Yes, the acting is bad by everybody involved, but not bad enough for Razzie Award considerations. But everybody in this movie proves to be capable action stars. Yes, even the cute, lovely, petite and sweet Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Jennifer Love Hewitt plays an inexperienced rookie secret agent named Del Blaine, real name Delilah Blaine. Agent Blaine mostly does forensic work but wants to work on the street fighting crime. Jackie Chan plays Jimmy Tong, a secret agent that does a lot of undercover work as professional drivers, such as cab driver and chauffeur.
When Agent Tong assigned to protect a man named Clark Devlin, he is injured and nearly killed in assassination attempt. After that, Agent Tong goes on assignment with Agent Blaine to find the assailants responsible for the assassination attempt. Those assailants may or may not be responsible for the death of a fellow secret agent.
Del Blaine is basically a female Martin Riggs, the character Clayne Crawford and Mel Gibson played in the Lethal Weapon franchise. But minus Clayne Crawford and Mel Gibson's good acting.
Del Blaine's also a white female version of James Carter, the character Justin Hires and Chris Tucker played in the Rush Hour franchise. But minus Chris Tucker's good acting. Justin Hires poorly portrayed James Carter.
Jimmy Tong, like Jonathan Lee, the character Jackie Chan and John Foo play in the Rush Hour franchise, is basically a Chinese Roger Murtaugh. That's the character Danny Glover and Damon Wayans, Senior play in the Lethal Weapon franchise. But minus Jackie Chan's good acting in the Rush Hour franchise.
John Foo poorly portrayed Jonathan Lee. And, in The Tuxedo, Jackie Chan lacks Danny Glover and Damon Wayans, Senior's good acting in the Lethal Weapon franchise.
Fun facts: Jennifer Love Hewitt only needed a stunt double for when the character she played drove the BMW Z8. She can't drive a manual transmission to save her life and that car only came with a six speed manual transmission worldwide.
Otherwise, Jennifer Love Hewitt did all of her own stunts. Sadly, she wasn't credited for it.
In agility, the tuxedo in The Tuxedo makes for a far better Robocop suit than the actual Robocop suit. Just don't expect Robocop 1987 standards of quality. But The Tuxedo is nowhere near the disaster it's unfairly made out to be, either.
Nevertheless, this movie is highly recommended to fans of Jackie Chan, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Debi Mazar. I'm a huge fan of all three of these actors, so that hugely helps for me. Oh, this movie is better than the Robocop remake.
And it's way closer to the Lethal Weapon Franchise, Robocop 1987 and the first two Rush Hours in quality than the inferior Rush Hour 3. The gaps between The Tuxedo and the disastrous Robocop sequels are even bigger than the gap between The Tuxedo and Rush Hour 3.
