She Said (2022)
A pretty decent film
Firstly the performances in the film are good and particularly for the two journalist believable. It still is a very important story in showing how woman are treated in some work spaces. I liked the fact it pointed up the problems of NDA's, which clearly shouldn't exist. It also highlighted the problems all employees have regarding reporting unacceptable behaviour of their bosses , as it often damages more the person for doing the reporting.
It was a very worthy film, a bit slow in places. I thought it better than The Post, not as good as Spotlight or All the president's men. Still an important film and worth the watch.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
Actually quite good
I was expecting not to enjoy this but it was much better than the critics suggest. A good follow on from GB1 and 2. Story line ok, cast quite good. I have seen far worse so if you want an enjoyable couple of hours, give it a go.
The Phantom of the Open (2021)
Enjoyable but flawed
Takes a few liberties. He only ever competed in open qualifying, which is not the real open. Qualifying was never televised and still isn't . Mark Rylance is a bit un convincing as Maurice. Rest of cast great and worth watching. It's a BBC film so on television in a year or so.
Dune (2021)
Slow start to an excellent film
Pleasantly surprised with this film. First half hour is a bit dull but please stick with it. After the first half
Hour it really picks up to an excellent film. It must be forty years since I read the book, so I can't say how closely it sticks to the Novel.
The Courier (2020)
Excellent film
Really enjoyed this. Critics not fair on this one.
Ammonite (2020)
A bit disappointing
Well acted as you would imagine. The story was weak and I do believe the main character deserves a better film celebrating her life. Not sure what the lesbian sex scenes are all about really. Still it's watchable and quite enjoyable . Let's have a better film about Mary aining.
Saint Maud (2019)
Not a horror, but still pretty good
It's not a horror, but a sad film of a young woman descent into mental illness. Still well acted and thought provoking.
Behind Her Eyes (2021)
Better than some reviews suggest
Generally enjoyable. Think of it as a tail of the supernatural and you won't go far wrong
News of the World (2020)
Very good but I've seen this plot before
I really enjoyed this. Well acted and very entertaining. I might be wrong, but the basic plot is the same as the Steve martin, john candy , Trains, planes and automobiles.
Ok that's probably just me.
Do watch it's good
The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (2021)
Better than expected.
I thought this would not be very good especially after first 20 mins. However it got better and better. The ending is not quite joined up, but l thought it was a very good film. Nice plot twists
The Dig (2021)
Too long and slow, but watchable
The central performances are good. Thought the film suffers from being too long, hence making it slow. 1.30 _40 would have been fine. It also does not tell you enough about the dig and every thing surrounding it. It's not a bad film but not as good as some critics are claiming
Summerland (2020)
A very good film
Well this was a pleasant surprise. I think the Critics have got it wrong. It's a a really good british film. The performances are good. Gemma arterton goes from strength to strength as an actor.
The whole thing was touching.
Three Summers (2017)
Worth a watch
On the BBC iPlayer at present (Dec20). Enjoyable Sunday afternoon film. If you fancy something that's not too heavy then give it a go.
Industry (2020)
Gets better and is actually pretty good
First couple of episodes are the weakest. Too much drugs and sex. From episode 3 starts to get really good
Enola Holmes (2020)
Not as bad as I thought
In simple terms a very enjoyable romp of a film. Better than I expected based on reviews.
Would have thought it ok and worth the money at the cinema.
My only gripe is the portrait of Sherlock and Mycroft. I thought both were wooden and lacked character
Yes, God, Yes (2019)
Actually quite good
Ignore some of the bad user reviews. This is a short 1 hour 10 mins good be coming of age comedy. It's second theme of religious hypocrisy is gently made.
A Catholic in my family found it amusing.
So give it a go.
How to Build a Girl (2019)
Ok, but a bit disappointing
This film is watchable and quite entertaining, but is only of tv drama standard. I would have been very disappointed if I had paid at the cinema. Can't believe the Guardian gave it such a positive review. Casting a bit odd, but don't forget in little women of the four little women there was only about 0.25 was from the USA.
Days of the Bagnold Summer (2019)
A really good very British film
Just a quick review. Really enjoyed it. I can see why American critics won't like it. It is very British, really very English. Give it a go you won't regret it. Also it's basically a feel good film.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Much better than expected
Just a quick review. Having read critics review I was dubious about this film. I was really surprised how good it was, well worth a watch
Military Wives (2019)
Ok film but a bit formulaic
This is ok. More like a tv drama. Very formulaic and characters are a bit one dimensional. So a bit disappointing but quite entertaining.
Marriage Story (2019)
Good film too long
This as enjoyable as a film, though the subject matter was difficult. Worth watching but too long and slow. It's pretty much like most divorce dramas, so nothing too special. The central performances are good and watachable.
The Aeronauts (2019)
Much than I expected
I surprised my self by really enjoying this film. It is well made and exciting and a great spectacle on the big screen. Both Felicity jones and Eddie Redmain are good but basically play the parts the same as they always do (if you get my drift). It's a great story, I'm not too bothered about the change of pilot. My only gripe is that the Flight should have started in Wolverhampton and ended in Ludlow Shropshire, I m sure international audience realise there are more places in the uk than just London.
