The Marvels (2023)
These particular Marvel women
Now I normally love all things Marvel but they did not do these ladies of Marvel any justice. The best thing about the movie was the dog gone cats eating everything and everyone. Three fighting one and they gots their butts kicked. I didn't care for the story line, the singing and the dancing... groot is the only one I accept having his best life. Oh I can say one of the things I do like about Marvel is the little snippet they give you in between the credits. That part was good and a good introduction to whatever is coming next. But the movie itself was bad. All of the other Marvel women have an air of respect, strength and tenacity. Unfortunately, this movie for these women, fell short. Honestly, I don't recommend it.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023)
Ignore the bad reviews
If you like Godzilla movies then you have to watch this. It gives a good back story for people who watched Godzilla movies in Saturday afternoons, way, way back when!! No Godzilla isn't in every episode but it is still worth the watch and there are other monsters. The good thing is that he is still a "good" monster, protector, whatever..... I read some of the other reviews with people complaining about girl bosses and unlikeable characters. While I get some of the issues with character flaws, there is still the question about what would you do? What's more important? No, it doesn't all make sense right now but the story is coming together nicely and I definitely recommend it!
Spider (2022)
Really???
I know that there are a lot of stupid movies on Tubi and I literally try to watch as many as I can. This one however, was way worse because this nerdy black girl who really only dates white men wants to be beautiful.... So when she does the hocus pocus mess ( I really want to say something different) she turns into a skinny blonde haired blue eyed chick. This is what beautiful is? For centuries media has told us that we, I am a black woman, are not good enough and then you make a movie about it? This is the complete and total opposite of what this girl is. That's it. That's my review. Don't watch it and don't waste your time.
Pretty Hard Cases (2021)
Had to stand up for this show!
Ok so... did you ever watch the heat with Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock? It's like that but way, way, way better. Two completely different women bond over work and friendship. Their relationship reminds me of the relationship between Christina Yang and Meredith Grey from Grey's anatomy. (IYKYK). They are each others person. They rely on each other, laugh, cry and argue but they love each other and have such a good friendship. I've watched all three seasons and hope that they get a fourth. I love the relationship between all the main characters honestly, even the weirdo cops are good. It's not gut wrenching, no real tear jerking moments but wholesome and fun. And definitely worth the watch.
Haunted Trail (2021)
Don't bother
I hate that I am forced to used so many characters to tell you this was a waste of time. But here goes. As a fan of horror movies, this was not one of them.... Haunted trail is about friends visiting a haunted house/trail of sorts and one of them has an agenda. There wasn't any gore, small amount of blood splatter and the screams were just corny. You see your friend die and there are no tears. You see one of them hanging and you don't stick together? You don't alert one of the many still working employees that something is going on??? You don't fight back? Your football players for goodness sakes. It was a complete waste of time. No name actors, if that's what you want to call them and Desi Banks and all that dumb screaming and cursing.... He sounded like a complete fool.
Trauma Center (2019)
Just bad
Where do I start? Bruce Willis used to be so much better than this and I know he has issues but this is beyond bad. It's like practice or reading lines at the table. Every actor in this movie did poorly. Steve Gutenberg plays a doctor... it's like watching paint dry. Maddie is the heroine of the movie and she just irks my nerves. It's like the movie is just all over the place. They have a 30 year old woman playing a 16 year old sister, the two police officers/thugs are maybe M-list actors.... I have seen them both before but their acting is just as bad. I should've read the reviews first and not wasted my time. The fact that someone made this movie, took the time to hire and direct it without rewriting the whole story line is crazy. I can make a better movie than this. Don't bother. It's just bad.
The Girl Next Door (2007)
Tears
This was really hard to watch. I heard about it from an IG post and thought it would be more horror. Well it was, just not in the way I thought. I wish I would've read the reviews before hand.... If I did, I wouldn't have watched it. The torture this girl went through, the fact that nobody said anything, the fact that neighborhood kids stood around and watched, the fact that it was youth, the fact that it was her unstable, hateful, heartless and delusional aunt..... I finished it but I fear this will haunt me for awhile. Someone said in their review that it was like a snuff film. I agree. And bexause it was kids, that makes it so much worse.
The Upshaws (2021)
Garbage
I really tried to like this because I like the actors individually. But this is garbage.
Let me start with the kids. Beyond irky. Maya and Aaliyah have no acting skills at all, they both talk and act annoying. The two sons, Kelvin and Bernard are about the only normal ones on the show and you don't even see them that much. Lucretia (Sykes) and Bernard (Epps) are so disrespectful towards each other that it's not even funny. Regina (Fields) acting is not believable. The lady Sheila smiles like a Cheshire Cat and her voice his ridiculous and she doesn't even sound like that for real. The guys in the shop are just dumb acting. Oh and the baby mama Tasha (Dennis) is doing such a disservice to her acting. I've seen her in other things and loved her.
Netflix cancels all the shows we seem to love after a season or two and leave us without a proper ending. But this is the mess they keep. SMH. Watch at your own risk. Very cringey.
Freeridge (2023)
Cringe
I watched this because I liked the previews. I finished it to write an accurate review. This is so cringey and I will not watch another season if it does come back. Netflix is good for keeping the wrong shows so it might be. The characters are kids so maybe I need to take that into consideration but the story is all over the place. They're
supposed to be in high school but they're drinking with the adults, the uncle is a big child and acts dumb, the sisters are horrible to each other and say the most hateful things. They make me very glad to not have a sister. Gloria the older sister is bossy, horrible, hateful and violent. The younger sister, Ines is a manipulative lying little brat. The friends have no backbones. Thankfully it was only 8 episodes. But my suggestion: don't waste your time.
Habaekui Shinboo (2017)
Ok Kdrama
I've been on this Kdrama kick for a while now. This one was definitely worth the watch. Now we know that with any show, some of it can be cringy and sometimes we don't like one of the leading characters. This is no different. When it comes down to Yuns character, when she was at work, it was bad, she wasn't a good doctor/psychiatrist, when it came down to her only two friends; she was not a very good friend, when it came down to Habaeck she was better, although I think she didn't have to be so clueless. Habaecks character was annoying but the romance between the two of them was worth the watch. The show was all over the place and some parts had you scratching your head and the end was a little weird but I still enjoyed it. This review is all over the place because that's how the show was to me. But if there was a second season, I'd be front and center!
May I Help You (2022)
Worth the watch!
I've watched a few Kdramas and just happened to fall upon this one. It's a good story. It can be a little infuriating but luckily you have a new episode waiting for you so you don't have to wait to see what happens next. The characters are all connected in some form or another and you also get to know each of their personalities and stories. I still have about 6 episodes to go. But when it comes on, it has my undivided attention. It has subtitles, so if that bothers you, this isn't the show for you. But I promise you will love how it plays out. No spoilers, you have to watch it for yourself. But you will enjoy it.
The Midnight Club (2022)
Not horror but incredibly beautiful
I knew I would end up crying about a movie about kids in hospice but damn. The relationships are dysfunctional like family and just as beautiful. Each of their stories, in stories, are beautifully written and surprisingly deeper than I could've imagined and actually pretty interesting. There are bits of horror but nothing that is too off the wall. It's only 10 episodes and I think it's definitely worth a watch. For some reason the reviews have to be longer so this is just fill in so I can submit it. I hate writing reviews for this reason. I said what I said and it still isn't long enough. Done!
Evil (2019)
What happened? Had to edit
1st season was good, interesting. 2nd season got weird. The grandmother (RadG) is a pain in my bum; Dealing with the guy trying to hurt her daughter and granddaughters is crazy to me. Choosing him, even after finding out about his idiosyncrasies.... The 4 daughters always talking over one another and bickering in every dang episode is beyond annoying. Now I'm watching season 3. The grandmother is still dealing with the same guy.... The mother is only with her children for a short, the one kid (lex) has some issues and mom is supposed to be a psychologist or something.....
EDIT: so I heard the show is ending and went back to season 2 to play catch up. On season 3 now and I wish that David, Ben and Kristen would talk to each other. They are all having some type of issue! I hope everything is addressed in this last season. I'll be back for another edit when it does.
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
Just ehh
I love both Godzilla and King Kong and the trailers had my hyped. HOWEVER, this was a NO for me. There were good fight scenes but how it got to that point made no sense and the acting part of the movie was just bad. I was hoping for more when Kong found his home. This had so much potential but fell flat. Very flat.
Runaways (2017)
No real premise
I gave it a shot because it's Marvel and I have loved all things Marvel up to this point (except Iron Fist). The concept is all over the place and there's no explanation for most of it. The characters are cringey as hell. They made sure to cover all ethnicities and LGBT but there is no premise. The show just doesn't make sense. And the way the these teenagers act is nothing but privileged; it's just a mess and the only reason I watched all of it is bec I hate starting something and not finishing it. Second season cleared a lot of the cast. We got aliens, witches and dinosaurs.... I'm surprised it had 3 seasons. There are other shows to binge on a rainy weekend, take your time and find one cause this isn't it.
#BlackAF (2020)
I'm black and I hate it
I can't stand the parents. They are both annoying af and I honestly don't know which is worse. The historical information that they share and the music are the best parts. The kids are seemingly normal with the arguments and not getting along but Izzy and Pops are both cringey. I finished the season bec I tried to give it a chance and it's only 8 episodes but I'm so over people talking about this. I really, really do not like this show.
The Postcard Killings (2020)
Twist with a twist
I like Jeffrey Dean Morgan in pretty much anything he does so this was an easy pick. It was definitely worth a watch. Some small things were left out that would help you follow the story better but it didn't lose you. Good story line, good acting. I just wish.... you'll know what I was going to say when you watch it!!!!
Deputy (2020)
Don't care what others say
I like it. I like Stephen Dorff, he's sexy and has an attitude. Yeah, there's politics involved but so what. All the episodes don't revolve around him or his family which is good. It's like 911. So if you like that, you'll like this.
Black Lightning (2018)
Ehhhh
So I'm not going to lie.... it does kinda hurt to watch. I like them as a family unit but individually they make me cringe. How is it that no one can tell who they are??? There super suits don't cover there faces at all. Mom is now a green light crackhead, dad is a control freak, Jennifer is a teenage nightmare with the attitude that goes with it and Anissa is another control freak. Just unrealistic as hell.
Quarantine is a blip. I think it's day 7 and I'm running out of stuff to watch.
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Addictive
I've read many of the reviews, good, bad and indifferent, just to see where people's heads were at. I didn't know and don't care that Moss is a Scientologist. I don't care that when the book was written and now it's being shown with some 20th century technology. What I care about is the story line. With the world we live in today, I don't see this happening but the fact that it could, the fact that someone thought of this world. These woman are baby making slaves. Martha's don't have to deal with the brutality of being a handmaid. I think the cast is awesome, even the ones I don't like, the storyline, the cliffhanger from season to season (episode 13 season 3 was freaking excellent). If you haven't watched it yet, you're totally missing out. I'm glad it's not on Netflix bec I literally would have binged watched it and then I would be lost until the next season. I have something to look forward to every week.
I hope you read this and watch it. The show isn't for everyone. But it has the drama, the love story, the villains, the weird characters, the bloodshed, the ups and downs better than a lot of shows on today. It has it all. Don't believe me? Watch it for yourself!!!!
Top of the Lake (2013)
Better not be canceled.
Personally I enjoyed it. It's 2019 and yes I'm just hearing about it but after binging for the last two days; there's only one person I want to be at the door. Yes, Moss's character goes through her share of trials and tribulations but who hasn't? Sometimes things get way worse before they get better. I want to see her be happy and still doing a hella good job as a Detective.
