The Blood of Heroes (1989)
I can't understand all the bad reviews...
I saw this movie when I was very little...and liked it a LOT. Then I saw it again after many years...and still LOVED it. Now that I'm much older (well, not THAT much) I watched it again ... it gets better with every viewing!
I don't know... It's simple and linear, yes, but it's a story well played and well told. I actually LIKE the Game they play, I enjoy the fights and all the Honor-thing that lies behind them.
And no...how can someone talk about gore-fest or orgy of violence? I've seen MUCH worse in in movies that the public liked more (for apparently no good reason...they were utter crap!).
This movie is very nice, and I really can't understand why it is so underrated and (reading some reviews) almost hated o_O' Watching this movie may not be an enlightening experience in your life, but it will quite an enjoyable and entertaining one!
Sweet Insanity (2006)
Yet another stupid movie...
No Spoilers...
This is just another useless movie in the "teen massacre" category. There is absolutely NO plot. The story happens completely "bacause I say so"...there is no cause nor reason to the events in the movie; even the sad attempt to "suggest" an old trauma using some confused flashbacks is of no real use if you want to find a MEANING in this plot.
The characters are just the same old cliché-students "the Hot, the Slut and the Moron between" with a supporting cast of rich-but-punk friends. Oh...and a totally unrelated Spooky-Neighbor!
Not to mention that the "twist" of this story becomes quite obvious after the first 30 seconds of the movie...this "special" idea is being totally ABUSED in recent movies, so it doesn't sort any effect unless the movie is made with a bit of skill...which this movie is NOT :P
The only reason I watched through the whole film is because the girls are damn HOT...and there are LOTS of 'em! All this beautiful almost-25-years old girls pretending to be innocent seventeen students. Yummy. Yes...THAT is the only positive thing in the whole movie...oh, and the poster too! The poster picture is cool...too bad it is UNRELATED to the movie, save perhaps the last 15 seconds :P
Cyber Wars (2004)
Not bad at all ... give us more!
Despite all the bad comments, this movie is rather enjoyable. True, the acting is not always at its best...but other than that it is a solid classical cyberpunk movie that looks as a professional level job...not the amateurish home-made thing that someone described!
It's not a world shaking work of art, but it accomplished the job of entertaining the viewer and is much better then some Hollywood-crap we see this days.
I rate it a 6 for the movie "value" ... a 7 because it shows a good technical work ... and a 8 because we should get more of this stuff, it deserves support.
Silent Hill (2006)
Pure Love
** I don't think I'm giving spoilers...but let's rather be safe than sorry ;) **
I have to defend this movie from those who, unexplainedly to me, seem to "hate" it so viscerally. My comment on the movie is excellent, I loved it. And the friends that have seen it with me (and they have never played the SH games) liked it very much too.
Now, my impressions: The director is a fan on the game, and this is really felt in all the little details he carefully places through all the movie. It is NOT a 1:1 copy of the games though...it is heavily based on the story of SH1, and it also steals some cool ideas from SH2 (like PyramidHead)...but it's a completely unrelated story. Many character names, for example, are the same as the game...but the roles and identities in the movie are all different.
The story, as in the original game, is very simple and straight once you get to the end of it. A religious cult...a missing child...tragedies from the past... It's not so complicated to figure out even though, just like in the game, there are many twists and details that make it all so dark and fascinating. As they say: The important thing is not "the destination"...but the "journey" itself.
Technically... All the settings are very atmospheric, the characters do their job very well and the action is well dosed. But there are moments, I have to admit, when the plot is developed somehow "artificially". Rose is supposed to be lost and confused...she ACTS as she is lost and confused...but sometimes she goes here and there as if she had a map telling here exactly what to do. Well...I say: whatever! It's a great movie and little bugs like those are not serious enough to earn it a bad rating!
The ending is also awesome. I expected something "clear" and definitive (even if hinting to a sequel)...but the director chose one more time to be true to the spirit of the game. Instead of the multiple endings of the game, impossible to translate into a movie, the story was left somehow "suspended". First of all, I liked it "as is" because it transmits an infinite sense of sadness, so true to the game. Secondly, there are different hints and allusions that can lead to very different interpretations...thus somehow recreating the "multiple ending" effect.
An excellent movie :)
