True to 50s Sci Fi / Horror
1 August 2023
I agree with the positive reviews, the only thing I thought was distracting at first was that the copy I saw was in color. If you turn off saturation and view the movie in black and white, it is perfect in its recreation of lighting, mood and effects. There were a few scenes I thought were really funny, but this is not a spoof or a comedy, it is a genuine recreation of a monster movie you would see in the 50s.

Before I turned off the saturation, I thought the beginning scene was too clean and obviously computer generated. I rewatched it with the color removed and it looked much more authenticate. The only other criticism I have (a small one) is that the fonts also are obviously too modern. A slightly distorted overlay would have suited the era better.

Near Future Very Realistic
17 October 2021
The thing that impressed me the most is how realistic the future technology is. Very creepy in a Black Mirror way. It was a little slow, but NO WAY is it a 3.3 which is what the score is as I am writing this. I think that most people may see this as a love story, and this is how it seems at the beginning. But my interpretation of this movie is that technology is the antagonist here. No one can just live their life without someone interfering, and even though the message appears to be love will find a way in any circumstance, I see the real message is that technology that interferes by rewriting our past can cause a lot of pain and sorrow.

Don't believe the bad reviews unless...
9 November 2019
I was so surprised by the low review score, and I thought this deserved at least a 7 from the general consensus. Warning - if you thought that Arrival was a good movie, then you will probably not like this (I would give Arrival a 2 at most). On the other hand, if you are technically minded and intellectual, then you would probably like this movie. One thing I hate in movies is how they try to explain things in dialog for stupid people, and I would have given this movie 9 if they didn't do it in two places. One was when they had to explain triangulation, which is completely unnecessary because they don't explain any other technologies in detail. Anyone with knowledge of how technology really works would not need that explanation, and if you needed that explained to you would have stopped watching the movie well before that. The technology may not have been 100% accurate, but makes sense in a "Star Trek" way, in which the underlying technical concepts are correct. This is one of the few movies I could watch all the through in one sitting. I have seen a lot of low budget movies, and this one is far superior.
