Perhaps the funniest 20 minutes of my life!
12 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I first saw this short when i was 4 years old, and for 18 years no matter how many of the stooges films i see, This one will no doubt always remain my favorite. From the opening Scene i cant stop laughing, The insults, the slaps, the punches, the one liners, Their all typical stooge lines... Flawless. They do a job and end up paid with circus tickets, They get to the circus they cause a riot. They get of "easy" by joining the circus, little do they know their human targets for the Spear thrower. And when curly gets loose and throws the spear back, The ending of this flick is downright hilarious. I highly recommend this for any fan of the stooges, And any fan of Comedy!

The Display of a Mentally Unstable Mind!
3 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Its seldom a movie, so accurately depicts the Ravagings of an unstable mind, so clearly and graphicly. Its not uncommon for a person suffering feelings of neglect, and truly believing he's/she's worthless to have cruel and violent thoughts. The difference is very few people act on those thoughts.

I read a comment on this film by someone else, Who kept going down a list of things he/she didn't like, Rather than pointing out the entire point this film was pursuing. After all, Natural born killers is the same thing, but filmed differently.

There's one thing about this movie you can compare is that In both stories, the killer couple is consisted of 2 lovebirds who believe they are hated, unwanted, abused, and neglected by everyone, and everything... Except each other!

The difference is the body count, and How in Natural born Killers, They glorify Serial Murder. This movie depicts how One character of the couple, Is afraid, and weak minded,In desperate need of acceptance. The other is unstable and completely detached. Together they form a couple that Truly and utterly has no Ability to feel for others misery, When their own happiness is At stake. At least this is my interpretation.

Jimmy And Judy, They meet at an odd point in each-others lives, circumstances pull them closer together as the story evolves, They explode in a violent, but fluid motion set forth by their own Stupidity, and misery. Its as accurate a depiction of A Rebel without a clue, as any movie of recent years.

Maybe Its not for everyone, and maybe its not filmed to be glorified, and "Normal" but its a wild ride and image of what Unstable minds, given the right nudge, can do. not a family movie, Not a movie for the weak stomached, But nevertheless, Its a movie That takes you to limits many films are unable... To the edge!

What is wrong with critics?
6 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
First off, unlike the person who's comment is the main comment for this film. in this film the stoner humor is all there and then some. they have all kinds of funny jokes and skits. and the solution to the bankrupt film festival was not a drug sale. but a show of there famous skits. and honestly i fell over laughing during this entire movie. I've never laughed harder at anything in my life as to some of the scenes in this movie. like for example, queer wars, or the dogs Herbie and Ralf. lol, forget a serious critics asinine comments, this film is simply put a simple comedy that everyone who likes cheech and chong should see. its not unique, its not high tech, its not complicated. its simple and funny. and thats what a comedy is all about. after all, look at kiss, the bands name says it all. because it stands for Keep It Simple Stupid. so if you want it simple, and funny to boot. this is a film for you.

An Epic Realistic Portrayal of Civil War Era New York.
18 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I never saw this film in theaters. but i often saw the case sitting at the movie store. i hadn't seen to many films that had been nominated for 10 academy awards that i hadn't already seen. not even braveheart received as many. well i finally rented this, i put it in my VCR not knowing what to expect. as i sat and watched i was immediately intrigued by the utter realism and violence portrayed to an unbelievably well made opening scene.

This film unfolded before me and i saw such a moving plot, the aged but worthy father son revenge story. brilliant performances by Leo, and a chilling and vibrant display or intensity by the man himself Daniel Day Louis. his portrayal of Bill the butcher raised the hair on my neck at times. and also worthy of praise was Brendan Gleeson who did a great job of keeping you intrigued of his somewhat mysterious part in the later pieces of the film which simply gripped my attention and when it was over i have to say my only disappointment was the song at the end "the Hands that built America" although it received a golden globe i couldn't sit through the ending credits where the song was played. As sad as that seems but all in all this was an excellent film.

Few films capture emotion like this one.
7 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
when i saw some loser idea from a previous commentator about this film being a melodramatic waste of time i was baffled. this film is the most emotional film i have ever seen. the idea that those Nazis who could do such things were themselves immune to it all but afraid of pain. its rare that you get a look at so many things of the camps, and this film shows you nearly anything you would imagine happening in a place such as Auschwitz. forget that comment that guy made about this film being so under par and just one of another. watch this for yourself and i guarantee if you have any sense of a good movie or good acting you'll know this movie is complete with both. no complaints on my part of this film other than the fact that since it was made on facts that in the end Doctor Joseph Mengele was not given a piece of his own medicine. any other way this was a great film.

The Patriot (2000)
10/10
brilliant
12 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
When i saw this movie the first time i was truly touched at the remarkable portrayal of the lead character Benjamin Martin by the limitless talents of Mel Gibson. brave heart was still better in some ways but this film took the tops in a few ways of its own. forget about how totally accurate this movie may have been historically speaking because when it comes to an action movie, this film i believe more than makes a place for itself.

The most movings moments of the entire film above and beyond all the others for me were the moment where he is trying to save his oldest son, then his next oldest son Thomas tries to save his captured brother Gabriel. colonel William Tavington of the British army takes it upon himself to shoot his son. Mel Gibson falls to his knees and catches him before he falls. the next thing you see as his son dies in his arms is that when Mel Gibson looks up at the colonel and says he was a stupid boy. you can see by the look in the eyes of Mel Gibson "THIS IS WAR" he forgets all about his wanting to forget his past, trying to hide from what he knew he had done. but no longer.

he took two of his three remaining sons and using his knowledge of the area he beat the British to the spot where they would cross. he and his sons attacked without warning. they started shooting. but once he was out of bullets he charged in with a knife and a Cherokee tomahawk. this was the most moving moment of this film not because of the motives, or any reason other than when Mel Gibson is fighting hand to hand with trained, armed and dangerous men and slaughters them. his sons watch in horror that the peaceful and loving father they knew could be capable of such atrocities. all of them are dead but one who holds a knife to his son Gabriel's neck. Benjamin martin takes aim with his tomahawk, he sinks it into the mans forehead. suddenly out of the blue a British soldier tries to get up and run. Mel Gibson drops him by the creek by retrieving his tomahawk from the last victim. then when you think that most movies would stop so those week stomached people who complain even in war films that "theres too much violence." well i give my thanks and applause to the film makers and most of all to Mel Gibson for this moment of the film as well as the film in general. he unleashes his rage for the loss of his son and for them bringing him into the war from what he had tried to leave behind...that war hungry monster within. he chops away at the man who lies helpless in agony as he unleashes that fury, with each chop he is covered in blood. his children watch from afar and watch him fall part. and like most people would in real life while that rage takes place that softer side comes out and he breaks down. i have only a few times in my life seen acting of such skill, and of all those more than half of those incredible moments were performed by Mel Gibson.

the reason i take so much time to recall that moment is because i never took movies seriously for the most part because they never were taken serious in a lot of cases of what could have made them incredible movies. this is one exception of only a few that i call perfect. this film shows you a glimpse of life in the colonies, the battles our American people fought so hard to win. the start and end of the war. brilliant acting, war, friendship, leadership, inspiration, patriotism. this film brought all that and more to the screen. if i wore a hat any day i would tip my hat to the makers of this film, and those who made it happen. if more movies were taken to such an extent of acting regardless of historical acting i think a lot more movies would be better for it. one of Mel Gibson's finest moments. hands down 10/10 two thumbs up.

The best comedy of the 90's...and probably the best i have seen.
11 October 2006
this movie may not have seemed like much to some people but it had everything i look for in a comedy. fall down funny moments accompanied by a moment or two of seriously moving scenes, great actors, and pretty much everything a good movie is supposed to be like. despite David spade playing his usual snobby character he made this role into an unusual performance which i don't think he had ever exceeded until he hit the screen with Joe dirt. regardless of whether or not some people were not Chris Farley fans i saw this film when it came out and my friends and i still talk about it... 11 years later. this movie was what finally told me that Chris Farley was the real deal. he is the best comedian i have seen in my life. in the words of some he could be clumsy, clever, funny, serious, crazy, sober, and moving or depressing at the same time. not the same words but the message is all that counts. one of the true great actors of our time, and one of the true great comedy's of all time. along with good acting, good story, hilarious moments, serious scenes that at times brought me to tears. this movie stands atop the hordes as a movie that marked the beginning of a brief reign at the top of the comedy world by the late great Chris Farley. no actor before or since has captured my interests in a movie since. because no actor before or since has put so much into his movies. this movie is worth the time, if you haven't taken the time to see it do so the next time you rent a movie.

possibly the worst movie ever made
27 September 2006
no matter how great a fan of any action hero you may be this movie is not action, this is posing one thing and calling it action. this film had practically zero action scenes worth watching. in fact this entire film was not worth watching. no matter how big a fan of Jean Van Damme you are this movie is a disgrace to his talent. don't waste your time i wont even go into details why. stay away and unless your getting paid don't waste your time. as i rented this movie the only reason i did was to see Van Damme fight. as this movie unfolded about some corny plot of secret weapons this was a OK idea. the Prussians are trying to beat the Americans into finding it. well i saw the wests best man come in and he couldn't fight for his life. and he was more worried about his boys having fun than fighting the guys chasing him. this has no right to be on film, it has no right to be seen, it has no right to be called a movie. well thats putting it nicely. take some advice and don't waste your time or you will regret it.

quite easily the best martial arts masterpiece since Bruce lee himself
23 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
unlike some people who tend to think that every movie had to be put into such serious seriousness in contrast to real events. the entire purpose of movies is not to be a history book with some strict codes to follow, movies are designed to be entertainment, not a history lesson. people always tell those who take a movie to serious, "its just a movie" well if you think about it thats all it is. since when does a movie say 'the absolute truth on the cover of the film. the answer is never. they may try to capture some of the events but i think despite that there could have been like one member had stated more of his personal reputations for being a doting father, a mystical fighter off the screen, etc. when it comes down to it i think how they captured each scene of combat in a different setting it beats some movies where every fight starts the same way with someone saying something to someone and one of them getting mad. in this case Bruce was never the aggressor but he was always the one who finished the conflict. who cares if he really injured his back in a fight or weightlifting. the film gives you an emotionally intriguing story of how he overcame such an injury whether it was from a fight or from lifting.

aside from my disagreements on how people are so critical about the movies story i have no problems with the story myself. i think this film although like many could have been better i don't think that jet Li could have made this film any better than it was made. this film was made with absolute professionalism on the part of both Jason Scott lee, and Lauren holly. as this movie unfolded i was already interested by the title alone when i first saw the film when i was 8. it soon became my favorite action movie greatly surpassing "blood Sport" which was also a very good movie. that scene at the beginning where some British sailors show up and start harrassing a beautiful woman, you see this person walk up the stairs who walks up behind the leader who was roughing the woman. the guy gets tired of listening to him and he tries to hit him out of the blue but before the next two minutes have gone by he has dropped each one of them. later the same thing happens in a different environment. a woman who was attracted to him had a jealous admirer who started a fight where he and four others with meat cleavers tried to kill him. in the end each one of them goes back inside limping like they had been hit by a tank. while Bruce has merely a cut on his arm. the best fight in this film was this scene. the energy and the first glimpse of how truly masterful the front-man was at his portrayal of the legend Bruce lee. each fight gave you that i have to see it again feeling. combined with possibly the best soundtrack i have heard made for a movie, this film captures emotion, intensity, and every feeling i hope to get from a film. this is the best action film of the last decade. don't tell me that hero was the best action movie you ever saw. i couldn't sit through half let alone the whole film.

the action in hero in comparison to dragon the Bruce lee story was completely without question inferior. i know i am not picky about a historical plot or some half A**ed story line. but i am picky about a good fight scene. hero was a flop because for one you cant fight a battle while running on water, you cant fly 20 feet in the air by bouncing on a tree limb and least of all one thats only about an inch thick. you cant jump in the air and run along the wall and slash your way through a bunch of bundles of anything and not touch the ground. this in contrast to the simply superior martial arts choriography that made dragon such a great film to watch. as far as things go from a simple stand point, dragon the Bruce lee story may not be completely accurate but it more than portrayed the mystical fighting ferocity that made Bruce lee the legend he was. i give this film a 9 out of 10 rating. a great film, a fan of Bruce lee or not rent this film and see for yourself.

Casino (1995)
10/10
An amazingly entertaining, mafia movie masterpiece.
17 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
when i was 15 years old my aunt Lisa had a garage sale and gave me this when no one bought it from her collection. along with a new reclining bed. at first i only put this movie in out of boredom because i rarely have ever seen a movie that accurately portrays the realism that a mob film demands. so there i was on a Saturday night and i put this movie in and started watching it. the opening scene where ace walks out of the casino and heads to his car, and suddenly as his words ring out "when you love someone, you've gotta trust them there's no other way. you've got to give them the key to everything thats yours. otherwise whats the point...and for a while...thats the kind of love i thought i had." then his car explodes as he turns the ignition. then as he falls in a bottomless pit and a dramatic opening scene hooks you with a yearning to see more i was hooked in the first five minutes to see more.

i sat and watched as the film unveiled itself. to say the least this film like a fellow commentator of this film said should be in the top 250 films of all time. in fact I'm amazed this film isn't in the top ten. it wasn't the unedited brutal violence that made this film, it wasn't the accurate facts and great visual affects alone. it was the skill of its leading offensive line of Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Sharon Stone. to say the least without them this film would have never gotten the credit it so dramatically deserves.

the character of Robert De Niro, Sam "Ace" Rothstein although a somewhat flamboyant character made you want to be him. a man of skill, intelligence, a boss of an ever growing casino, and a wealthy ladies man. this character in my opinion would have been a complete disgrace without the unchallenged skills of the lead man who so brilliantly portrayed him. Ace was a hell of a fun character to see. as the film evolves you see a lot of drama in the world of ace and it goes from great to good to bad to worse and Robert De Niro rolls with the punches and fights fire with fire like no other actor i know of could have done. not since The Deer hunter has De Niro starred in a film that captured my emotion on such a scale. an absolutely brilliant character played by an absolutely brilliant actor.

the character of Nicky Santoro being a quite versatile role required someone who could be sensitive, funny, bold, brilliant, scary, intimidating, and admired in the same character. well they cast the best choice for my money when they cast Joe Pesci. aside from the brutal heartless side of him that comes out when someone interferes with him or his job he was an admirable character. someone who could do what it takes to get the job done while at the same time being a good friend to Ace and also having a wife and a son. its not easy being such a serious character I'm sure but only Joe Pearce would know how challenging it was to tackle this role. when someone told his friend to stick a pen up his A**, well let me tell you he didn't have one shred of decency in his character. he took the pen and stabbed the man at least three dozen times. such a moving character, who has a popular restaurant of his own where he was in some eyes more famous than the famous people there had so many traits that were evolved in this film. hands down this role was handled beautifully and masterfully by the skills of Joe Pesci who in my opinion is the best choice for such a serious mob role.

Sharon stone takes her role as the money obsessed, drug addicted, alcoholic, whore Ginger. she only cared about money and a boyfriend who took it from her. for some reason even when Ace proposed she was still tied to that loser lowlife pimp who ran her life. in the film she even tries to finance his bullshit by taking Aces money. when Ace finds out you almost wish he had killed both of them. because when the good pl' boys beat him down and leave him in a mess in his car ginger cries and sobs like he didn't deserve what came to him. tell me honestly do you think you would deserve getting beaten by three men at once for sneaking around with the wife of a casino boss with mob ties, then trying to take 25,000 dollars of his money. well you decide for yourself.

each character gives you a reason to like or hate them. but only good actors can assure that you will feel both throughout the film. if you haven't seen this film i highly recommend it. if you have like mob movies you will love this film. And even if you don't love mafia movies but enjoy a movie with good acting, good storyline, good accuracy, or any one of the above and more you will find this movie quite to your liking. without doubt a two thumbs up.

Magic in the making!
2 August 2006
I first saw this film when my grandmother bought me the 50th anniversary addition of when i was too young to recall my own age. I grew up watching this film on an almost daily basis until i was at least 10 years old. i never got tired of it and i always found it inspiring to a boy who needed to be inspired like me at that time. this films magical portrayal of the inner child in all of us brought out of the best in me at that time. knowing full well how your friends can make a difference for you. and not to mention that most this film has a message for more than just children...but for the young in heart in all of us.

In the opinion of most no film has yet to capture the imagination like this film, and no film has yet to exceed the wonderful affect this film and most of all the story itself have had on people for the last century. From the moment it hit the screen it took a while to sink in to the public imagination... and it took a while to sink into my imagination the messages this movie held so dear. Well I hold this film dear to me for it has helped so many children find at least a small sense of that incredible adventure we all seek at that age. if you haven't seen this movie I recommend you do. As this film has done since its release it has captured imagination... of both the young and . so take the time and sit down to watch it. you may find that your still young in heart even if your not young.

my outlook
7 July 2006
if children's movies were meant to be judged the same way that adult movies are then we would have nothing that children could grasp with there imagination. this film had more or my friends, and cousins glued to the TV than any other children's movie i have seen and i have seen a lot of them. this film has imagination, it has color, it has a good story, it tells the tail of the King himself Elvis Arron Presley in a way. this film was one of my favorites that i ever saw as a child and no one will convince me that it wasn't a good film considering that this film helped me pass time on both good and bad days. it is at least deserving of some credit for the fun filled story contained in it. lighten up people children's films are not designed around being able to entertain people our age as would movies that we would normally comment on. at least i don't treat children's films that way. a good film for children of all ages.

Rocky IV (1985)
10/10
One of Stallones best achievements.
6 July 2006
Warning: Spoilers
To start this film had many catching moments that really inspired me when i first saw this movie. without doubt my favorite of the rocky movies. no actor could have done a better job in this film. no actor could have made the role of Rocky more appealing to me than Stallone himself. i think it is ridiculous that a man with so much talent has been ridiculed by so many as the worst actor of the century. forget there comments on there ability to understand his voice, or there opinions on his direction in life. he has been beaten down physically in almost every major action film he has done to make it more than just another action movie. in this film he sees his best friends death at the hands of a soviet Juggernaut. falling apart knowing how much this friend had done for him he wants to avenge his fallen friend. he goes through hell and back to achieve this. he works harder than at any point in his life to avenge his friend. he gets the beating of his life, he takes blow after blow, one after the other by a raging Russian volcano but never backs down. He hits and hits him again and again relentlessly overpowered but never falters. he comes out on top and makes a moving speech of how faulty it was for the cold war to take place. i found this film as moving as any i have seen and the fight scenes make this truly a great action film. whats more of this film is how few people give this film credit or even recognize it as one of Stallones better films. i give this film a good word and i would watch this film any time i needed a little uplifting motivation. this is a good film...Hands down.

First Blood (1982)
8/10
"I't Doesn't get any better than this"
22 May 2006
There is not one part about this movie that does not rock. This is the best movie of Stallone's career as far as action goes. Nothing can compare to the over the hill mix of normal, hardcore, emotional train wreck that Stallone brings to this film. Forget fancy words, and forget fancy talk because the only words needed to describe this film..."absolutely awesome". As I sat down one night looking for a good movie I had seen this movie in the library and hundreds of rental places but had never taken the time to see the action it was supposed to bring. Finally I sat down and watched this movie and I was blown away. I had always seen Stallone as kind of a more serious actor than what people give him credit for. Once I watched this movie, there was no kind of, this is as serious as it gets. Nothing in his career compares to the over the hill in your face sock it to 'em action that Sylvester Stallone brings to First Blood. Forget drama and suspense because there is plenty of it, and if you want action well there is more than you can handle.

Of you want one movie that can bring you all the fundamentals of a good movie this is it. I think what every movie needs to succeed is this 1. a good story, 2. dramatic moments, 3. suspense, 4. and lastly good acting. well this movie brings all of this and more. It only takes a moment for this film to give you some drama. And it only takes but a moment more for the incredible acting that this film brings to finally set in. This film had such great action, great suspense, moments of everything I look for in a movie.

Cobb (1994)
10/10
The closest thing to the truth as I have seen
22 May 2006
when was in a movie rental store around the age of 8 I had no idea what in the world a movie titled Cobb could possibly be about. At that time my first thought was that it was about some horror movie slasher film in a corn field due to the dark movie cover and the cold looking man on the cover. Although the cover has changed since then I was only surprised to learn that it was about a baseball player later on in my life around the age of 15. However it was about a cold looking, and not to mention cruel acting man. It was almost scary the way this man viewed life. Almost abusively portrayed through the incredible skill of Tommy Lee Jones.

No one could have possibly played this role with enough conviction and energy as the man they cast. He was vigorous, violent, and energetic and in every way fit for this part. I disagree with another commentators comment that Robert Wuhl's character was dry and lacking. In that I also say that I saw much more in that character than most people give him credit for. This film carry's you from a wretched, sick old man in the boondocks to a wild, wary, warrior of life fighting and dominating every aspect of life that he cared to pursue. Tommy lee Jones did an incredible job at playing a hated, yet respected character in that stone cold role of Tyrus Raymond Cobb. I found this film most moving, and although at times I could not believe the wake left in his trail I had to tip my hat to a man who kept fighting right up to the last minute of his life.

I later read the biography "Cobb:a biography by Al Stump" and reading of his wild nature in that book I knew that the role had been attacked with a savage ferocity. No matter who you are don't look at this film as something to criticize, but more as something to educate yourself on a man who never gave up, and lived his life without ever giving inch without fighting for it. He set records and he turned some heads in the process.

Go into this movie with an open perspective instead of the love hate attitude that most have for films. For if a film was about you loving or hating a character or a part of a movie you might miss the whole point of the film. The point of this film clearly established that he was hated, and he owed that to no one other than himself. I was moved, wowed, amazed, and shaken by this film simply from the acting alone. it's worth watching at least once. and lastly i must say comparing this to the real story that this movie was as close to the truth of any portrayal of any life as any i have seen. ***1/2 out of *****

King Kong (2005)
6/10
I had mixed feelings for this film.
20 May 2006
I enjoyed those sentimental moments of the film, and the sensational suspense that it brought to certain scenes and likewise the acting was superb. Exceptionally that of Jack Black. however I did not enjoy the lengthy duration of this film. It took so long to finally see what you wanted to see and when you got to see what you wanted to see it was over as quickly as it began. The scenes of the real adventure were quite good but there was such a rare glimpse of Kong himself considering how much focus there was on his bride. I would not say this film is wasn't worth watching but I was disappointed at certain points of the film.

For example such a spectacular epic of a great creature should have more moments centered on the theme character. There are exceptions and very good moments with Kong but I hoped to see more of such an epic. However despite these shortcomings all in all this was a good film and great for the adventurer and a good collection of acting, adventure, and suspense. i just felt that the moments that i enjoyed were cut short as to what could have made this film so much more than it was. but i did enjoy the film in all.

Like all movies it has it's weak points but it is overall another great film from Peter Jackson. my favorite scene was the ending with the famous quote from the story of Kong, a moving scene from jack black.
