Flight 90: Disaster on the Potomac (1984)
"Be careful when you aboard a frozen airplane...."
A good reenactment of the facts of Jan.13th 1982, when AF90 sunk in the freezy Potomac river. How can an air crash change the vision of the survivors about life? We can see in this picture the workers, stewardesses, pilots and passengers amidst a strong snow storm, and the worry of some of them ,specially Joe Stiley(Stephen Macht) about the ice in the wings, and when he asks about it, nobody answers. The actitude of some survivors, as Arland Williams(Donnely Rhodes) is enough to make you understand the meaning of life in a critic situation. I think this is one of the most dramatic scenes of the movie. We see also the drama behind the rescue workers in the helicopter and the efforts to save these shocked people of a frozen river. And the special effects, in the moment when airplane starts to stall and everything falls from the roof of the plane, the safety position of Joe, Nikki Felch, Bert Hamilton and Kelly Duncan( a great play of Kathleen Wilhoite as the youngest stewardess)
This picture shows us an important lesson: You must be very crazy to aboard an airplane in a snow storm, unless you are sure you won't end your flight in an ice trap.
Network (1976)
"Nothing is more real than real life"
`Network' is the best portrait about what networks can do for getting a higher rating. Shows us the tensions and anxiety in television life, and how everybody does something to defeat the another channels. For Example: Diana Christensen* (Faye Dunaway), is an ambitious TV producer, even able to make an agreement with the Ecumenical Liberation Army( ELA), and make live shots of the terrorist activities of the group.
Howard Beale (Peter Finch), `The Mad Prophet of the airway' an old news anchorman threatened by the shadow of being fired, announces in one of the News shows , he'll kill himself in front of the camera, and making the ratings grow up, everybody were crazier than the devil with him, specially Frank Hackett ( Robert Duvall), the member of the ACC ( American Communications Complex) with the only wish to dominate this network. I think that his best scene was in his office, talking with D.C * about Howard's new show.
And finally, Max Schumacher ( William Holden), this old TV fox, who worked
in CBS with Ed Murrow and Walter Cronkite, searching for a new chance in his life, trying to protect to his old friend Howard of Hacket's shadow and having an affair with Diana, that almost destroy his marriage.
I think that the group Chayefski- Gottfried-Lumet really made an excelent job in this movie, and also that somewhere exists another Diana, another Howard, on another Frank.. `Network' is probably the most picture ever made about that crazy world that TV is.
