Ta'igara: An Adventure in the Himalayas (2022)
Slow-paced, almost slice of life...but with an element of a dreamy surrealism
There's this very naive kind of slow feel to the movie that almost made me turn it off a couple of times, but I'm glad I persevered. Bear with me, and I'll tell you why.
The best actor in the movie, by far, was the tiger lol. No kidding, he/she truly stole the show! That aside, the whole production felt a little amateur... though I don't know if that's the feel they were going with. The visuals were stunning, the acting not so much. The dialogues feel a bit contrived, the characters are all 2-dimensional. The events are a bit disconnected too with not enough of filling in the holes.
That said, the tiger stole my heart, the naivity of the performance was heart-warming, the landscapes were stunning, and the portrayal of the people refreshing, so, for me, a movie worth watching.
Bharat (2019)
A refreshingly surprising brand of humor
A surprisingly decent movie (I'm obviously not a Salman fan), Bharat manages to entertain, engage and pull at the heartstrings. Not quite a Bajrangi, what I really found unexpected was the humor in the narrative and the depth of the supporting characters, most notably Vilayati, his best friend.
The only minus was the excessive sentimentality in parts, and the obvious Salman bluster 🙄...an apparently 70 year old man who bashes 5 men on bikes with ease.
But that said, I enjoyed the movie, so as far as I'm concerned, the pluses outweigh the minuses.
I dare not post this on Facebook...I wouldn't want to be mistaken for a Salman fan 😄!
