Riding in Cars with Boys (2001)
Average Movie But Exceptional Acting From Barrymore, Murphy, Zahn
I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. A true story presented in an easy and humorous way. Lots of funny moments along with some emotional points. 5 / 10 . Not a very important movie to talk about.
The important point is, Three main characters are wonderfully played by Barrymore, Murphy and Zahn. This is a great step for Ms. Barrymore. She has this God-given charm few people have. She makes even the most terrible movie bearable solely with her appearance. In this movie she also shows that she is a first class actress. Unfortunately she didn't have much chance to show her talent in acting before, mostly because producers (or maybe herself too) just wanted to use her charm and box office potential not acting talent. I hope this movie will be a first and we'll see her in more pictures like this where she can show she is a complete actress, not just another beautiful Hollywood chick. I know she is gorgeous and stuff, but the girl can act! Who knows? She may even get an Oscar soon (if she wants to get one of course!!)
Brittany Murphy and Steve Zahn are very talented actors. They can play every kind of role easily and successfully. But that's it. They just don't have what Drew Barrymore has. Few people have it anyway...

Great Start for 2nd Season!
I didn't watch this show last year. Not even for a few minutes. I had heard mixed reviews about it and I know that it didn't have good ratings. When I heard that it will return for a new season and new plot, I decided to give it a chance. The season premiere which aired yesterday was really impressive. It had the taste of high budget blockbuster action movies. I really enjoyed it. I was like i can't wait for the next episode. I don't know if last season's episodes were that good or even better, but if they were, it's really bad it had bad ratings because this episode deserves to be at least top ten in ratings. The show is innovative in many aspects. First of all it has an African American president. I don't remember seeing that in any movie or TV show. Also the idea that all each episode is 1 hour of 24 hours is really original though it has a big downside. All episodes are "to be continued", so if you miss an episode you are likely to lose interest on the series which is bad for ratings. But come on people! Everybody has a VCR with a timer. Record it and watch it later! Because this show deserves to be watched.
To sum up, this is one of the best TV shows I've ever seen. It has perfect drama and action elements. It might not have much chance in ratings in a world where stupid shows like Friends top the charts. This show needs dedicated and somewhat "above average" audience but i think it's worth dedication.
Get Carter (2000)
Good directing, excellent story, Sly at his best! Don't miss it!
This movie is good. Its story may seem like an ordinary action movie, but it's more than that. I think it's a remake of a 70's film of the same name. It has something from 70's in it. Especially in car chasing sequences which are, in my opinion, excellent.
The movie is about a tough 'bodyguard' Jack Carter(Sylvester Stallone) working in Las Vegas who comes back to his hometown for his brother's funeral who left his wife and teenage daughter behind. The cause of his death seems to be a drunkdriving situation but Sly thinks it's not that simple.
He hasn't seen his brother for 5 years and feels responsible for his death. He has done mistakes in the past and wants to make a new beginning. Deciding to stay in a hotel for the weekend, he fights both with his conscience and people who killed his brother. During these two days he knows his niece Doreen (Rachael Leigh Cook) better and they develop some kind of a father-daughter relationship. Cook acts quite well and gives clues for future successes.
Sly is one of my favorites and he is superb in this movie. With both "Copland" and "Get Carter", I think he proved that he can play in dramas as well as action.
If you wanna see a good movie with good directing and some sense of 70's, see it!
