The Buccaneers (2023)
Better than Bridgerton!
I really liked it, at first I thought it was going to be a cheesy quirky knock of of bridgerton, but I was wrong. This was much more real and relatable. Sure there's the English notability but not all just balls and elaborate money. You see the coldness and toxicity and abuse. Also watching this, especially episode 4, as a mother I wept, episode 5 as a woman I related but was also empowered by the truths and how far we've come, after that, every episode blew me away. I hadn't known of the novel or the 1995 mini series so the ending was a complete surprise. I was at the edge of my seat not knowing what was going to happen. I'm so glad for the changes they've made so far and I can't wait for season 2. If you like time pieces, definitely watch this one.
The Artifice Girl (2022)
Very Good!
Despite this movie being such a low budget film, the acting is great and causes you to ask yourself questions that are morally grey. Like saving many children from exploitation by exploiting a single child forever type of thing. I love movies where no one is all good or all bad. The movie is only shot in 3 locations with only 4 actors, but over the course of 50 years. With chat gpt and ai getting more and more advanced, I can see how this might be our future. The movie definitely causes you to think about what that means for the ever evolving ai who we demand learn how to be a human while we disregard what it means to be human. Great movie. The only reason I didn't give it 10 stars is because I wish it had more story and a higher budget but that's only because I want more of it.
The Changeling (2023)
I want to like it but...
Like I was excited because it seemed like creepy fairies but we are in episode 8 and I still can't tell you wtf this is about. Generational family trauma I guess with a creepy possibly fantasy take but not confirmed. I couldn't even finish episode 7 (or 8) the one all about the grandma. Like I don't even know what's going on. It has a good concept but just really bad execution. I'm debating whether or not I need to know how this story ends. They introduce new characters but then they are gone by next episode. It's not scary but a little creepy with a whole lot of confusion. I don't even know who the protagonist and antagonists are. I wish I hadn't started it.
The Last Thing He Told Me (2023)
Starts off good... ends abruptly
Honestly, to me this seemed like a high speed car chase that ends just getting to McDonald's for a plain burger. There is no closure with the husband, no true back story to WHY the clients haunt him, what happened with the security company, where he got money, who was mole at marshalls office. Candle burnt so fast half way through leaving us with only half the story. It's like the writer meant for the story to only be about the step mom and daughter bonding and didn't care about every other loose end flying in the wind. There's a 2 min "5 years later" at the very end that's just lame and gives you nothing except the daughter calling her mom. 5 out of 10 don't waste your time.
Moonhaven (2022)
I loved it
Im not sure why people have given it one star. We binged it all in one weekend. The acting is supposed to be extreme. Earthers are extremely dark and violent and hopeless and mooners are supposed to be blissful innocent hippies. If that's you're problem then you're not getting the point of the show. I thought it was very entertaining and very twisty and creative. I can't wait for season 2 so we can explore these characters more. I have a feeling most of this is not what it seems.
It's got decent well known actors, great special effects and amazing views. I think if anyone watches the whole first season then there's no way to not like it. Even the concept is great.it's already been picked up for season two and the finale leaves it with clear path for so much more story. I can't wait and I would totally recommend this watch. It reminded me of Matt Damon's Elysium.
Keep Breathing (2022)
Had potential but had no ending
I watched it the whole way only to be able to see what happens to her and baby. Never happened. Waste of time. Why lead you and make viewers invest in her survival if you never get to see it.
