Wish (2023)
Really great
Not sure why people are being so hard on Disney lately. It's honestly strange that so many are bothered by their attempt at diversity.
The reviews for "Wish" were terrible and went so far as to accuse Disney of using AI to write it. I am so glad I didn't listen and took my kid to see it.
The film was great. Are there some clumpy dialog and song lyrics? Sure. But the story and characters are engaging, the villain is great, the animal sidekicks are adorable and the film is very fast-paced. There's a lot to love here. Honestly, a mediocre Disney film is a lot better than a good film from other studios. It's time people give Disney a break and start to appreciate the love and effort that go into their films.
I hope more people go to see "Wish" and make it the success it deserves to be.
Goosebumps (2023)
A fantastic reboot
It makes me sad that people who grew up in the 90s have a problem with the diversity of this show. The 90s were a time when we were taught about our differences and how to embrace and accept each other not in spite of, but because of them. It sickens me that so many people missed that and are still homophobic and racist for no reason. Open a book, have someone teach you how to read and educate yourselves.
As for this not being an anthology, that is a refreshing take. I am invested and I am hooked in the characters and the overarching mystery.
Have any of you watched the 90s version recently? It is not good. Sure, the nostalgia of it is fun but it's beyond cheese: it's cheese whiz. So the fact that this is different is a GOOD thing. I seriously wonder how these people function in the world. Oh no, a gay character. I must turn this off. "It's distracting." Oh no, my child is confused and asks why the characters are so weird cause he's never seen a gay person before. He's too young! Unless your child is dumb as hell, they did not ask you that "every two minutes," so chill.
For anyone who lives in this century, likes goosebumps and is able to accept that this is a modern version very different but similar to the original show, then give it a chance. Been watching with my 9 year old and we're both riveted.
The Little Mermaid (2023)
magical
I've been waiting for a live action Little Mermaid Disney adaptation since I saw the original, way before they started to crank them out.
Sure there were some disappointments: no Daughters of Triton or Les Poissons and honestly, we could have done without Eric's boring and on the nose song (why not use Her Voice from the Broadway version, which serves the same meaning? No one needs Lin Manuel in every Disney musical. He prob tired himself out and lost inspiration). The scuttlebutt was fine but unnecessary. Removing the best part of Poor Unfortunate Souls was the most tragic and unnecessary.
Most of the other changes were great: Eric's fascination with the sea, his adoption by the king and queen after his parents die in a shipwreck, changing the setting to a Caribbean island since the original also had that flavor.
The controversy and criticisms are unwarranted. This is one of the better Disney live action films, especially when it recreates the scenes of the original. It's a gorgeous and romantic film.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: He Said, She Said (2019)
Eek what's with all the sexual harassers in the comments?
Did this episode trigger you?
If so, be better and do better.
This was a pretty strong episode in line with the rest of the fantastic series.

They/Them (2022)
Fun little slasher for those with an open mind
I finally watched this with my daughter after months of wanting to. We expected the worst based on these reviews but were pleasantly surprised. The film was fun and entertaining. It wasn't overly bloody, which was a relief for me. We loved the teenage characters and rooted for them.
I understand the pacing was a bit off for a slasher film but when the killing finally started, we were relieved the camp employees were the victims and not the campers. It's satisfying to see despicable people get what they deserve.
We enjoyed the entire film, including the teen drama, and felt the pacing was just right. Really sad about the dog though.
Glass Onion (2022)
Overlong mess
After the terrific Knives Out, I looked forward to Glass Onion but didn't rush to it because of the run time. As I suspected, the film was 45 minutes too long and at the end, it all just felt kinda meh. I hated that it was set during lockdowns because it added zero to the plot except for making the film longer than it had to be. I kept asking myself why? It was incredibly unnecessary and served zero purpose.
Nothing happens for over an hour then someone dies and we get an overlong explanation of the plot before the mystery is solved. There's no intrigue, no guessing. Nothing happens, something happens then it's immediately explained.
The whole thing feels like a messy, overlong, boring predictable mess. Friends told me not to bother. I should have listened. Hopefully the third film will be better.
Heathers: The Musical (2022)
Fun to revisit
I saw this off-broadway so long ago and it sort of just disappeared until my daughter suddenly heard about it through tik-tok and it gained popularity even beyond its original run. The show had been fun but unmemorable at the time. Revisiting it reminded me why I liked it so much to begin with. Do I love that the dead teens become ghosts (or figments of Veronica's guilt) to keep the actors on stage? No. But everything else about it works. It's fun and fast-paced, although I gotta admit, the commercials ruin it. Roku should advertise this more. Based on the number of reviews and ratings, no one is watching.
The Marshmallow Mystery Tour (2021)
So much fun
This film is an entertaining, Informative and very fast-paced treat. Loads of fun. I hope it sees a release outside of film festivals because it deserves an audience.
The Cutting Edge (1992)
What is this!???
Trying to watch this but it's one jarring and grating music montage after another. Is this even a movie or a bad student production? Don't understand all the positive reviews.
