Its seems that most of the heavy critics of this movie have a problem with Christianity anyway and what in the world does the Bush Administration have to do with it? Basically one should realize that if its a "end time" Christian movie--expect bible quotes, prayer and good natured characters. I think the movie could stand improvement in its writing. Some of the attempts in humor was weak and I just have problems in attempts to create popular one-liners. Its one of those movies where you comment on how you would re-write that scene while its occurring. The mind control Nazi like soldiers are getting old also.

On a funny side, why would I want a Porche if it cant out run an old police car on straight roads? The driver says thats OK--we'll out run em on the hair pin curves. Thats why you need 150+ on the speedometer-- Folks just lighten up, have fun watching. If you don't like Christians and the their words "burn your very soul", don't watch Christian movies (duh) just as I don't watch movies with a gay theme because I don't approve of the lifestyle.

ups and downs

Warning: Spoilers
I suppose the writer was trying funny in a eerie way. This is one of those movies that had a good story line but you have to get through all the "thats so stupid" scenes. This starts right away with the unnecessary bickering and cussing between the family members (glad to see the foul mouth son eliminated early). Next, your driving down a dark road and you're lost--a psycho woman pops out of nowhere so you stop and let her in your vehicle? Wait! Not only do you let the strange woman into your vehicle, you put your daughter out onto the dark deserted road alone to make space for her. An emergency stop at the cabin looking for help and the son goes into the woods to masturbate? Sorry, sometimes these movies seem to be written by college kids for college kids. Eliminate the stupid unnecessary inputs and you have a pretty good horror movie. Humor just doesn't mix with some horror plots. Eddie Murphy in a haunted house yes--family members being mutilated--no.

I can become a fan.

A good program with nice special effects and a pretty good story line. I wanted to say how clean it was--no swearing or sex scenes but I see in the previews that the next episode will have light sexual scenes--too bad. I guess todays writers cant stay focused. I supposed I should be use to it by now but of course the program had the usual dose of men are dumb, women are in your face smart, thick headed military and the always favorite with todays crowd--dads are bad. The lead character even gets lectured by his teenage daughter. I will watch the series for the sci fi and twists. It can be fun but I hope it at least stays clean.

Warning: Spoilers
I suppose if you have nothing good to watch and you want a "scary movie" to get you mind off things, this will fit. Pretty good scary moments and the expected gore. It also has the moments that make no sense--was the gun locked in the refrig? Why? Victims would noticeably place themselves in positions where you know the beast could grab hold of them. The shed scene is obvious when the guy with the ax backs away from his female companion (why didn't he stay with her??) and of course, the beast reaches through the wall and pulls him through--kinda telegraphed. Pretty much through the movie there was a lot of "why's and how come's". It also has the usual unnecessary sex scene and conflict between saving the beast or killing it.

Of course its a typical 90's--00's horror movie portraying the men as weak or idiots and the macho women having to take control because the men--are idiots. That is unless the woman is blond--two were the stupid ones in this movie. Interesting the bar fight scene where the cop is protected by the woman with a gun--yeah, never saw that on COPS before.

I guess we will have these types poorly written horror flicks for awhile until the next generation of writers are of age.

Aside from pc--its alright

Many writers of the modern Biblical movies take many liberties. In this one it portrayed the Apostles as as very flawed, angry, jealous but the women as pillars of compassion and common sense. In this one I simply became tired of Dinah's role--especially when the Bible does not portray this. Yes I know that incidences have to be written in for drama or effect but I'm not comfortable with attempts to be politically correct by changing the "character" of the characters. I recall a movie of Jesus which had his mother Mary instructing Jesus to be baptized by John the Baptist. I'm sorry but leave PC for the sitcoms and R rated movies.

Pretty good to me!

I think too many of us read so much into a movie or forget the audience and passions of the time. Yes this was an American propaganda movie--we need more of that today! There are only a few two hour-plus movies I can tolerate and this is one of them. And for those that feel there are too many stars in this film, that is the reason its easy and fun to follow for three hours. It reminds me in that way of Tombstone--each star brought his own personality to the party--thus making it fun to watch. I actually commend the producers /directors ability to bring all these guys together--and I'm sure the stars had fun doing it also.

It lacked the blood and gore of Saving Private Ryan but then again look at the original audience and era. Does a movie have to have gore and sex to be accepted today as good?

I cant say what is a favorite part but I uniquely enjoyed the look of jubilation on the French farmers face when the fleet began bombing the shore. Here comes the calvary---thats what America's all about!

Ehh
28 May 2006
I read the reviews during opening credits and decided I want to see just how bad a movie could be. I have to admit---I did some channel surfing during many parts. The acting was thin and it had the macho woman/emotional man bits as with a lot of made for TV movies these days. I have to say, its not the worst I've seen and others that could come close are shown right here on the SCi Fi channel. I liked the hard nosed commander though. I kept thinking that if I made a movie, I could do so much with his character.

Maybe an OK movie for a bunch of young teens during a sleep over or if you have a serious case of insomnia at 3am. Other than that, watch one of those old B&W Sci Fi's with the space ship hanging from a string

Fun

I think some here in their praise of the character forget what harm pimps actually do to the black community. I enjoyed the movie but not because I looked at Priest as a hero. Nice to flash back tot he music, styles and "lingo" of my teen years. Question--The movie had real drug dealers in it (and his car). It glorified or made heroes of the drug dealer. It made the cops the enemy. Drug use common and money important. Today the movies have real gang members (Ice T). The gangster character is portrayed a hero. The cops are really corrupt and the bad guys are just surviving--and money is most important. If the previous movies (Superfly) exploit blacks--then what are todays thug movies? Nothing has changed except the clothes and slang.

Humorous and interesting
25 May 2006
First I have to step up on my soapbox. We are a funny society. We complain that minorities don't get roles as whites actors do and when they do--we call it exploitation of that minority and most of what we notice or comment on is the issue of race of the characters. I hope to live another 50 years to hear complaints of todays Black thug movies and how Hollywood tricked or forced minorities into the roles.

Now about the movie. I'm watching it now for the first time since it first came out in71. Then I was a teen and watched it only to be cool and fit in. I Didn't really understand or care to understand the plot.

The plot line is still pretty good--can still work today. The lines are corny and today--just doesn't click. Example is early in the movie the detective ask Shaft where he was going, "Im gonna go get laid-where are you going man? Ha Ha Ha". I guess that was a smart Alic stab in the 70's. I enjoyed seeing the "fancy apartment layout". A small reel to reel tape player with record albums stacked nearby brought back memories.

Just enjoy it for he action, funny lingo and let the social implications go---save it for todays street thug mo' money movies.

The best of its kind
20 May 2006
Far better than American shows of the same type (Saturday Night Live)which spend more time showing political leanings than just being funny. L Britain is very funny--a bit more male kissing than I care to see--but the skits are very well done. As odd as it may seem, the funniest skit to me is the shortest, the politician holding the press conference in front of his home explaining the latest misunderstood sex scandal. The fat jealous women is funny although it can cross the sexual line a bit. The only gay in town skit is just plain funny along with the racist neighbor lady.(I'm trying to fill 10 lines) As good as it is--it ain't The Benny Hill Show though---sorry

One of the best
13 May 2006
In my opinion this is one of my top 5 movies of all time--definitely the best western. How do I know--because when I come across it while channel surfing, I have to stop and watch--after all these years! Its clean (no sexual acts), fast moving and colorful. Its a movie were each character has a unique personality and appearance thus you can separate who is who. Which is my favorite character?? How can you pick one. Each was entertaining in his own way. I can also excusing the guns that never empty or historical inaccuracies. I should also add that this is a man's movie--no time wasted on the typical male bashing by macho women. The men were men and women were women.

Not as good as most
11 May 2006
The story was choppy but this is understood because of time constraints and to keep it moving. The emotion seemed to be misplaced--none when needed, too much at other times. The acting was a bit stiff. Had the feel of a stage play. Christ seemed to stare into infinity a bit much and some of the others speech overs reminded me of a Japanese monster movie (Paul especially). As with most movies with a female protagonist there is the occasional male bashing and I'm sorry but was Mary nearby,in the room or around the corner of every major event in Christ's life? Maybe I'm just spoiled by "The Greatest Story Ever Told" version. ..... .....

OK-But not Excalibur!
23 April 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Take a band of marines with a mission to rescue citizens at an embassy--difference is these are on horses and their called Knights. I however, am spoiled by Excalibur and The Lord of the Rings. I like my knights in armor, dripping with noble arrogance and a love of God and country. Give me the fantasy, magic and great heroics. These knights were more like a band of rogue soldiers forced to do whats right. Too many of you read too much into a story that is supposed to be an escape. When has Hollywood ever been "totally historically accurate"? Sit back and enjoy the battles and intrigue. Of course there was the occasional interjection Hollywoods view of how society should be and of course--its usually slap at the church and religion.
