Hanukkah on Rye (2022)
You've Got Mail!
Very reminiscent of the movie "You've Got Mail" with the letter writing and competing businesses! I loved that movie and really enjoyed this one. I am not Jewish so can't speak to the authenticity of the traditions, but this movie was centered around family and love...and aren't those the most important things, especially during the holidays but also year round?
I really liked both the lead actors and thought they had great chemistry. The doorman was great! And the bubbies! They were both awesome! Without giving anything away...I enjoyed the whole matchmaker story line, and especially the twist at the end!
Made me want to go back to visit New York!
Butlers in Love (2022)
Ridiculous to boring
I don't usually review Hallmark movies, but I was looking forward to this one because of Maxwell Caufield. I'm sorry to say this on was a disappointment.
The first half was just ridiculous with all the silliness and careless mistakes being made by Emma...especially since she'd supposedly prepared for the butler training for years. Then add to that the irritating arrogance of Henry. I almost stopped watching. But I pushed on through and was hopeful once these two characters starting helping each other...but either because of lack of chemistry or just bad dialog and writing...it was boring and I just didn't care. I knew they'd end up together...and that he'd get his career change...but there really was no climax and no fun in the ending. Oh, and Maxwell was wasted here. His character wasn't likeable and his dialog was boring as well.
I love some Hallmark movies, but this one...just no.
It Was Always You (2021)
Loved it!
I've watched so many Hallmark movies, this one was really good with a sweet storyline. Kindof a slow burn...takes its time. No big excitement, just lovely development. Tyler and Erin have great chemistry, and I loved Tyler's laid back character. Hated both Tyler (slicked back) and Erin's (wig?) hair. Rating this a 10/10 based on comparison to other Hallmarks.
Streets of Fire (1984)
Love this movie
Although the dialog is sometimes a little hokey, I absolutely love this movie! There are so many stars in here, early in their career, the story is great, the soundtrack is awesome...great 80's movie! I wish they had done the sequels! If you've never seen it, watch it, just for Willem Dafoe! He is an evil villain! Amy Madigan, Diane Lane, Michael Pare, Rick Rossovich, Rick Moranis, and who can ever forget Bill Paxton! What a cast! I also love all of the filming in Chicago. As soon as you see it, you just know it's Chicago! All in all, it's just a great, underrated, under-watched film that is a lot of fun to watch! If you can't find it on cable, rent the DVD!
International Velvet (1978)
A great horse movie!
I absolutely love this movie, I cry every time...maybe because as a girl, I always wanted to ride in the Olympics, I don't know. Of course it isn't the same as the original, (another movie I love), but it's set in a completely different time...
The riding sequences were great, the references to the original were good, and overall, the acting was pretty good. Christopher Plummer was a surprise, and I loved Anthony Hopkins in his part as the taskmaster coach!
I own the video, and have shown it to my young daughters...they love it too!
A piece of fluff definitely, but for a girl who had a dream...it's awesome!
