Sexy Beast Meets Lock Stock Meets Scum
11 February 2024
What happens when you take the movie Sexy Beast and inject it with the humour of Lock Stock and the violence of Scum, you get Sexy Beast the TV series, it's an absolute rip roar of a show, story is on point, location is on point and the cast is absolutely on point!

Emun Elliott's performance as Don Logan is as scary as ever and James McArdle is literally channelling Ray Winstone, a stellar performance considering the size of the shoes he's filling, the rest of the cast are fantastic as well, Sarah Greene as Deedee has really brought another dimension to her character and Stephen Moyer is perfect as Teddy Bass not to mention the new addition with Tamsin Greig as Don's sister, I never thought there could be a character more menacing than Don but the apple does not fall far from the tree here.

This is one of those shows that's clearly flying under the radar and I'm not sure what's going on with the ratings but it's an easy 8 out 10 for me, well worth a watch!

The Beekeeper (2024)

Turn your brain off at the door
2 February 2024
The Beekeeper is the equivalent of watching Jason Statham put the hurt on a bunch of cartoon characters, if you want any sort of realism forget it you're not going to get it here but despite that fact it's still an entertaining flick with some good fighting and action sequences just don't expect anything that resembles reality, this is almost super hero territory where one man takes down all the evils of the world.

The biggest disappointment was the complete waste of Jeremy Irons but I'm sure he did the best he could with the script he was given, it's as if they have twelve year olds writing these films and don't get me started on Emmy Raver-Lampman, if that's how an FBI agent acts then god help us all, she gave the most cringey performance I have seen in a long time, I found myself wanting to fast forward every scene she was in, honestly I would have preferred if they'd focused the entire film on Statham dishing out the pain as really that's the only thing that's good here.

Shrinking (2023– )

Too Easy
14 August 2023
I recently finished Lucky Hank and for the most part I enjoyed it so I figured Shrinking would be a good show to follow but after watching the first two episode this show feels hollow, the comedy is cringe at best and the music is a little too on the nose here. This is the definition of what I call a background show, something that you can tune out too, it's not terrible, Harrison Ford is great and I think the writers missed a big opportunity not basing the show around his character as it would have been a lot more interesting as all the other characters are just way too upbeat and when you consider this shows subject matter it takes from the realism and it's all just too easy.

No Substance
24 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So much potential wasted, after watching The Animatrix I honestly think a Matrix film without Neo and Trinity would have been better than this rubbish. Trinity and Neo are like cartoon characters now, superman and superwoman flying around on a mission to save humanity, give me a break. The action scenes where ok but nothing to write home about, I don't know why they just didn't get the John Wick crew to choreograph the fight scenes as they were lacklustre at best. The CGI was decent and up to its usual standard and overall, this movie was ok but to be brutally honest ok isn't good enough especially after this length of time, it's all visually very nice but there's just no substance.

Firestarter got a sequel
7 February 2021
Thoroughly enjoyed this film, slow start but the payoff was well worth it, great cast especially Lexy Kolker who gave a stellar performance that reminded me of Drew Barrymore's Firestarter, Seriously if you love Sci-Fi this film is an absolute gem!

Cartoonish
18 April 2019
Re watching this tonight I find myself wondering how it has such a high rating, the performances are like cartoons, it has no grounding in reality whatsoever, honestly don't know what people where thinking when this was first released and when you look at Deniros films, Deerhunter, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Good Fellas, Casino, Heat, I feel like he was completely wasted in this movie, it's only redeemable qualities are the sets the costumes and the violence which Brian De Palmer excels at, but yeah as far as realism goes this film is a huge disappointment and in my opinion is highly overrated.

Low Vibrations

Seriously had to turn this off, I love Patrica Arquette, True Romance is one of my all time favourite movies and her recent work on Escape From Dannemora was superb but after watching 30 minutes of this I couldn't take it, it's so painful to watch i'd honestly prefer rewatching Eraserhead than sitting through one episode of this, which is a real shame as I'm a huge fan of Chloë Sevigny as well and I was really looking forward to watching this but it's just so alien and vapid I couldn't stomach it.
