Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
Complete nonsense.
Jabba the Hun, Dr. Evil's volcano lair, Thousand year old Atlantian technology that is better than current one. Bad script, poorly developed back stories and endless "action" that doesn't make you care for the outcome. The humour falls flat or there wasn't any humour, it's actually hard to tell. CGI goes from really bad to barely acceptable. The opening scene had me wondering if I was watching a cartoon. Put it all together and you end up with very little. Aquaman is much better suited for a secondary role as in the justice league. DC lacks overall direction and cohesiveness. There's no more to say.
The Six Million Dollar Man: H+2+O = Death (1976)
Another contradictory premise
The device project is a dud because they don't have a small enough power supply but Steve's arm power unit makes it work. Steve has 3 such units and so does Jamie and the car driver has 4 but somehow they can't make another. The episode itself is standard fare. A pretty lady, some bad guys and some silly dialog. Still an enjoyable watch with all the usual bionic tomfoolery. Now it seems I must go on for two hundred characters or so to satisfy some inane criteria. Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore-
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door-
Only this and nothing more."
Babylon (2022)
Steaming pile of anachronistic surreal nonsense
Whether the writer thinks himself clever for this vacuous experience or for having people believe there is meaning in his disjointed imagery is unclear. Either way this pompous, self indulgent exercise is a composition of unoriginal ideas and outright plagiarism. Dialog from a variety of films is incorporated into the script. Recognizable but distorted scenes are sewed throughout. Sometimes it seems the purpose is comedy, sometimes it seems the intent is to blatantly mock the source material. Neither effect is achieved. There are much better ways to spend 3 hours. A two star raring, one for each of it's two star.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: All Those Who Wander (2022)
Why Gorn?
The gorn were slow strong humanoid reptilians. If the writers of this series didn't find them interesting then don't use them. Make up a new name for this new species. A species that could not have evolved to develop space travel since they attack each other right after birth until only one survives. In fact they would have made themselves instantly extinct.
That aside there are many overtly silly aspect to this episode as has been innumerates by other reviewers.
The series certainly is a grand improvement over Discovery but even with all its flaws the original series stands head and shoulders above it.
The Batman (2022)
Makes you appreciate the 60s show
There's a lot of worst packed into a single movie;
Worst Alfred
Worst Bruce Wayne
Worst Batmobile
Worst Riddler
Worst head coverings (both Batman and Catwoman)
Worst multiple quasi endings
Worst Batcave entrance (goes down stairs with batcycle, how doe the car get out?)
Worst riddles.
Worst investigative talents.
Worst weather.
The movie is 2 hours and 47 minutes too long. And to make it seem longer, there is no humor at all.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Watchable despite awful writing
The Bad:
After 60 years , why did WW decide to reveal herself?. The Bad guy is presented as a complete loser, so how did he know about the crystal and that it was in a hidden back room of a specific jewelry store? Also His company's head quarters are way to big and upscale for a scam. So is his TV presence. The kid is simply awful. Mostly due to bad acting, bad writing and bad direction. Wiig's character is too cliché. How can the boss not remembre hiring her a week ago. Everybody gets only one whish, except Wiig. "I want to be an apex predator somehow translates into a half human half cheetah. Cheetah is only in one battle scene. Museums don't keep vintage aircraft fueled and ready to go. That aircraft does not have the range to reach Cairo. WW is supposed to lose her powers gradually, Instead it's completely irregular. No reason for Trevor to come back as someone else, this is a magical crystal, he could have been plucked out of the past. WW sees the base of the crystal on the desk and leaves it there while expressing how dangerous it is. WW does not fly like Superman. There is way too much reliance on the lasso. The resolution is too much of a kumbaya moment. Other nonsense that escapes me at the moment.
The Good:
Gal Gadot shines as both WW and Diana. Chris Pine is a perfect Trevor. Gal and Chris together are magical. The opening on Themiscyra is wonderful. Most of the action scenes are well done. Even with a running time of two and a half hours the movies goes by quite quickly.
Overall it's watchable and enjoyable, but barely.
