I agree with the positive reviews, the only thing I thought was distracting at first was that the copy I saw was in color. If you turn off saturation and view the movie in black and white, it is perfect in its recreation of lighting, mood and effects. There were a few scenes I thought were really funny, but this is not a spoof or a comedy, it is a genuine recreation of a monster movie you would see in the 50s.
Before I turned off the saturation, I thought the beginning scene was too clean and obviously computer generated. I rewatched it with the color removed and it looked much more authenticate. The only other criticism I have (a small one) is that the fonts also are obviously too modern. A slightly distorted overlay would have suited the era better.
