Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration (2022)
WTF
Im currently ill in bed and stumbled across this. These are just some notes I've made whilst watching it -
What's with all the 'dance' sequences?! They just don't make any sense at all, why does she end up with a guitar/ukulele?!
Lumiere and Cogsworth with their terrible jokes. Lumiere's wig looked like it was going to fall off.
Belle was just not good, no emotion when acting, and singing all the songs like they're pop songs?
It's like watching a school play.
Why are they all miming?
Lafou was just weird. Gaston's voice, whilst it's perfect for the role, the arrogance and narcissism just isn't there in the acting.
It was mostly just showing the original film anyway.
Be our guest was underwhelming. Who cast Shania Twain as Mrs Potts?! The performance of Beauty and The Beast was just awkward.
Josh Groban, when he appears (which isn't a lot) and the lady who narrates it are the only good thing about this.
Then comes the final song which H. E. R and Josh Groban sing Beauty and The Beast. She comes down in the beautiful yellow gown. So far, so good I think to myself. As the song continues, I think, "wow, this is actually the first song that I am actually liking". Until... Belle disappears, then re-enters at the top of the staircase wearing stupid yellow 'rockstar' sunglasses and playing an electric guitar as she comes down the stairs!! I actually wanted to cry! Was totally unnecessary, but it was the cherry on top of the utter weirdness that this was!
Suffice to say, I don't feel any better after watching this.
Tom's Midnight Garden (1999)
Just dreadful!
My dad had read the book but I was more for the audiobooks at the time. I found the audiobook cassette tape in the local library and took it home. I listened to the tapes so much that they ended up warping!!
So imagine my delight when I found this film and that some of it had been filmed in the Isle of Man, about 5 minutes away from my house!
I've never been so disappointed in a film.
Tom and Hatty were just dreadful and captured none of the magic or excitement. After listening to the audiobook for many years I just don't understand how they couldn't have just gone from that to be honest - word for word, or indeed, use the same actors!
The garden was nice though!
