Ted Lasso: No Weddings and a Funeral (2021)
Sassy undoes the magic
Ted Lasso is a wonderful series. The only bum note is any scene featuring the prodigiously obnoxious, unfunny, loud and annoying character Sassy. Utterly one dimensional, without an ounce of pathos. Hard to know how much is the performance and how much is the actor. The scenes between Ted and Sharon the psych contain all the strengths of the show, the convincing pathos amidst the fun. Hopefully this is not the beginning of a show on slide, because it has been a breath of fresh air, and I can only hope that Richmond AFC make their back to the Premiership. And let's hope Sassy finds happiness in country far far away and is unable to visit Rebecca for some time.
Citadel (2023)
Haven't we seen this before
Family man who turns out to be an amnesiac super spy, fighting an awfully evil worldwide organisation planning to wreak havoc on the world...why?...who knows, apparently they have wondered across from an Austin Powers movie. None of the bad guys can shoot of course, no matter how many bullets they fire they couldn't hit the side of a barn. The ring leader is a posh and foul mouthed middle aged British woman. And there are lots of fights, long tedious fights. They have employed some actors but seem to have forgotten to employ scriptwriters. Instead they just recycle every tired cliche from endless similar films. Very disappointing.
Babylon (2022)
Crass, heavy handed, dreadful
A hot long disjointed mess. His last two films were great, this is not. Mr Creosote meets jackass, and not in a good way. Terrible. Some nice jazz music but tries so hard to be shocking just for the sake of it. Horrible characters that we feel nothing for. It should be hard to make a bad film about the move industry of the 1920s and 1930s, but this is one. Hail Caesar was lightweight 50s Hollywood, but entertaining and witty. This is not. The elephant at the start may have summed up the content of the film. It could have been so good, it is so disappointing that it is such a mess. The only really good scene is the difficulty of getting a take for Margot Robbie's first talkie scene.
The Sinner (2017)
First 2 series great, series 3 teeedious
Series 3 implausible, unsympathetic characters, and how come Harry Ambrose wasn't asked to hand his badge and gun? And how about we let a murderous psychopath wander about town. Series 1 and 2 brilliant. Series 3 long, dull, boring, pretentious.
Away (2020)
Could it be any slower
Starts well, then gets slower and slower and slower till it almost stops. Too much portentous dialogue. Wow it takes a long, long time to get to Mars.
Vikings: Moments of Vision (2018)
Boring
Did they lose the script on the way to the set? Slow motion, dreams, flashbacks, all the things to do when you're out of ideas. Warriors in the midst of battle stopping to stare into the distance to daydream. The worst episode of the all the series. Dull, repetitive, ridiculous. Where's Travis Fimmel when you need him.
Lost in Space: Severed (2019)
Return to form
After the loquacious talk fest last so, this is a satisfying return to form. Sharp action, thrills a bit of mystery. Listing Space, Back in Form!
Lost in Space: Run (2019)
Too much tedious filler
Endless talking and talking and talking, and who gets there leg caught under a rubbish bag, and after going to all that trouble getting into the garbage disposal how can you take so long to spot the only blue bag amongst all the green bags and then fail to take the bag. And how many flashbacks is too many (answered ...1) Good show, poor episode. 20 minutes of action stretched to an hour.
