The Last Full Measure (2019)
Flawed by inaccuracies.
This is a very moving movie based on the story of a real life hero. William Pitsenbarger actually did the heroic things depicted in the film and the events portrayed in Vietnam are reasonably accurate.
It is therefore, in my view, unforgivable that the story of the fight to have his valor recognized is largely bunkum. Scott Huffman never existed and the suggestion of a cover up preventing the award of the medal has no basis on fact.
What's particularly galling is that the historian who actually fought on his behalf, Parker Hayes, is not acknowledged at all.
I find it baffling that the writer would butcher reality to such an extent.
Station Eleven (2021)
Extraordinary
I'm so glad I stuck with this after the first episode. It begins slowly but then captivates you with its unique story.
This really isn't the sort of programme I normally watch but I love Mackenzie Davies in Halt and Catch Fire so I gave it a watch.
To say it draws you in is an understatement. The acting is top quality throughout the cast and as the story slowly reveals itself it's almost impossible to stop watching. I watched the final 5 episodes in one viewing.
It's a complex narrative so I found I had to avoid other distractions like my phone and give it my full attention. I'm so glad I did.
Justified: City Primeval (2023)
An insult to the memory of Elmore Leonard
This is shockingly bad. It's difficult to understand how this got past the planning stage. The acting is stunted. The daughter character is unnecessary and so badly acted that it's almost painful to watch.
Compared to the original series it's like a crayon drawing compared to a Michelangelo.
I don't understand why Timothy Olyphant would get involved with this disaster.
There's none of the clever dialogue of the books or the original series. The characters are one dimensional and the acting is appalling.
The only reason that I can figure that this was greenlit is that Elmore Leonard's estate is cashing in. He's turning in his grave.
