The Twilight Zone (2019)
Absolute must watch 10 for Rod Serling
My mother did not want me to watch this show but of course I was obsessed with it at my age of 7. I looked for it at the video store (decades later, still excellent) but they had nothing. (ditto my other favorite show: the Jeremy Piven and Paula Marshall CUPID which was cancelled by some bonehead ABC exec) Now! A local TV outlet is now running these 4 times per week which I save on the PVR. So quality lasts! Despite incompetent TV execs and there are many, like the NBC guy who was braindead on the Seinfeld Chinese Resto episode, a classic. Despite imperfections, Serling deserves major applaud for creating the Zone!
Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000)
gotta watch
Curb is a notch below Seinfeld. I bought the Seinfeld DVDs. All seasons of Curb were there at the video store but I cannot pay money for this. A channel on my service puts up one episode per week which I PVR. Always good and I save and I will likely view again. This season is the last and Curb will be missed. My favorite comedian Richard Lewis recently passed which feels sad although he did well to make it to age 76. If I could speak with Larry, my only critique would be that every script seems too-much-the-same i.e. 'worlds-collide' and Larry the liar-weasel plays over-the-top upset victim...
Veep (2012)
I Hate the Writers
The Seinfeld writers had the big white-board where they were trying to balance the 4-leads. I would bet that the VEEP writers have a similar board. For what? Their aim on this board seems to be to write down every physical body part (on one side) & on the other side: every curse-word-obscenity possible. Then match-up etc. Would Tolstoy respect this highly paid writing concept? HBO owners obviously approve. I only watch this show because of the Seinfeldian connections. I PVR-it (to fast-forward through the ads) then watch once (experiencing discomfort) then delete. Whereas I similarily follow Curb however SAVE.
The Taxi Driver (1954)
The Amazing Joan Edward, music composer
I stumbled across this on cable at 4am & am flabbergasted by the excellent music underscore composing played by a top notch group of musicians, amazing, in the year 1954. I wish that I could learn more about the credited composer, Joan Edward...
Star Trek Beyond (2016)
Visionless Project
I suffered through this on TV so fortunately no ticket expense & during the commercials ran to the fridge for more beer to sedate myself for this arduous & useless journey. I read the reviews by those who gave it a 1 & agree. I gave it a 2 because Zoe was enjoyable to watch & the underscore composer was not as dreadful as the video game guy hired in the first film by JJabrams who knows nothing about music.
Run Buddy Run (1966)
Total Comedy Genius
When this excellent production was cancelled after a brief run, I was disappointed and angry. And yet another example of a bad-executive-decision. Jack Sheldon told this joke on a Bob Hope gig I was on: 'I wish Glenn Miller would have lived and his music would have died !' The whole band cracked up. Jack was funny, and so was this show, and it should have continued.
Seinfeld (1989)
The Chinese Restaurant Episode
This episode is in Season 2, on disc 3 of the DVD set. JasonA termed it a 'great episode' which you can view on Inside Look on this DVD along with similarly positive comments by JuliaMichaelLarryJerry. At the 1-minute mark of Inside Look, you can see the President of NBC, Warren Littlefield, stating that he 'didn't get it.' This is why I ceased watching TV altogether, due to the incompetence of Execs.
Cupid (1998)
Why are highly paid TV execs incompetent ?
The exec who cancelled this show will be remembered forever in Bonehead Management History along with the guy who would not renew original Trek for a 4th season. How and why did they get jobs ? Cupid was excellent work. Can they produce a DVD set for us at least, as a consolation ? I have ignored ABC-TV completely now for 20 years because of their mistake in killing this wonderful production.
