The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping (2024)
Felt like a bunch of kids making a documentary
I couldn't sit through this unfortunately, I managed one episode. The main lady Katherine is verging on unbearable to watch, she acts like a child even though she's mid 30s. It also seems very bizarre that they all seem really excited and giddy about telling their stories of horrific abuse, almost like they are in competition with eachother who had it worse. They giggle and laugh about the stuff that went on there, everything seems really light hearted even though the subject matter is anything but. I understand everyone deals with things differently, but ALL of them seem to do this. I've never seen abuse victims so happy and excited whilst telling their abuse stories. Strange and unwatchable unfortunately. Also find it abit convenient that they break in and just happen to find ALL this evidence just sat there.
The Upside (2017)
Unbiased review
I havent seen the original- I didnt even know this was a remake. Its been on my list on amazon for a while, so I thought I'd watch.
It was okay. I was disappointed to be honest. I've seen the fundamentals of caring with Paul rudd which I thoroughly enjoyed, so thought this would be similar. Unfortunately the characters fall flat. Bryan cranstons character was very one dimensional, I didnt really feel anything towards him. Kevin Harts character was abit bizarre. He's a grown man but acted like a teenage boy who had never seen a women before, found it abit odd and didn't really match his character or give anything to the movie (maybe they wanted it too add comedic value - just came across Pervy).
It was okay, but I wouldn't rave about it and there's much better films out there.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Nothing bad I can say!
I have never given a film 10/10 before - but I honestly just came out the cinema, with tear soaked cheeks! The most visually stunning film I have ever seen, I almost felt like I was watching a nature documentary in parts. I thought the storyline was actually better than the first one, contrary to some other reviews. This one was more thought provoking and emotional, but still had the action and drama of the first one. It leaves some things to your interpretation which I liked too. What I love about this film is that all the characters have depth, which again is why I think this film is better than the first. Highly urge everyone to watch!!
Nope (2022)
Fever dream
By the end of the film I felt like I was in a fever dream. I've left th cinema baffled at how on earth this film has got good reviews.
There seems to be sub plots that have absolutely nothing to do with the main story line (unless it's something to do with animals/erratic behaviour and if so, dumb.)
The film was also way too long with loads of filler parts that were just so boring I kept checking my watch. The trailer makes this film look soooooo much better and so much more creepy than it is. It isnt remotely creepy. What a shame, as I enjoyed get out and us. But this is utter trash.
Edit: I've just watched a YouTube meaning explained about it, apparently, there is a 'deeper' meaning, metaphor type thing that links it. Honestly, the deeper meaning is weak, and personally don't think it suits this film at all. Leave the horror genre alone!
The Black Phone (2021)
I'm baffled by the raving reviews
So, I'm really confused how this film has amazing reviews. It was okay. The acting was brilliant, and although I wasn't Alive in the 70s, I can see how this film may bring nostalgia.
However, there was literally no back story at all about the serial killer or the main kids family (I.e why his sister and his mum had psychic dreams and what really led to his mum killing herself..not sure why this was mentioned at all as it went nowhere). Things were said i.e the serial killer hints he used to be down in the basement, why? Was he abused too? Why the mask? Why did he cover his face when the mask was removed and start screaming? Why did he kill kids in the first place?! Really disappointing as I really thought it would all unravel and there would be a good twist or atleast a story as to why all this was happening. Wasn't a massive fan of seeing children getting punched in the face by an adult or hit with a belt and screaming hysterically either - I get its a horror but just made me feel abit.. icky. Overall I give it a 6 as I wasn't bored watching it and there were a few bits that made me jump, but there was absolutely no real story so can't give it any higher.
True Life Crime UK (2021)
This could have been good
The stories are very interesting, some of them are already heard of though. However, the presenter ruined the show completely. That sounds harsh, but she was so naive and asking the most stupid questions to the victims families, parts made me cringe. I didn't really get the feeling she is actually into true crime, and her remarks to certain things was just not professional.
Night Sky (2022)
Extremely disappointing ending!
Ahhh im actually annoyed after watching thr last episode.
Baring in mind, these aren't short 30 minute episodes, to get through 8 episodes, and still have sooo many unanswered questions Is annoying, I feel like I've wasted around 7 hours of my life.
The elderly couple are the cutest couple ever, genuinely made my heart warm watxhing their dynamic. It was well acted, however, as others have said it is very slow. I dont mind slow burners so I did watch till the end, thinking something has to give surely. But I'm still not really any the wiser as I was in the first episode! I also think some story lines were introduced for no reason? Unless they are picked up in season 2... but I don't think that makes a good series imo. You have to tick the audience atleast something to keep them wanting more. Could have been great but massively flopped on the last episode.
Beautiful Boy (2018)
Raw and real
I really liked this movie. It isn't trying to be preachy it's genuinely just telling a story of the experiences of people living/being around a drug addict. It was acted really well by all, and I found it to be a beautiful film, touching and heartbreaking.
Lost Child (2017)
It was okay
.. but it wasn't a horror film. If you go into this film thinking you're about too watch something scary you may be disappointed. I would actually say it was more of a heartwarming film than any other genre (maybe a drama?). The little boy made my heart hurt he was so adorable bless him I thought he acted the part really well. There were a few parts that didn't seem to lead anywhere but may be I am just not connecting the dots.i wasn't bored or didn't want to turn it over so it gets a 6.
Pieces of Her (2022)
Boring as hell
I really tried with this as I love toni collete and there's a couple of British actors in this that I like too. However it's soooooo boring!! I'm on episode 5 and I still have no idea what's going on, and what I do know is boring as hell and not sure why it's took this long to tell us. Boring 😴
Hereditary (2018)
Creepy AF
Saw this film in the cinema and had me hooked all the way through.
There's some really disturbing parts that genuinely could give me nightmares.
Very original too, not cheesy or cheap jump scares a genuine creepy story line.
Annabelle: Creation (2017)
Surprisingly scary
After reading some of the reviews on here I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's creepy and has plenty of jump scares. The music is well placed and makes you feel anxious AF.
I haven't actually seen any of the other Annabelle films yet (I've seen the nun and the conjuring) so wanted to start with this one then watch the others. I didn't really get the ending, but that could have been because I haven't seen the others yet.
I love horror's and I would recommend this one!
The Nun (2018)
Cheesy
I really liked the conjuring films but not this, was a typical cheesy horror movie with a few jump scares. I hate it when horror films try and have comedy one liners in it - doesn't fit and isn't funny.
Snowpiercer (2013)
Don't understand all the amazing reviews
So I was really excited to watch this as the reviews on here are really good (which is hard to come by with anything on Netflix these days)
I enjoyed the originality of this film, and thought the idea was quite unique. It did keep me watching, the speacial effects/gore was good. Also Tilda swinton's acting was amazing in this and I loved her weird character.
However, there are just too many plot holes/wtf moments in this for me to give it more than 5 stars. A guy gets his arm put out the window for 7 minutes, within that time it is frozen solid and gets smashed to pieces. At the end of the film two people go outside , and low and behold it's not that cold and there's even polar bears living outside.
Also, why did the people fighting get a fish out randomly? Why did a random women start licking blood off her finger? Why was there a terminator style guy who just would not die? Where did they get all the bugs from for the protein bars? And why was he so grossed out by eating bugs but not about eating BABIES.
Last point. If the inventor could invent a never ending engine.... why make a train?! Why not build a town underground with a generator or something?
It's a shame because if it wasn't for the silly plot holes it could have been good.
