Shameless (2011)
Started strong; ended with US political opinions
I loved the show in the beginning. The scripts literally were word for word straight from the original UK version.
As the years went on, instead of a character arc that was interesting; it went in a straight line down.
The last season was nothing but a political diatribe that was indeed shameless. Unless you support one particular political party.
The only opposing view was Frank's; which was a meaningless gesture as he was the career alcoholic and drug addict, addled with wet brain.
Sorry, but you did like so many other shows and lost your way. Thinking it was the entertainment industry's job to shove unwanted political opinions down the throats of people who came to simply be entertained!
Passing (2021)
Had casting been subjective to "passing" only; it should have been recast.
The entire subject of this movie is predicated on black women who were light skinned enough to "pass" as white women before we were an integrated society.
Having been born into a biracial family, I know what my grandparents went through, as well as my mom and uncles. All because my grandparents loved each other!
I was born white, with blonde hair and green eyes. Some of my cousins look like we couldn't possibly be blood related; yet we are!
Long story short; the casting of this film could have been more representative of what "passing" could really look like. My mom looked just like her mom and her brothers, just like their dad.
I don't feel in reality, Rene would have have "passed" as white. Even with the film being shot in black and white, it doesn't come across.
This is not a reflection on the director, the actors or anything except casting choices.
New Amsterdam (2018)
It was good when it started
I liked this show when it first aired. Once it started becoming political; I stopped watching. I watch TV to be entertained, not to have politics, (especially someone else's political point of view) shoved in my face.
The Walking Dead (2010)
Started out strong...then...
I've struggled to stay with this show. I liked the earlier seasons. Season 10 is the worst yet! Does anyone else feel as if Samantha Morton, (Alpha) got her southern accent from watching Vivien Leigh in "A Streetcar Named Desire" over and over??
The Walking Dead: Save the Last One (2011)
Shane is evil!
I see a lot of inconsistencies with just little things so far in this series. However, in this episode, why the heck didn't Shane just shoot Otis in the head instead of the leg?
The walkers would still eat Otis. He was like a fresh buffet!
I understand character arcs and development, but that made no sense. Unless Shane wanted Otis' dying screams to keep the Walkers in distracted and busy.
Copperhead (2013)
Historically Inaccurate
Anyone who has ever studied TRUE history or taken the time to actually research how party lines voted will barely be able to make it through this plodding, sad, farce of a movie.
The only valid point it might make is it's actual, current reflection of tensions existing right now. What I hope might be gleaned is that history unfortunately tends to repeat itself. Civil war was a horrible solution then as it would be now.
Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party (2016)
Real History
This documentary was was a real eye opener. As a person well versed in history, it was good to see all of the information in this context.
Mankind as a whole, is guilty of rewriting history to suit his narrative. We see this in recently discovered scrolls that appear to have been meant for the Bible, and in archeological digs revealing clues about civilizations, now known to be far more advanced than we previously thought possible.
This documentary shows how the Democratic party was founded. It discusses the earliest members, their party's beliefs, historical votes, true, actual, undisputed FACTS about the Democratic party. Much of which has been watered down, lost, buried, rewritten or glossed over to suit the modern day Democratic narrative.
What is the goal of every high profile Democrat running for office? You MUST watch this and find out. Your opinion should never be the same again...
The Crown (2016)
Loved it...until Season 3
I awaited the premier of Season 3 with baited breath; until I began watching. My disappointment had nothing to do with the complete change in cast. I thought Olivia Coleman, Tobias Menzies and Helena Bonham Carter picked up magnificently where Claire Foy, Matt Smith and Vanessa Kirby left off.
My disappointment was with the stodgy, uninspired scripts. With the exception of episodes 3, 9 and 10, I gritted my teeth and kept watching; just to make sure I wasn't missing anything of great importance.
While I understand the need to portray significant moments in history, I believe the writers missed the mark. I can't speak for all, but this viewer is more interested in the back story of the RF. They skipped over the pregnancy and birth of Prince Edward entirely and picked up the storyline when Andrew and Edward were young boys. They did try to give substance to the relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Anne, which provided some of the more interesting material in Season 3, (Anne's alleged role in the Charles, Camilla and Andrew Parker Bowles relationships).
I also enjoyed watching the interaction between the Queen and PM Harold Wilson. The scene when he disclosed his personal preferences and behaviors vs. those of the public's perception of him as the leader of the Labour Party and how he and the Queen were in similar positions, per se.
While episode 3 was particularly emotional, it took until episodes 9 and 10 to really get moving and be as entertaining and engaging as Seasons 1 and 2 were throughout.
Let's hope Season 4 starts off with a bang before the series loses some of its devoted audience.
Prank Encounters (2019)
Inconsiderate Premise!
I watched about 60 seconds of the first episode of this show. As a parent who has lost a child, there is absolutely ZERO to joke about with that topic.
I love a good prank, but it is obvious that a child or an adult with a sophmoric IQ came up the idea. I actually got sick to my stomach and turned it off. I won't watch another episode.
If I could give it a zero, I would. Someone, please give tactful guidance to an otherwise talented young person!
