The Dark Knight (2008)
One of Ledger's last performances turns out to be his most memorable.
When my friend and I walked out after one hundred and fifty minutes of pure genius we were speechless and cheered as soon as Ledger's name came on the screen. No one could have portrayed our lovable fiend, The Joker, better than Heath Ledger. The casting director did the best job that I have seen in ages and I could not have asked for a better movie to come out on my 17th birthday. Needless to say as soon as the plot twists and turns that came about did, my favorite movie had changed once more. I believe it will be a long while before it is changed once again. Children under the age of 12 will find this movie horrifying, somewhat confusing and disturbing. There are acts of extreme violence that may cause nightmares. Cynical, sadistic, and masochistic humor is the status quo in this production. They captured all characters well. And the movie led you into believing just as the director wanted, no matter how many movies of the same genre you have seen. "Quid ita seriam?"
Cloverfield (2008)
Cloverfield, worth the hype?
Surprisingly, yes! With this to say, this movie lived up to all the hype made of it. The adrenaline rushes from this movie stays with you for about an hour afterwords. This movie is shown as a video tape, nothing more and nothing is explained, however JJ Abrahams has done a wonderful job. He has succeeded where few have gone as monsters come. He has shown the monster's features, what it can do, and how it does it, but still contained the fear factor within the monster. This is a wondrous movie, definitely worth seeing, renting afterwords, and also buying to watch again and again. With the greatness of this movie, and it's almost inevitable high grossing weekend- I smell a sequel!
P.S. Did anyone else notice that there seemed to be two separate monsters? (it may be just me, but it seemed as if I saw one with some features, and then another afterwords with different ones.)
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
Sweeney Todd? Sweeney Fraud.
Absolutely awful. I am so sorry, I had hopes that this would be somewhat good. BUT IT WAS TERRIBLE! I thought when I heard "lots of blood" I figured that even if it were a drop it would be a tiny bit realistic, instead of...RED PAINT! *gasp* Songs were sang, but people with voices could have voiced over or better yet, could have picked different actors. STOP CASTING CARTER IN MOVIES, SHE CANNOT ACT!!
The song that everyone who knows Sweeney Todd by, The Ballad of Sweeney Todd, was not sang, nor shown. I hoped for it, while fighting to keep my eyes open, a basic two hours before seeing that it was not in the credits.
This movie, overall, was a complete failure to the Broadway Musical. Yes, Depp fans, bitch and moan at me all you want, I do not care.
Burton, maybe you should attempt to stray away for a tiny bit from Depp and Carter, yeah?
I Am Legend (2007)
Oh my!
Well, I've never read the book. So,I can't be sure how good the movie is according to the book. However, I was impressed by the acting. As far as I've seen, this is Will Smith's first thriller move. I, Robot was not a thriller. So don't tell me that. I was happy with the movie, however the ending could have been better. Such as, I think... Ana and Ethan crawl out of the fire grate after daybreak, Ana holds out the vial of the female's blood (who I have so fondly dubbed Lisa). And the camera pans over the remnants of the house, and The Infected, the head Infected (fondly dubbed Bob) has is mouth open in a silent scream. His eyes snap open and his so wonderful scream sounds, while the vile is dropped at this sudden sound. The vial shatters.
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Brilliant!!
This is one of the movies that I had heard of but had never really wanted to see, now with the upcoming release of Hannibal Rising...I had figured that I would watch it. Let me say that it was just now that I finished Silence of the Lambs, and I moved directly onto Hannibal, the sequel. Can anyone tell me if Manhunter or something like that (an 80s movie) is an installment to this series? It seems like it would be, but I've stumbled upon many that have the same kind of title, or the same characters that have absolutely nothing to do with the intended film (i.e. Halloween II) Aside from my banter chat, I believe this movie was excellent and I regret not wanting to watch it earlier. I think I will add this movie to one of my Favorites, if not my number 1. I am pleased that this movie has gotten such a high rating. Thank you for proving faithful, IMDb.
Saw III (2006)
SAW 3..I am enthralled.
This movie, to say the least was awesome. As horrifyingly sick and twisted as I hoped it would be. The traps were new, improved, and sickening. And that's what makes it SAW. Not to see if you are easily disturbed, squeamish..etc. If you have a certain fear that has to do with a certain body part..It's going to happen in this movie. Like, I have a thing with people's feet getting hurt. Both of these guy's Achilles tendons were run through with rings that he had to rip off, as well as his wrists, calves, forearms, shoulder blades etc...None of these bugged me so much as the feet did. Another guy had his feet bolted to the ground. The story ties together well, and the plot turns don't end, HOWEVER
You MUST, absolutely MUST see Saw 1 and 2 before watching this or the plot line will leave you completely lost as to the final test and who Amanda is. This is definitely a go see again film. If anyone would like to go see it with me, then please, make the date.
Saw 3: 8 out of 10. Traps, deaths, plots. Horrifyingly sadistic, and loved every bit of it.
Tagline: "Pain: It's part of the puzzle. Blood: It's the price of freedom. Death: It's not that easy. Suffering: You haven't seen anything yet."
The Grudge 2 (2006)
Grudgingly bad?
The Grudge 2...Let's see. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Japanese Horror Film or Horror or Grudge basher. I loved the first one and the Original Ju-On. I feel that much more justice could have been done for this one. Aubrey only existed to fill in what needed to be 'discovered' in the ending, (which if you've already seen Ju-On before this, you already know the whole movie) all it was really was a complete remake of Ju-On, just more closely followed than The Grudge. Though everyone may have thought that it's coming to America was a bit interesting, it was expected as the house burning in the end of The Grudge left the 2nd hungering for a new plot.
Save your $6.50 and wait for this to come out on DVD, rent it, watch it, then decide if you want to buy it. This movie is good for a fall asleep at 2 in the morning film. But overall, I'd say a 4 out of 10. Sorry Grudge fans, it's just...They just failed at this one.
The Omen (2006)
The Anti-Christ is born.
This movie really is awesome. It had me on the edge of my seat and I didn't want it to end! Normally I critic movies very harshly and this was just incredible! It followed the story of the 70s Omen very closely but it was very interesting. As a horror/thriller buff I don't normally jump out of my seat, I laugh. But this one had me jump a foot in the air! Very very interesting. I loved this movie. 10 out of 10!! <3 This movie had to do a lot with the Vatican and about the Roman Empire. I feel that when they mentioned the Roman Empire and the birth of the Anti-Christ, I believed that they were going to mention Emperor Nero, who was in fact the first Anti-Christ as believed by the Vatican. During a scene in the beginning of the movie, a gas truck crashed in Rome and covered the street with gas. A cigarette was thrown out and a fire started. Emperor Nero started a fire in Rome in 64 AD in the Circus Maximus which is very close to the Colesium (which was not up in the time that the fire that Nero started burned Rome) which is where the gas fire started in the movie. I hope you find this review useful in your choice of viewing The Omen (2006)
