Not Charlotte's web
16 June 2019
Saw this thinking it was Charlotte's Web, disappointed but not a total waste of time. Why is there more than one film staring a talking pig? Why does this film have a sequel? Why am I a 20 year old dude reviewing a film about a talking pig mistaking it for another film about another talking pig? So many questions so little answers. Go watch Charlotte;s Web

The perfect example of "Re-imagining"
15 June 2019
I was so skeptical at this, so much so I almost didn't see it in the cinemas but boy am I glad I did. So many horror remakes fall flat and are an unnecessary cash grab (Which i don't doubt this also is, but it's a good one) The original is known for it's use of colours and sound so when I heard that it was all being flipped around i was thought; "Why? It's not going to add to anything" But I was so happy to see that it brings a whole new attitude to the film that accents the original film perfectly. So different yet so the same. If only the plot re-imagining was up to par with the cinematography. They understood what made the film great, which is the KEY to making a great redo.

Shot amazingly
15 June 2019
The cinematography is amazing. But not in the way that other films like blade runner are. It looks like it was shot in 1977, which in any other film would show a lack of quality if it doesn't look "modern" but my God they put so much effort into making it look like it was part of the A New Hope timeline, which I imagine would be constricting but feels so natrual, so much so that you don't even notice it but it makes it so much better. To quote Futurama. "When you've done something right people won't know you've done anything at all." It fits in with the Star Wars legacy so well while being something fresh and different so you know it's not part of the main saga. I originally hated the fact that it doesn't have the main roll and it has labels for the planets, which makes it more Star Trek than Star Wars, but on a second viewing it doe a great way of separating itself from the Saga. Only thing that brings it down is I didn't feel that emotionally attached to the characters as much as I wanted to be.

No bumblebees (Seriously)
15 June 2019
I believe the bees that were shown are American Worker Bees, I really did think they were going to show bumblebees and got excited when i saw it but they're far too long to be bumblebees. (Please someone correct me if I'm wrong and will amend my star rating) Aside from that enjoyable but predictable, bumblebee was a classic "R2-D2" nonspeaking but cute.

Peter Rabbit (2018)

Up and down like a rabbity roller-coaster
15 June 2019
As a 20 year old guy, I get that I'm not the target audience for this film. However, i grew up with Peter Rabbit and love Domhnall Gleeson and Daisy Ridley so I was excited to see this. It was clear from the start that the jokes, to put it bluntly, sucked. When I did laugh it was mainly at how stupid it was, and not in an absurdist comedy kind of stupid but a "What the what is this doing in here?" The jokes seem to have been written before the film was written, so some of them seemed out of place and didn't land. As for the controversial "Blackberry Joke" It was just out of place and seemed to be jammed in because the writers thought it was funny, not thinking that audiences might have enjoyed it, not even the cinema full of both kids and parents who laughed at the other jokes found it funny. I don't think it was super inappropriate but it was unnecessary and didn't add anything. I loved every character aside from James Cordon was a terrible choice to play Peter, he was so out of place and distracting however I can't blame him for this as the whole character of Peter seemed also out of place and distracting. As a childhood lover of Peter Rabbit I remembered him very differently and i constantly found myself saying "Peter wouldn't do that" If it was a imagining that would be fine but they kept all the other characters so meek and mild which made him stick out like a sore thumb. Gleeson and Byrne were amazing as always, Gleeson brings such a special thing to his characters and really made him his own. The animation was amazing, had me tuning out what the characters were saying and just appreciating that. Overall a very mixed bag, which is why I'm giving it a middling star rating, when i try and rate it low like i want, i think "But there were a lot of redeemable features" but when i rate it higher i think "But It was written so badly!" So this is the only way to ease my mind. 5/10

Great

Fantastic accompaniment to Inside Llewellyn David, one star knocked off because the DVD doesn't show "Please Mr Kennedy" even though it was recorded, shame. Brilliant if you want to broaden your musical horizons folk wise
