Not nearly as good as it could have been!
24 February 2001
From the trailer I thought this movie would be really funny! Unfortunately it isn't as outrageous as they would have had you believe. "The Replacements" can't really decide if it wants to go for the lighthearted, fun humor the trailer promised or gross-out shtick. Keanu's performance stinks, but what else would you expect from the man?

Scary Movie (2000)
1/10
Cheap, low grade humor
22 January 2001
I was so disappointed by this movie! The trailer looked absolutely hilarious, but it turns out that that was only because the preview was packed with the thirty seconds of funny moments in this movie. It started out promising enough, with Carmen Electra's campy turn as the clueless opening-scene victim, but immediately after went totally downhill. Thereafter "Scary Movie" only tries to get laughs through mindless shock value. Someone gets impaled with a penis, ejaculation and erection gags occur at least once every other scene, and twice we're supposed to laugh at how callous and uncaring people are as they watch and actively enjoy people getting stabbed repeatedly. I like horror movies, and I do enjoy comedies. But when a movie relies solely on shock value it loses credibility. It's easy to make people laugh at stupid jokes like these. Shock value for entertainment fades over time, how often can you laugh at something that was only funny because it caught you off guard? Not long, and I for one look forward to the day when movies like this are long gone.

Hollow Man (2000)
3/10
An all-around awful movie experience
16 January 2001
"The Hollow Man" features bad acting, a bad script, and annoying characters supposed to be made interesting by good special effects and lame cat-and-mouse chase scenes. And was Kevin Bacon's f/x penis really necessary? I know the man has an odd obsession with nudity, but this is just ridiculous!

The Mummy (1999)

Fun, fast and funny

If you liked Indiana Jones, you will definitely love this. It has adventure, romance, action and humor. Don't expect Oscar material and you'll be fine. This is excellent b-movie entertainment. Definitely worth seeing!

Painfully bad
16 January 2001
Where to begin? The acting is worse than awful from each performer; George Clooney obviously wants to be somewhere else, Chris O'Donnel only succeeds in annoying you, Ah-nuld is his usual bad self - but has the added humiliation of constantly delivering one-liners like "You're not putting me in the cooler!", Uma Thurman misfires her attempt at a high-camp sultry vixen, and Alicia Silverstone mesmerizes with her 24-7 attempt at being cute (which fails miserably, so you're left feeling sorry for her). The scenery is just ridiculous (big, 4,000 foot high statues appear at random along highways that weave around skyscrapers of equal height). I would say that I am convinced that the director got his script by chaining a drugged monkey to a typewriter, but even a drugged primate couldn't possibly be dumb enough to have written this. Their is a constant barrage of one-liners that are mind-numbingly bad, and whoever did write this forgot to follow up on their own lame subplots. What happens to Elle MacPherson's character? She is last seen practically proposing to Bruce Wayne, leaving him with the ultimatum marry me or leave me, forty five minutes in to the movie. What happens? We'll never know. No mention of her existence is made after that, even though Bruce promised to get back to her. I could go on and on (and on!) about how bad this movie is, but it's too annoying. Just please spare yourself the time and agony. Don't see this movie.

Moonstruck (1987)
10/10
Simply wonderful

"Moonstruck" is my favorite movie of all time. It has everything: humor, romance, an amazing script, splendid acting, characters you love, and even the New York setting manages to be charming (though I guess it helps if you've lived around the city). I would highly recommend this movie to anyone.
