Paranoid (2000)
A Paranoid Experience
This is one of the true weird, bizarre, just different of the many King-adaptations existing. Of the dollar-babies I've seen, this is the best. It's based on King's poem from Skeleton Crew, his second collection from 1985, and is one of the most effective poems I've ever read.
It's a cool concept having the paranoid narrator be a woman. I don't know why, but I always pictured a man, while reading the poem. All the lines from the poem is here, and you really feel for this poor woman, but hey, she's creepy, too. And the shifts between color and black and white is superbly done, the black and white sequences apparently being the narrator's delusions. Or maybe not. Not all people might like this short film, but for true King-fans and true film-fans, it's a must-see.
Strawberry Spring (2001)
Too short
Considering that it's a dollar-baby, it's very professional done, technical and all, but they should have made it longer. It's too short. It's quite moody and a bit spooky at places, and you begin to warm up and really enjoying what you see, and boom, it's over. It's pretty close to Stephen King's story, but it leaves too much out. 8 minutes was an appropriate length for Paranoid, another and better dollar-baby, but not this time around.
Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the Thirteenth (2000)
I didn't Shriek at all, nor did I laugh!
I had no idea that this movie even existed, so I was quite surprised when I stumbled into it at the video store. I rented it, had some high hopes. Boy, was I let down. I mean, I loved Scary Movie, it was fun, brilliant, and also succeeded to include a few shocks. Also, the actors were great. It's no wonder why this one didn't make it to the cinemas. Yeah, it's produced before Scary Movie, so what? This one is a sure yawn-fest, you won't laugh nor giggle, and you sure won't shriek at all...if you do shriek, however, it'll only be because you suddenly realized that you have spent money on this c**p.
Let this one go.
