Kottayam Kunjachan 2 Revamped
24 May 2024
It has all the elements that reveal it is Kottayam Kunjachan 2's story reworked with a 2004 film Black's flavor. There were two segments of comedy in the film that I really liked, one was Jose's first entry and forced exit from the bank, and how the revelation of Iron Man's death makes Jose's mother cry. I believe, if Marvel gets a tape of it, Bindu Panicker might get hired for the reboot. I don't know whether the last English dialogue she says in the film was from the franchise or not, if it was, it would have been a bit more fun. Other than these, it's just a regular formula of well known and older South Indian action films. It might not even take much effort to do a Pulimurugan and Jose combination film as a sequel. There is ample space for that. However, I do not get why everyone is after sequels and prequels. Maybe, it's because there is an industry report that says doing it brings more profit in filmy business, cause it seems like some actors are giving dates for doing consecutive films for a certain rate. Someone with investigative journalism skills should unravel the reason behind it. I don't think it is necessary to do sequels and prequels to every films that has a median to high success rate. A curious thing that I felt was about the flat that was used in the film, it gave me a familiar feel of the one used in the film Monster, maybe it's because backstory of the leads in both cases were revealed in Kitchen, I don't know. Anyhow, I would have simply preferred seeing Kottayam Kunjachan and his rowdyism, the low-brow kind that was seen in Thuruppugulan. Also, there is only one Jose Ettayi, and that was Biju Menon. So, I don't know. I don't think money is a problem for these super- and mega- stars, but hearing them say that they cannot live without films, and wearing dresses that doesn't match their age makes me worry about their mental make-up and status.

A simple film that might have been suffocated to death
20 April 2024
First of all, the film was okay to watch, however, not that exhilarating but it maintained 2023 film, Vela's pacing. Some say clues were simple, but often to connect them and to make it sensible is what defines this specific genre, like the Professor T, tv-series. A thing I liked about the film was that Jomol was brought back, someone should have taken that initiative years ago. It was a very appreciative thing, and I hope to see her more. Thing's I didn't like, the promotion interviews, I heard him saying he had chances to go into Hindi films, and he didn't choose it. I believe, he has to cut back on building a superstar image, and be just an actor, cause at that he has been doing well, but taking such an idiotic path by himself won't help him. Second, the negative image, and whatever he himself and others are trying to make him, a semi-militant religious figure, I have seen posts were people are asking to not support releasing his films at certain places due to those reasons, it is going to be bad for him, if it is not stopped. Like pouring oil to fire, some are saying this is a super hero film like his previous film that was based on religion, while the truth is, it is about super hero complex, and finding meaning of life through it. He has to follow Vineeth Sreenivasan's diplomatic style around these matters. Third, story inconsistency, if the police knew the person, they could have done what all cinematic police would do, so that did not sit well with me. Character depiction, he himself hasn't accepted his fate, and that is the root of his anger, but to enhance his superstar image, he made the statement he has accepted his situation and others have not. That kind of meddled with the narrative, and it wasn't needed at all. Otherwise, it's a passable film. Since, there were 3 films that released together, I would also like to mention here what I thought of the other two ones as well, and what I felt the overall state of them were. Varshangalkku Sesham, was a film that it's first half did not connect with me, and the fact that Kalyani was included made it very, very cringey. Though, Vineeth saved the film through the second half with his creative script writing, especially through placement of elements and what would reels feeding audience would like to see. Overall, the second half felt like an attempt to save the film at any cost, but it was enjoyable. Moreover, it showcases Vineeth's deeper understanding of human and social psyche, even though he hasn't openly revealed about it, his works ascertains it. I loved how he trolled the Big Boss screaming star, the fact that their are sane souls who can do it, makes me feel calm. I liked Shaan Rahman's acting and role, and want to see him in more films, it seemed like he has a talent for it. I liked Dhyan's and Pranav's acts as oldies rather than their depiction of younger selves. Pranav consistently reminded me of Bharat Gopy, more than Murali Gopi to an extend that reminded me of Jagathy's dialogue in Yoddha, where he says his mother did not give him "tea".... Dhyan's almost crying scene reminded me of how Mohanlal mocked Sreenivasan's character in Udayanaanu Tharam, I felt like there was some sort of truth revealing there, and an unintentional sarcasm. About, Avesham, I felt a better title would have been "the good goon/goonda" like "good unni," and I believe without the last sequence, the film would have been a box-office flop if people where there to seriously criticize such a silly film. It did not have any solid value base, like a strong internal dynamics or that internal setup between characters like in Romacham, cause in it story was said from that substrate, and I believe that is what made people connect with it. Fahadh has already proven that he is the king of depicting eccentric characters, so nothing special there, he delivered what was expected of him, but I wish to see him not typecasted. The only positive thing about the film was seeing the Ambaan character, and he strongly reminded me of Baiju Ezhupunna. Overall, these 3 films felt like they were just passable, and since it was three different genres, people did have the opportunity to see whatever they felt like. The box office numbers also made me wonder how people are finding money to see them all three. Somehow, there is a steady flow of wealth despite the inflation and lack of quality jobs and pay.

Puppy love reimagined with youths.
11 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
First of all the film isn't boring at all. It might not be relatable for working age youths cause this film would be too cute for them, but perfect for hopeless romantic's at school's, and maybe to an extent for college students.

Naslen who started doing support roles like Dileep through this film might have finally become another main role actor in the industry. Naslen has done his homework very well to establish it well. The moment's where he shows his shyness reminds me as copied from the late actor Innocent, the moment's where he shows his shamelessness and playfulness reminded me of the much younger hustler-type Mohanlal. There were moments of him that reminded me of Dileep's certain reactions to situations in films, and Tovino's when it became a matter of saying things straight but with a Naslen touch. So, he is putting in his effort in creating an appeal with the audience. Mamita was able to convey her role and express the required emotions very well, however, I felt she should have done more to top it, cause it felt very subdued and lacked that bursting energy. She also needs to take care of herself when the truth is that the older actresses in the industry are trying very hard to capture youth. Shyam Mohan, a person whom I haven't seen before or remember seeing in films through this one has definitely become a recognisable actor with the richness of the character he embodied, and I would like to see him in more star-studded films to see if he could give more competitive acting. Sangeeth Prathap also did a recognisable role. Unfortunate casting, and people who had nothing to perform were Meenakshi and Mathew, both of them were added as fillers and it wasn't required for the film. Someone new should have been given the chance, just to expand the roster of actors in the industry. Meenakshi shouldn't have agreed to it, cause it was a role where she wasn't even able to channel her energy into the character.

For me from the moment Devaragam 2.0 was performed, a happy kind of cringe came over me. A very common characteristic of Naslen films. Film is a simple puppy love story, and people who are in it are able to do it in their own terms and freedom is what makes it into a whole story. Only objection that I have is that the Sachin character was going to U. K., a place where no one sensible would go for their studies anymore. I don't know if it would have been more romantic or not if Sachin didn't board the plane. The film could have released with two versions, I believe something like that has been done before, but it was a long time ago. So, there was an opportunity for it in this film.

Overall, it's an enjoyable watch, so I do recommend watching it now through theaters or later through streaming services. A very family friendly film.

One of the top donghua's with visionary animator's
7 February 2024
This is one of the top donghua's that adds an extra layer of animation compared to other ones. The animator's successfully gives microexpression's to characters, and it enhances the quality of narrative that the story drives through the characters. I don't think many does it, maybe I have seen two more teams that does it for certain portions of an episode but it's very rare, and I am unsure whether my memory is right about it. All donghua's tell somewhat the same story with little tweaks, so this one is not that bad in that aspect. For me the fun lies in the levelling-up, procuring skills and items, and breaking the rules and statuses of existing clout's, etc. The beginning was a drag, but from then on it's keeping-up a pace that is considered industry standard.

BEWARE of all the marketing attempts. A film that lost focus in story-telling and has made bad directorial decisions.
28 January 2024
There is a limitation to what Mohan-ji can do at his age, he is no Sammo Kam or Ma Dong to showcase flexibility at this age with his body. That needs to be accepted. Another aspect that needs to be accepted is that no one wants to see Mohan-ji or any other actor for the sake of seeing them, what people like is seeing the act of an actor and the craft of story telling, and it is not like it used to be in the past where a bunch of losers chose to be fans of certain figures cause they themselves can't reach to such a success and social reach that film stars do, so they gave-up their identity and took their idol's victory as theirs, and those fools were used well to make money in return for some share of something that didn't matter much. About the film, the film is in no way meant for children, language is not appropriate, the lascivious theme is not appropriate, etc, it was an attempt to turn it into an epic but sadly failed, so now it is marketed or retagged as a film for children told by an elderly woman, and it is ironically fitting too, cause the pacing and inconsistencies would remind one of a story-telling attempt made by an elderly person who doesn't have all their faculties together due to their age. Tinu is one of the top-tier **ll**it pusher's of this time, most of his recent films are not worth the hype, Mohan-ji's intro scene was one of the worst intro scenes I have seen in recent times, at first I thought Mohan-ji had corn's disease like Mala Aravindan's character in Meesa Madhavan, Mullani Pappan. What a joke. The initial impression, I had about the film was that it was set in a post-apocalyptic Kerala, and it is a film where water world meets the good, the bad and the ugly. The theme song reminded me of the second one, and the very poor conditions of the world and the extraordinary power and fight stances Mohan-ji made me think of the first one, I thought he had some mutation, cause the first fighter also seemed to have made extraordinary feats, a mutation that only some people of this world have. Then after seeing the old depiction of Presidency armies and a Dune plot element, I threw that notion away, then seeing Mohan-ji blind, I thought okay, this could be about the Guru film theme and someone will throw him the Illama fruit, but that was not it. The battle scene that happened right after it was the most idiotic one that I have ever laid my eyes upon, people with swords and sticks fighting people with rifles and knives at it's end, and yet people with guns lost. After the fight, Mohan-ji's character who eyes many woman across the land, who has free housing and income source at places where he is considered as their heroic protector, and has a given wife in those places whines about not having anywhere to go or anyone to go back-it was one of LJP's brilliance that doesn't plan to impress anyone with logic. Another thing about this world is men have a slow rate of hair growth, the guy who played as a tv-series kind of villain isn't able to grow his hair and beard, even after weeks of it being shaved, that was kind of irritating to look at. The only positive about the film was the beginning action scene copied from Shanghai Noon and the ending from where the dad-like figure of Mohan-ji's true nature was revealed, and how the film ended with a singe of drama and fantasy. It is absolutely fine to leave the film there and not to look back at it. Lijo, if he has an ounce of integrity shouldn't be a part of the desperate attempts that have started to sell rights of the film to the highest bidder or to the OTT networks, don't even seek further money through all the investments made via the film, let it roll and end like it's fate. It's a badly made and poorly told film with bad and inorganic action scenes. Even if a ton of sand was made to fly off from each fighter's like in the old days, it would have made the action sequences a bit more better. So, it is not worth putting more energy and time behind this one. Let the PR team do it, as it's being done. I also thought there were enough space for Porinju, Mariam, and Jose in the film, all 3 could have played some better roles. Kunchacko, Jayasurya or Rahul Madhav could have been the villain, especially Kunchacko, cause he hasn't done such a role in recent times or Rahul cause of the facial similarity, and the audience could have at least listened the dialogues in clarity. Something else that I noticed was that all the woman characters lacked the punch and power, I would say Ginjimooda Gandhari from Thenmavin Kombath had much character than any one them in this film. From the middle till near-to-end of the film I wished, it would have been much better if I had spent time watching Jayaraj's 1995 film Arabia, and I believe it might have a better storytelling than this one. However, I don't know if I have the energy to do it now, and wish someone could watch it, compare it, and provide a review.

It's a silly and serious Christian film that has the makings of a cult classic
19 January 2024
I liked the film, but I wanted a story with more originality and uniqueness, cause parts of it felt-like a rip off from the Holy Bible. It's okay to include those events as parallel story lines happening in that timeline, but not just copying it. The framing and transition of scenes used in the film would remind one of some other films, no doubt, a beautiful homage to those films, and it was used perfectly, but I wished the film also had that same kind of whip of doing things as portrayed in those films. The brilliance of the film lies in the majesty of the background and sets, the art department really deserves a toast here. Then, it is the message, there isn't just one son or daughter of God, there could have been and could be many but history was fabricated to be in favor of one race or didn't mark them as relevant. Then obviously, the humorous take on things and about how people were hustling to make a living along with whatever they did. Two factors that I didn't like about the film, use of various accents, it wasn't necessary and wasn't a fit for the story, it made it very difficult to enjoy the dialogues in the beginning. Then it was the tripped out scene, it should have been in a white or a purplish space or based on how DMT experiences would be. Anyhow, I recommend everyone with a liking to peplum like films to go and watch it without expecting much. You might enjoy certain moments and scenes in it. Sometimes one just needs the figurative "test****** fortitude" to do something meaningful in life and for society, that is the underlying message that I takeaway from this film.

A stretched out film that hits the mark at some points and fails to impress at other ones.
12 January 2024
Negative: Jayram is someone who is suffering from his own persona and impulses. He cannot act anymore, all he can do is imitate. This is what long breaks from acting does to a person, though he has the spirit to perform, it falls short. Whenever he is shown, I am hearing and seeing expressions of Kamal Hassan. The only saving grace in his acting was the physical straitjacket he took to portray being depressed and the final shot of his grinning face. I hope in part two these shortcomings would be fixed. A small suggestion for Jayram: see some Nordic films in this genre and try to imitate and adapt those actors characteristics, it might bring some difference, do the research and work. Also, get into streaming platform projects, show an active presence, doing so might make other movie makers to think about you while writing stories or making projects.

The other thing was the unnecessary distance that is kept between the investigating officer and his suspects and the would-be victims. It might've been done to intensify that suspense thingy the film was pushing, but it was a bit unpleasant. A major unpleasant thing was Jayram's character breaking his own character in a final bit with Jagadish's character by being petty and without evidence. It felt like biting on a pebble, ruined the buildup. That is one area were Suresh Gopi is actively conscious about and won't be compromising. Another one is the lack of physical care these actors had, everyone had a big ole tire around their waist, maybe their age is a factor that disallows them to maintain an aesthetic appearance. However, there should be a system in the film industry for this specific problem.

Positive: Story of the film was refreshing, had better, and never before seen story setting development. Even though the glorification of a criminal and the aspect that bone fragments were never checked during forensic's raises an eyebrow, as a first attempt by the writer, it is fairly passable. Silly medical aspects woven in were interesting, and the use of a quote, if it's a true quote in that place, the use of something that could be often overlooked was a good film element, and that seemed like a personal touch by the writer. I also loved the scoring background used, especially a strategic technique copied straight from Oppenheimer, that was a nice touch. I also liked the fact some forgotten actors were given a chance in this film, something that everyone should aim to do. Everyone has to make a living, right. Maybe the saving grace of the film was the final cameo, but maybe it also took away Jayram's spotlight off from the film. Was it required, I don't know, but to put the film onto the fourth gear for the film producer's it might've been necessary. However, I would've loved to see a different person, someone whom the audience hasn't seen in this industry or someone who used to be very active in the industry or so. Overall, giving Jayram a jumpstart through this film series is a respectable thing, even though it was a great gamble with this one, hope things would be fixed with the upcoming ones. I also hope his son wouldn't be included in these projects, cause then it would be a mega-cringe of nepotism.

Rant: It would be fun to watch a Garudan-Ozler combo, each with their own peculiarities, but could they both hone such persona's and characteristics....that would be a question. I don't know what happened with Suraj, he was doing some great acting and now all of a sudden it stopped, it seems like he is non-existent. He could have done a police officer or a doctor's role or something.

Recommendation: An okay film for one time watch, I would prefer to stream it cause the first half felt like so stretched out, but it had elements unlike other stretched out films. Watch it if you like to see Mithun's work. Cause, he has tried to incorporate many aspects and minor experiments in storytelling, and as a person if you're someone who can be appreciative about it, go to theaters to show it.

A normal film based on a regularly used sensitive topic with a twist
22 December 2023
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and +1⭐ for the main actor for taking a role that suits well and is grounded.

Film is one time watchable, has elements of a court-room film. It's a low budget film that doesn't stretch out the fabric of reality to accommodate a story, hence for general audience it's easy to follow. New cinematic court-room terms could be heard, like triple level petition and such, but they should've opted for using standardized terms like combination petition or something. Fortunately, unlike a recent film, this film uses right IPC and CRPC interpretations. So, it doesn't overly intend to make the audience as entertainment seeking fools. The story and setting of the film is more suitable for a mini web-series. It had that opportunity. Then the court-room dynamics could have been more explored. Some back stories could have explored, etc. All actors have done justice to their roles. Seasoned actors have hit their marks well. If the actress who portrayed the victim performed without any guidance and much takes, she did a level jump in her skills. If there is a category that recognizes the most hatred character's in 2023 films, Siddique holds a place there. Such actors terrifies me, cause there is acting and then there is giving life to that character, and often that sources are digged from deep within. Give an introduction to children about the nature of the film if they are brought to films, cause some might need it. Other than that everyone interested in a suspense generating, court-room film might enjoy it watching. Skipping it might not be a choice for many seeking an going-out experience with films because there are no other competing films. Streaming it later is a better choice for those who don't mind delaying a cathartic experience that the film aims to provide.

An old film thread reframed and reused.
4 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Film felt like a remake of Natturajavu to accommodate Joju and Kalyani. This marks the scarcity of quality stories in Malayalam industry. Though there were inconsistencies with the plot logic in the beginning, it was fixed by the end. Kalyani's acting felt very out of place. I don't think acting is something that is suitable for her or it's her forte. Her character intro was also a bit unbelievable. Nyla's role was the head-scratching one, didn't make any sense. Seemed like a filler role and a possible substitute for the heroine to act as a support for the hero. Fight sequences were below average with some moves hitting average esthetics. Overall, the film lacked the energy Natturajavu had but delivered it in a thematic setting that lies somewhere in the middle of neo-noir and Dileesh's classic films.

Juice, Juice, _____ Juice, Mamooty...
28 November 2023
A gratuitous attempt, possibly to showcase the range of character's that the person has done for the future, and to reap profit by creating a shock sensation. Reminded me of an old circulating photo of him sleeping on the chest of another actor. Once, such aspects were considered brotherly, many parts of Kerala didn't know to think otherwise. Many, who expressed it were naive to think beyond it, they were not brought-up in socio-cultural setting that had the ability to think as such. Maybe, now a personal statement is being made here by the actor without explicitly telling it. Also, reminded me of an allegation surrounding late actor NP who have immortalized certain characters such as Rahim Haji, Kollapulli Appan, etc. Is this film a revolutionary one, no, it is not. It is a film that can be catalogued as the one's that are carefully crafted for specific purposes. In that aspect it closely resembles to the film, Triumph of the Will. Cause, most of the local and international stereotypes have been included. Should have had a juice drinking scene as well, this way things would have had a better clarity. Things entertained once would be entertained again, especially if there is an opportunity for it and if there is a specific kind of fun surrounding it. This is no mystery. Is it possible for a chronic alcoholic to completely give-up alcoholism, not at all, though maybe for sometime, but that instinct to have it would remain there. It began as a choice, but if that person can't control it, could it be still considered as a choice, no it couldn't be, and in clinical terms it is considered as something else. Though, don't we accept them as fellow beings, we do and we are supportive. Does it mean we should revel such aspects or make a visual product to purposefully establish it in a community where films are considered as one of the top ten topics that people are conditioned to be interested. I don't know. I hope it won't legitimize related assault that many are victims to in public and private spaces. Not quite long ago, a teenager was assaulted on a bus, a couple months before at a hostel, at home, etc. I hope this wouldn't bring a wave of acceptance and normalisation to such means people have for fun. Progressive thoughts and actions mean something more and elegant, and this is about being a "parishkari," in the Kottayam Kunjachan reference. If there is any or ever were a genuine interest in progressiveness, then our socioeconomic conditions wouldn't be this bad. Movie is a perfect piece for those who follow and yearn for anything and everything, if it is especially packaged from or has a minutiae of value in the western world. The packaging aspect reminds me of "vishakol pappi" character scene in Amen. Very timely as well, as we are going through a socio-cultural regression where men and women are not marrying, not ready for it, not interested in a married relationship, and can't seem to connect, a legitimization of a pointless option to those who seek being a hippy or part of the new modern.

An attempt to bag awards. Not meant for entertainment.
27 November 2023
A film produced to bag awards. Tovino's acting reminded me of Ben Stiller's acting in Tropic Thunder as a captive. Seemed very comical. He doesn't have the skills and ability to emulate such character's for now. For him, it is better to continue doing his stereotyped character's. The film is not meant for entertainment, and it is based on a theme that has been tried over and over, it doesn't have the same impact anymore. I hope, no one sane would reward film-making such as this. The only positive thing that I can say is it's visual anachronism of the background where this story is depicted to be happening and due to how it is captured through framing the peculiarity of the filming locations, other than that nothing else. I believe films like this should only be screened in specific venues, and if the producer wants to make money through ads, it should be hyped up through the media using paid and mutual understanding marketing, and then streamed through YouTube by cutting it into segments. The audience for the film are cringe generating, fake artsy philosophers who may or may not be under the influence of substances and are seeking venting of their deteriorating bodies and situations, simply because of the remaining, pulsing, spirit in them. Certain direct to screen type content streaming platform productions have much life to it than this.

Messaging wasn't needed.
23 November 2023
The high-wired acts were a delight to watch. Maybe, it is the adage "seeing someone else's mother or family going madder by every second can be a cause for someone else's joy" is what makes this series fun. I believe this series didn't need such a star-studded cast. There are other's who could've been cast and could have elevated the spiralling of the families with their natural inclination. I liked how effectively they destroyed balance of those two old couples. Seeing this series made me wish someone would resurrect Akkara Kazhchakal format or the light humor it had with the energy of certain characters in this series. Things I didn't like at all was the incessant messaging, the voiceover sound, the highly artificial set and the young couple. Maybe, parts of the story was formulated with the intention to fit with the international platform's overall position on certain things, but such compromise is not required, not all languages do it, take French language TV-Series and Movies for an example. Fun should have been the only criteria for making this series.

A moldy low-budget film.
4 November 2023
A sloppy film with filmy story hinges. Overall, the film had a moldy feel to it. The initial scenes reminded me about films after 2010 and parts of Listin's JGM film, and an irksome thing that still remains with me is the transitional songs used, it reminded me about films that used such transitional songs for genre's other than this. From seeing the sketch of the preparator, I for a moment thought Ajay Devgan was in this film, but no, he wasn't. That was a bad sketch artist. I also didn't like the dynamics of the film, it was slow and a 1x faster nearing the end. I didn't like the unrealistic and filmy use of law and cases as well. The maximum those refered cases compensated were around INR 300,000 and that obligation didn't and doesn't fall on the police officer by law. I don't know how this plot hinge wasn't scrutinized before it was used as motive for re-investigation. After seeing Kannur Squad, I don't think Malayali audience is simply ready for listening to how a case is solved, cause for that there are far better and real-life case presentations and narrations on YouTube by experienced Malayali police officer's. I believe this is where the film skimped money, and opted the low-budget strategy. I heard Suresh asks INR 6000,000 for 4 days of acting, I believe actors with a staggering box-office performance or without any recent box-office hype should cut their fees in half and opt a profit-sharing strategy. Otherwise, medianly budgeted films wouldn't have resources to do these films properly. For some unknown reason, I wanted to see Saikumar in this film, I haven't seen him for such a long time. He could have handled one of the roles very brilliantly in this film with his presence. I felt Biju Menon's initial acting as a bit unimpressive, the director could have asked him to do things differently, maybe as a newcomer he didn't have the guts to do it. Though later on the actor added his weight onto the character, that reinstilled my confidence in him. Overall, the film lacked a patina of brilliance that couldn't be drawn out and visualized due to the inexperience of the Director. I believe if Shaji Kailas or Vinayan had this script, they would have crafted this film differently, and the executions might have been different. Newcomer's should do films in tie-up with experienced Director's and such contracts should be made via production companies, and there should be no shame in it. At least, some of the veteran and semi-retired directors should be hired as consultants that wouldn't involve in the final decision of the hired director but would be there to provide suggestions and guidance, even if they are not given face value. The craft and knowledge of one generation of Industry Master's shouldn't become extinct with them and the industry shouldn't be facing a situation where new people who come in have to reinvent the wheel. Otherwise, these newcomer's should have that experience or guts to execute films that demands proficiency a film in this span needs, more coherently. Sad fact is not many have it, and even after 1-2 films some still don't have it. Go watch it, if you have the money and feel like watching a criminal investigation film, but don't expect much.

After 20 years, a film that follows the trail of The Rundown
31 October 2023
This film reminded me of Dwayne's movie The Rundown with an overall picturesque theme of a Far Cry game. Compared to Dwayne's movie, this seemed like a lighter version of it with repulsive characters. Alison's character was that of a teenage girl with an entitled princess attitude, and John's was like a genetically blessed pre-teen who when asked to do something does it like an enthusiastic teen (hey buddy, wash the car please like thing), but nothing else goes behind those two eyes. Venegas character's flair reminded me of Aladeen from The Dictator film. I think the audience for the film was teenagers, and adults who hate teenagers that act like there is no real world consequences and are able to get away from the consequences. Is this worth of your money ? Spend it, if you really want to just laugh with a group of people even if the jokes are cliched, and see some 30 second ammo bursting sequences that could be seen while lazily swiping through movie clip reels.

An okay dramedy
24 October 2023
A film that goes in routes of older films, with some elements and bgm that reminded me of an era when Jagadish was an upcoming superstar, and Jayram and Suresh Gopi were doing lead combo-roles. I don't have much hate for the story. Characters aren't required to be developed for films like this, that is not the aim of the film, it just have to move along and needs to be fun, a bit of goodness, and a bit lovey-dovey without straining the audience with a lot of inconsistencies and negative shades. I would say this is a film where I liked Dhyan being himself and responding to scenes as he is after Adi Kapyare Kootamani. I believe films that showcase his natural playfulness and a bit of self-serving mentality is what fits him well now. If one can categorise about the characters that most of the actors in the industry play, it is evident that there are some roles that fit them very well. There are only some who could do versatile roles with a pizzaz, and only a few who would just bring out the character as such without any touch of their own personality. Anyhow, I am not body-shaming or anything, but I wish Dhyan would trim-down a bit, and keep a healthy level of chubbiness that is fit for his body-frame. One thing in the film that I did not understand and appreciate was Aju's under the lip prosthetic, it was not required at all and I don't know why he agreed to it either.

Tit for tat race generalisation
10 October 2023
It's only 11 minutes, like one of those short Chinese animation series. It has some snarky bits, double entendres, and a tit for tat kind of race generalisation with a bit of xenophobia. The snarky bits poke fun at the insensible money-making schemes that targets new-generation, and by which some amass wealth. The race relation is shown as it is common to generalise people based on their race, origin, background, etc and no one is triggered by it, and everyone sees it as a common thing to do in Canada, and at best it is used as an excuse and sass by both women and men of all colors and shape. I have never seen such openness and guilt-free depiction of it. With all the circus and propaganda pushing that is going in Canada, I believe only this kind of race relation works there. Everyone involved has some form of narcissistic traits and a bit of circus that goes in Canada as well, it was a bit amusing to watch that kind of interactions. If a mixture of transnationalism and white Canadian interactions were not the sole focus; I would have loved to seeing some more multicultural families in the show. Kim's family from Kim's Convenience was a delight, and in that same vein, I would love to see some Ukrainian, Nigerian, and Punjabi families in the future seasons of the show to just make it colorful.

Shows how Military training works in the UK
8 October 2023
The mini series shows how it would be for people signing-up for British soldier training. The problem that I have with the training is the lack of professional guidance in these trainings rooted in psychology, interpersonal skills, leadership, and communication when there are already a plenty of resources available to enrich and enhance character, attitudes, and mental framework required to succeed in these roles. The only guidance these trainees get is you did this and this wrong, and have to correct it, otherwise your chances of passing out from the program is slim, that is the best case of support they get for improvement. There is no guidance on how to process the training and evaluations properly. None of the trainers are trained in it as well. Not having a training or not providing such educational information is a missed opportunity. A positive aspect is the motivational reviews provided, and it boosts morale in trainees to find that personal strength to go past their preconceived limitations. The trainees astoundingly take it well, and push past their physical limitations. I believe the supportive strength training, the direct and indirect routines, and the required nutritional supply that was provided played a critical role in it, the strength training department played it's role very well. The inspection requirements also helps to attune a certain discipline and awareness required to be focused in duty. I have to say, the variety of biscuits showed in the series looked very nice. Quality coffee machines should be provided, seems like they do not know how to flush it, hence older-unserviced models should be rotated out.

It's a good investigative thriller film
30 September 2023
Honestly, can't say anything much wrong about it. Seemed like the story was perfectly crafted, and it gave the director the freedom to execute it properly. The brothers did a good job, and a good insightful interview about their process and timeline to develop and streamline it is required. They haven't overdone anything, that was a good thing. The film even provides a small relief through Mumbaivala Shiju character from the hectic investigation process. There are some Cameo appearances as such. There are 2-3 short scenes in the film that are not suitable to watch for children, but it was necessary and is aesthetically minimal as well compared to similar films. I believe this minimalism in portraying these elements is a very good thing, and hope this ethics in filmmaking won't be replaced. A small ticker that says a film element such as that is to be shown on the the side of the screen with a timer would help as well. To just to say a negative, I am not sure why George had to find words in English, and that too strainingly when he was asking an UP Officer to translate it in Hindi. That was not needed at all, and the film showed earlier he can handle Hindi, cause in a public function he was supposed to sing a Hindi song. Many liked RDX for it's fight sequences, for me some of those were a bit cringey. This film offers some fight sequence as well, and if you like an investigation thriller movie, this is a good one and might be the season best.

Gray (2023– )

Here and there
30 September 2023
Season one started slow, none of the agents working with her showed a normal level of skill that usually these agents have in films. Gray was the one that had it. Sara is given an attention that isn't required in a similar setting, she isn't brought-up to it naturally. The whole series lacks a motility, and the only one that makes it is Gray. Is it a great series, I don't know, cause all the other characters are acting like NPC's and some with a small character defined roles. When it comes to veterans playing the secret service game, I like the Red film series and the Slow Horses TV series. This one is not a contender in that segment. It's a series that hopes to be many things with a unique take, and only fairly justifies it's intention. It doesn't go above and beyond. I am not a fan of cliffhanger's but it seems like a second season is already being filmed.

An underwhelming episode
27 September 2023
I only knew today that Ray Stevenson passed away. I have to say what a body frame, he was perfect for the towering role. I expected the legend that brought him to the planet would've been further unravelled, and instead I saw a weak protrayal of him. That's what made me do a search. At least, I hope it gets unravelled through other jedi's in the show. The direction or the final cut of the episode wasn't engaging, I felt like going through the motions, and just as an attempt to end it as soon as possible with some lighthearted interactions and seriousness that almost felt like mocking. I hope the first season covers all the necessary elements needed to satisfy it's regular viewers, and won't let them feel disappointed with an open-ended, broken off, unsaid wrap-up.

Lacks the element of awe and surprise
26 September 2023
Didn't feel like a good start. Supposedly it is about behavioral analysis and forensic intervention. All, I saw was trauma-centered analysis and a suspect who had the ingenuity to circumvent what he did with a certain mental strength quickly drew the gun when Mercer was just talking to him. It did not have any quirky moments or interesting plot movement mechanics, Mercer even doesn't appear to be a memorable character. There isn't even a light-hearted joke. I believe the series lacks a specialist in behavioral psychology. The best option is just to prop-up Mercer as a psychologist, this way you can touch-up on many things as you intend to do it. Try to show his coping skills, and maybe make it a bit funny. Even if you don't want to, try to do something funny, because the current formula for the series is dull and lethargic. Add a dollop of mysticism that could be seen in The Blacklist and a dollop scientific rigor shown in Bones.

I went in seeing a quote that people were silent after the film.
27 August 2023
This is my first IMAX experience. Boy 'o' boy, I loved how sound just pours into the theatre. However, I didn't think the film was great. Even, I was silent after the film. It was because, I didn't like the film much and the end credits made me think about the money that I spent to experience the film. I could've got grocery with it. People near me were occasionally snoring or playing with each other. Seeing the **x scene on that big screen made some near me breath heavily. Positives about the film would be Nolan's ability to execute the story in a fairly non-boring way, the awesome sound (maybe it's an IMAX effect), and an opportunity to see Cillian's craft in an up close manner. I liked his character in Peaky Blinders and in this you're able to see that he has put more work into it, from TV Screen to Big Screen requires that commitment and he has done it. A pro like Robert's acting was also relevant, however this kind of acting is nothing new to him. Emily's role seemed to be an overrated one, I don't know why they did it, maybe to show her in a special light, I don't know. I would like to see Cillian in a western-rancher kind of film, just to see how it would turn out.

RDX boys should visit some College's in Kerala
26 August 2023
RDX boys should visit Bishop College's Arun Aravind. That could be a new trend in Kerala. Other than that the film is a fight-oriented film with unnecessary slow-motion, and underutilized actors. There could've been more comedy like seen In Harihar Nagar, a restructured combo of those youths had that potential. There are many youths out there, who could be in combo role films, if writers can take the chance to visualize them together and provide roles that make them act with passion. I feel the currently orphaned and rusting ones that needs to band together are Unni, Siju, Vinay, Amit, Chandunath, etc. When you hear about a Vineeth film, a Nivin film, a Dulquer film, a Lijo film, etc one can imagine what other actors will be there in that film. The one's I have mentioned are not in any youth combo films. Among them, only Unni had the brilliance to venture out by himself when no one was thinking films with him. Then there is Dhyan, who simply wants presence, and the size of the projects doesn't matter to him. Another thing about the film is the showcase of Vypin, doesn't matter if they're educated or not. All of them have that disease of violence in them, that could only be rooted out by passing over. Some of them are professionals in interpersonal violence and scheming. So that was a closer to reality element in the film. I was looking forward to see Babu Antony's full-fledged fight but just a short nunchuck action. Such a Malayalam movie legend deserves a lengthy kollywood/tollywood film type action sequence that justifies the hype his older films had. I hope some fanboy will be ready to make a Padayappa style film with him as an still kicking, yezdi riding elder of the family with that long hair. There is a huge scope for such silver haired, badass, hero-type films. Anyhow, films like RDX is an indicator that more and more film makers are turning to use violence as the main element of their film, simply because they don't have a story or the skill needed to tell a good story. That is where some old films stands test of time. If thallumaala kind of zany songs were included, this could've been called Thallumaala II. Anyhow, not an ideal family film by any means, and not for impressionable children. A fun action film with necessary drama to hold it, and something that could be seen with friends and with other adults.

Spared no expense, can't get that line out from my head
25 August 2023
Years ago this was a 10/10 for me. However, I never had the opportunity to see it on big screen and I got that opportunity today to see it in 3D. I have to say the film still retains it's magic. I wished with today's technology they could have added some more dinosaurs and scenes to the film to make it look a bit more rich. I believe they would have aced at it. For some reason, I have only noticed the spared no expense line today, and I can't get it out of my head. It was a bit of too much. I also believe many of the films doomsday dialogues could be used against today's budding technology as well. I believe the film is about the freedom of dreaming big and about using will to make things come true.

A different kind of character build
9 August 2023
Out of all the Donghua protagonist's Han Li is special. Unlike other's Han Li didn't get any mysterious inheritance that can make him a hero. All he had is a cheat method to age plants quickly, everything else, skills and tools, he obtained it by himself through being very diplomatic, strategic, and fighting out fights with absolute confidence in his ability. Then again, his sole aim remains, to continuously cultivate, and seek resources, tools, and skills. He never compromises his pursuit, and is not a fool to stick out his head unnecessarily or show his hand to seek fame. All of this makes Han Li a real world person who is striving in an ancient fantasy continent. The series gave multiple scares about being cancelled. Though, they revived it and thanks for continuing the awesome story of clever Han Li. The only issue I have about the series is since 2023 they started to drag through the episodes more than it is needed instead of covering the story, it affects the quality of story telling. Some other prominent series' are also doing this, I am not sure why they're afraid, it is not like they don't have the content and doesn't have enough stories to run the studios.
