True Detective: Night Country: Part 6 (2024)
So dull I feel violated
HBO has always been a cut above all other networks in my opinion. Well not anymore. I saw the wheels starting to fall off when they were hyping their zombie disaster "The Last of Us" which was a decade too late for any interest in the undead. And now a True Detective with no noticeable plot. I don't know much about Issa Lopez but she seems to be the most boring storyteller ever born. There is no point where True Detective Night Country is ever interesting. No point to get engaged in the story. No dynamic characters. It just feels like waiting and waiting and then a bunch of indigenous women attack and then it's over. All of my favorite movie and tv characters are women. So it has nothing to do with being women and everything to do with being boring women. What a terrible waste of time.
Katla (2021)
Well done
Well Iceland might just be the coolest looking place on earth. And it looks nothing like earth. Totally gorgeous shots. As an American I didn't realize that when Icelandic people speak with Swedish people they speak English. I watched with subtitles but half of this series is in English anyway. I loved it. No punches pulled is a massive understatement. This is not a series an American network would put on the air. Even Netflix put up warnings and helplines. Which completely act as spoilers so maybe turn your head to the side before each episode. Good watch.
The Thing About Pam (2022)
Why was this necessary?
The Dateline episodes were great. This is dragging sludge. I can actually feel that network stretch happening in real time, chipping away at my soul. Zellweger was atrocious. Duhamel was pretty good. But this didn't need to happen.
Wormwood (2017)
Good information just too long
Would've been a much higher rating if it was a 2 hour special. In fact my only complaints are the length of time, and that you can receive a PhD from Harvard for making collages. The actors were great and so was the production. Just needed to be more concise.
The Vast of Night (2019)
Stunned
How is this the only work of this director? His instincts are among the best I've ever seen. The story is fine, actually pretty good. But the way he tells the story is the story. He's incredibly skilled. The first thing I did after I watched it was watch it three more times. Not a joke.
Master (2022)
Starts flat and flattens out from there
WOW what a waste of time. Looks like they spent some money on it too. Purchasing a script would have been a positive move. It just ends. Without ever really starting. A movie of incomplete and disorganized writer's notes. Boooo.
