Absolutely best that Korean drama can offer
8 June 2022
It's easy to be hooked on Korean TV series. They are usually on the better side of entertainment with great script, thoughtful character development and good acting. This one does not make an exception but instead boosts it to the maximum with all heart and soul you could possibly imagine.

This is absolutely not the series you should watch if you are in the depressive mood although it' shines at showing how misery and.hardship can be won with right amount of.interpersonal care of your loved ones.

The character development is phenomenal. All of the characters are treated.equal with this in mind which is quite exceptional nowadays. And for those who are questioning IU.'s ability to act this is a fine showpiece that shows thet she is brilliant on it too.

The only thing that I'm wondering with all the South Korean series in general is the social awkwardness and long pauses in the.conversations. I hope it's not too much like this in reality: Otherwise we Finns are actually quite good with social situations when drinking by ourselves at the darkest corner in the bar when feeling down ;)

All in all: This series left me wanting to watch more and more of the Korean productions. Excellent stuff. Highly recommended.

Stylish and noirish remake
20 February 2022
This is a good old fashioned movie with very good first and last third. The second third drags a little bit but not too much to loose the interest.

The plot involves a killing, deception, lots of very questionnable characters and a wonderful set up in different kind of environments which all in my opinion act as a "character" themselves.

All the actors are quite good in their roles. Bradley Cooper is great in his role as a man with a shady past and greedy outcome and David Strathairn stars a very good siderole as a old mentalist in the carnival. All the other supporting actors are very good as well.

Guillermo Del Toro knows his stuff as a writer and director. The cinematography and the use of colours are beautiful (as well as camerawork in general) and costume designer has done his homework wonderfully.

The only complaint I could think of is a certain twist in the plot which is really obvious after a certain part of the story is reached. At least I could see the signs from a miles away.

At the beginning of the movie I got some flashbacks from the series "Carnivale" which I adored at the times. This is not as absurd though :)

If you like fast moving action this movie certainly isn't for you. If you however like a great oldschool like mystery with a stunning scenery, camerawork and character driven acting I certainly recommended this.

Better game based movie but not without flaws
20 February 2022
I went watching this couple of days after seeing the newest Spider Man which was a major disappointment to me.

My expectations were not very high but somehow the tides turned and I have to say I feel this movie belongs to the better half of the game based movies I have seen this far (which is of course still not very high achievement as in general as they are usually very bad).

You probably get a much more out of this if you have played the games. The pacing is a little tense for two hours as the director had to cut quite a lot from the game(s) to make this work. Some of the game worlds memorable moments were utilized in the dungeon dwelling/action sequences with a more or less changed form.

Although Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg did quite a decent job for their parts I thought they were both about 10 to 15 years too young when compared to their counterparts in the games. Same of course applied to the female characters as they had to be written to the story keeping this in mind.

Action sequences in the movie were a mixed back. They were entertaining but following today's standard in a way that cgi was sometimes used too heavily to make them look a little bit off.

Without spoiling too much the director left the door to the sequel(s) which is totally understandable as there are much more material in the games to be utilized if the movie gets enough audience.

This is certainly a movie worth watching if you like the games. It's not going to change your world or get your heart pounding with joy but is certainly a 2 hours worth of your time,

Stupid and cheap
17 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
During the movie I felt myself cheated from the first 30 minutes of teenage soap opera to the end credits.

For starters the teenage "Bold and the beautiful" part was so embarassing I was thinking about leaving the theatre.

The "Marvel Harry Potter" episode which actually started the main plot was so stupid that I felt like Patrick Steward slapping his forehead from disbelief.

Finally the multiverse idea which was partly sort of ok was way too swallow. In my opinion it was just a tool for a lazy scripwriting allowing about everything to happen on the screen without much of an explanation because "anything can happen when different universes collapse".

The movie wasn't a total disaster though. Some of the action scenes were highly entertaining and even though the multiverse plot was stupid and broken it allowed older actors to take a part to the movie.

Some claim this to be the best MCU movie ever. It is not even close: Mediocrity at it's finest definition.

Not so bad tribute to 70's giallo
19 July 2014
I finally got time to watch this movie. I ordered a German special edition blu-ray a way back but was too busy to see it until now. A negative feedback that this movie got from various sources seemed to affect my mood for watching it a little bit too much which really was a shame.

The movie itself was a little bit of a mixed bag. First 1/3 was actually quite good in terms of story and killings. In fact the actual murders were quite innovative throughout the movie. I got flashbacks from various Argento and Fulci movies throughout the film with both the style and methodology aspects included.

After a one third to first half of the film the direction and the script seemed to fall apart a little bit. The naive Argento inspired escape from the club was fascinating and boring at the same time and the plot seemed to degenerate after the movie went along. However: The latter part of the movie got me flashbacks from Argentos Tenebrae so it basically went from tribute to tribute within the movie in decades (I loved Tenebrae btw).

I really appreciate the directors effort to tribute some earlier giallo directors and movies. In my opinion some reviewers have focused too much bashing the protagonist skill of English using it to take the movie down (It really didn't mind me very much).

If you like horror and giallo in general this is a movie worth watching. IMDb users seem to be harsh with horror in particular so don't let the overall score fool you.

BTW: The "blue/red pill joke" at the end made me grin :)
