escapism. Ordinary Jo can sit in front of the big silver screen and be transported to a glamorous, make believe world where the good guys take on the bad guys.
It's all there, Daniel Craig manages to bring romance ( yes I said it ) into the Bond series whilst remaining strongly masculine and without the interference of the WOKE pressures.
Lad: A Yorkshire Story (2013)
Terrible
I am gobsmacked it has such high reviews. I am afraid it is poor acting, a mixture of overacting and no acting. Sure the scenes of countryside are lovely but this is not enough to justify a film.
Shirley (2020)
Netflix standard formula
PC roles to keep the WOKE audience happy. Too predictable surely someone realises churning this stuff out is counter productive. We all want diversity but not as f it is done unintelligently.
Mogul Mowgli (2020)
Refreshingly different
Great film. Conveys so powerfully the complex stuff behind an Asian family life.
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Disgusting movie
Don't get it, truly awful and terrible movie. It is meant to be funny but I don't find it funny and never will watching people get butchered.
The Gentlemen (2019)
Funny witty fun Hugh Grant brilliant
Great fun witty unfolding plot movie with larger than life characters. The toddlers are hilarious. Hugh Grant brilliant makes you realise he is a really good actor. Who'd have thought the posh from Downton Abbey could be red hot.
Blue Story (2019)
A fantastic movie - moving
So funny reading the little twirp comments about ' I can't understand blah blah ' .. I didn't understand bits also but it made the film very real. I loved the way the rap was used a little as the narration. So sad - poverty - leads to this crazy violence.
Sexy Beast (2000)
A classic - fascinating movie
This is a great movie. Compelling, well acted and Ben Kingsley takes it to another level.
The Nest (2020)
I enjoyed it
As others have said, there are a few story lines that don't really go any where. However, some good acting especially Kaya and Doherty and enjoyable drama at points. I was initially troubled slightly as how to morally judge the ending twist - the girl power bit. Kaya is presented as the down trodden troubled victim but actually she made her choices. Therefore, in conclusion I believe the final action by Kaya was the right one - as it was essentially the plan from the beginning.
Bait (2019)
Great film with some grit and moral discussion
Fantastic film, refreshingly different. We watched the film with our 25 year old daughter and she loved as well. Don't watch if you want a Hollywood blockbuster - this film Is refreshingly opposite to that. Give the film at least 15 minutes to get used to it's format as it is slightly different.
The Current War (2017)
Good film, educational
It was enjoyable and educational without being terse. This film is not for people that do not appreciate science. This film is for people who appreciate the wonders of science. Shocking to know that Edison played his part in a disgusting invention.
Judy & Punch (2019)
Even by feminist standards
To make a film where every single male character is bad or very weak is really quite something. I am sick of this genre and it's about time blokes start to question them.
The point that seems to be missed is that trotting out this style of movie is insulting to many blokes and doesn't bring them with you - More turns them off.
Unbelievable (2019)
Really strange for a guy to watch
So it is well written and acted but it's just this whole agenda thing is so tiring to watch. If you are a guy and emotionally intelligent, it's a little insulting.
