Gymkata (1985)

We need to put some respect on this movie and Kurt Thomas
1 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I came across this movie accidentally on TCM and remembered watching it spoofed on Family Guy, so decided to check it out for a good chuckle. To my surprise the movie was pretty good and while the premise was very far-fetched, it was interesting. Very impressed to see an Olympic hero take on such a role, surprisingly most of the fight scenes were realistic. One scene where Cabot is using the bar in the alley to take down the bad guys was very cool, his Gymkata even gets carried away and he takes out an innocent passerby and apologizes. I liked how the movie was serious throughout, the music was tense, there were a few surprises during the Game, and the main villain Zamir was a good antagonist. This movie and performance deserves more respect, I'm sure it was influential on future classics like Bloodsport and Equilibrium. Plus, pretty impressive to be the only man to have mastered a particular martial arts form...Gymkata!

Not funny in any way whatsoever.

This movie dragged on and on and on. It felt like 4 hours, just repeating the same inane scenes and dialogue over and over and over. Movie was depressing and boring, be kind to each other before the sun destroys the earth and human life is wiped out and forgotten forever or something. Giving it 2 stars, at least got to see Shortround again.

Painful to watch

Halfway through this episode I was checking the clock every 5 minutes, hoping it would end soon. Not entertaining in any way, stupid, pointless ending, really just a big waste of time.

Scenes Between Two Selfish People

Both characters are completely unlikable and it was a chore watching each episode. I knew there wouldn't be a payoff at the end, the entire series was just bleh. And if you can relate to this relationship, yikes!

Stupid show, stupid characters, stupid ending

Don't waste your time watching this. The beginning seems like there's potential but everything is just awful. Even if you're desperately bored during coronavirus don't do it!

The first Russian revolution

Highly recommend, great acting, great script, great music, fantastic special effects. I was fortunate enough to see this movie in the theater (twice), the standoff between the Decembrists and Nicholas I gave me chills, the movie makes you feel like you're almost there in Senate Square. Recommend reading a little about the Decembrists (at least their Wiki) before watching, will help you appreciate the odds they were up against and the sacrifice they made that much more.

This is one of my favorite X-Men releases, great performances from Sophie Turner, Michael Fassbender, and company. Great drama and action from start to finish (and not overly long like The Avengers), highly looking forward to the DVD release.
