The Lake House (2006)
It will make you think
First I am a huge fan of Sandra Bullock. Second I also am a fan of Keanu Reeves. The both of them in Speed was delightful. The Lake House is a film where you have to pay attention. The best of it is the twists and turns it takes throughout the whole movie. If your a film goer and liked or loved the movie the Sixth Sense---Then you will surely like this one. I like being teased and made to think while I watch a movie. I could not guess the ending, nor could I guess another part of the movie which totally shook me. When I did see it, It made sense and, much to my ire,I did not figure this one out, just like I never figured out the Sixth Sense. So watch it and have everything on the table your going to need to watch a movie and take your bathroom break before it begins. You will like it. We both did. It will end up in my film library.
The Train (1964)
Get set for a great War and Train Film
If your a WW2 buff and a railroad buff. Then sit back and watch. This movie has both. What most trailers don't tell you is, that the French railway took a vast interest in this movie. So much so that all the accidents, wrecks, action etc. etc. on or about the trains are real. Nothing was faked. To top it off this movie as you can see was made in 1964 and in black and white. I gave this movie a 10 for all the mentioned reasons. If you are either of the 2 buffs mentioned earlier then this is a must see movie. Burt Lancaster gives a great preformance as well as the french and german actors. There is one german actor of note in this movie and if your a war buff, you will recognize him right off. He also starred in the Longest Day, as well as Von Ryans Express, another train-war movie. So sit back and enjoy the ride.
The Gallant Hours (1960)
Great War Film
The Gallant Hours, is a war film, and Biography of Adm. William Halsey. The narration during the filming gives this movie, style. It takes you through the decision making process of Battles. It covers the morale issue, which was at its lowest. Most of all I was shocked at how much guessing and playing hunches, went into any campaign in the Pacific, plus, most of all the amount of luck we had. If you are a WW II fan this movie is and shoud be top on your list. We all like the action of all the war movies. This one takes you behind the scenes of leaders, and one in particular.
Crusader Rabbit (1950)
Back in Time
If you grew up in the 50's and were close enough to a big city, like I was in New York, then you were treated to Saturday morning cartoons. As a Baby Boomer, I watched Crusader Rabbit on WNBC Channel 4 From NYC. It was the first Cartoon on Saturday Morning. The theme to this show was found on AudioGalaxy. They were fun in black and white whith Crusader Rabbit and Rags the Tiger. Jay Ward gave us many fine Cartoons that were remembered by many, but Crusader Rabbit was one of his first and best. I agrre with the other writer that it would be nice to have them on DVD or even tape. Kids today don't have what we had in the way of good wholesome cartoons.
Twister (1996)
A Graphics Extravaganza
Welcome to 1996 and Hollywood with all its latest in graphics. Twister is a movie worth its weight in high speed winds as we follow the trials of a group of Storm Chasers. The premise of the feature is, to find out what goes on inside the Tornado. The United States being the only place in the world that has more Tornado's than anywhere else. The situations they get themselves into, keeps you rivited to your seat. The music score tells you of the anticipated coming of the finger of God,"The most destructive tornado there is". The realism of the destruction of tornado's is captured in Twister. Great acting jobs by Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Jami Gertz. For those of you who don't live in or near Tornado alley, and have never seen one in action, then this your ticket to the big one. Via a graphics extravaganza. I managed to catch 2 bloopers which did not affect the film at all. So sit back, strap yourself down and hang on for a great ride.
