Lost: Ab Aeterno (2010)
Best Episode of the Final Season So Far (SPOILERS)
We finally learn the secrets behind Lost's most mysterious character, Richard Alpert. Nestor Carbonell is fantastic, speaking mostly Spanish throughout the entire episode. We finally see his personal back-story, involving his wife Isabella and his enslavement, and also two very important questions are answered: How does Richard never age and what is his connection to Jacob? Even more interesting is how we see more into the rivalry between Jacob and The Man in Black. Also, we finally learn what brought The Black Rock to the Island (if you haven't figured it out yet) and what destroyed the Egyptian Statue. It reaches a bit of a slow point about halfway through when Richard is chained inside of the ship, alone, for about fifteen minutes of the episode's run-time but otherwise this is the moment that Lost fans have been waiting for. Especially in a fairly lackluster season, this is Lost at its finest.
Puppet Master III: Toulon's Revenge (1991)
Nazis vs. Puppets. Can't go wrong.
This is the very best movie in the whole series...and it's still a total pile. I love these movies for the puppets themselves (Blade, Six-Shooter, Torch, etc) and this movie in particular gives you the lovable team of misfits killing Nazis during WWII. Andre' Toulon's wife is murdered by a SS officer for some reason, so he uses his creations to get revenge...hence the title. This movie still sucks but is very fun. Again, cool puppets kill Nazis. As a bonus, this third entry in the series introduces the first appearance of the gunslinging puppet Six-Shooter, which doesn't make sense because this takes place during WWII and the previous, Six-Shooterless two movies take place in "present time." But whatever. What makes this movie stand out above the rest is that the cast, most of all Toulon himself and the main villain, seem to be actually trying to make their characters cool. The lead Nazi is an interesting enough villain for a cheap horror movie and he has a small bit of charisma to keep him going. Toulon himself...at least has an interesting look and voice. The story seems to have a much better construction than any of the other titles. (By the way, do NOT watch "Retro Puppet Master." You will hate yourself for it.) So, this is my favorite. Enjoy.
Ghost Rider (2007)
Watch for visual amazement....nothing else.
If you are looking for an emotional, in depth story about a tortured hero who must search within himself....stay far away from this one. Read a bible or something. You're not wanted here.
However....
If you are looking for constant, not stop Hellfire spewing, Demon cycle riding, ridiculously devilish style and wow....then come on in and enjoy.
The story is definitely a wonderful Ghost Rider "Comic" story. Everything in this movie fits well into the comic books....obviously, a direct adaptation of the comic doesn't work well on the screen. However, like a comic book, a true fan (such as myself) gives the storyline the boot and just has a good time.
I loved this movie. The dialog was god awful and cliché'. The story was cool but had no character development what so ever. Well, not quite true...(spoiler)...the Love Interest (Eva Mendes) couldn't make up her freakin mind whether she loved Blaze (Nic Cage) or not. There is a lot of constant, flipping back and forth. I loved Mark Steven Johnson's "Daredevil" but there is a definitely lack of depth to this movie.
But who cares?
There is only one reason anybody really wants to see a "Ghost Rider" movie.
To see Ghost Rider.
And you get plenty of him. The story jumps right into Blaze making a deal with the Devil (Peter Fonda, who's having a good time with this role) and before too long he's the riding, bounty hunter from Hell. And he's fighting demons.
Which is all I wanted to see.
My biggest problem involved Caretaker (Same Elliot.) (SPOILER)
I knocked off two stars because of this...
The coolest moment is where the Western Ghost Rider and modern Ghost Rider are tearing up the desert to go defeat Black Heart. I was waiting for this moment forever!!!! A Demon Gunsliner, about to kick some Devil tucus. And guess what happens?
Johnson ruins the moment by having Caretaker take off and let Blaze do all the work. His whole point was just to lead Ghost Rider to the final battle. He just rides off and is never see again....
Such a let down...
But the movie still rules overall.
Just remember...
Ghost Rider, riding from cops and doing a lot of cool, Demon s#@#@t.
That's all that matters.
