After Midnight (2024)
Cringe Worthy
This show is so bad that it's really hard to watch. It's like watching a car wreck happen and you just have to turn away. If you are going for mean spirited comedy, at least make sure your material is funny. In addition to not being funny, It's not original either. The fake game show format is done much better by SNL. They could have spent more money on the set, boring! I am not familiar with the host. Other reviewers seem to like her. I have only seen her in this show and she strikes me as pretty ordinary. Nothing about her performance or personality stands out. I don't think this show can be saved.
The Holdovers (2023)
Depressing and Familiar
Definitely not the feel good Holiday movie I was expecting. In fact, if the holidays already have you down, you might want to skip this movie.
The good: - Paul Giamatti is always a pleasure to watch. His performances are always real and this movie is no exception. - It's set in the 1970s and they did an excellent job recreating that era without getting carried away or gimmicky. - It's filmed beautifully and the opening scenery is especially charming.
The not so good (to me): - The film drags in some spots. -- It reminds me a little too much of "Scent of a Woman" , but is not as much fun. - I walked away feeling depressed. I wasn't looking for a gooey Hallmark ending, but I wanted something to show the characters would find a way forward. Some might say the film had a realistic ending, but I saw no point to the movie.
NCIS: Sydney (2023)
As Bad as NCIS Hawaii
One again, they have cast unlikeable female leads. The female leads in Sydney and Hawaii are cut from the same cloth; one dimensional, trying to act like a man, and really bad acting. Seriously, are there any female writers on these shows? We want female characters that are interesting and stand out like Hetty and Ziva. This show has no strong anchor characters like Gibbs, Pride, or Hetty. Being inclusive also means hiring people of various ages. The people on this show over age 40 are almost all minor throw away characters. Maybe somebody could give Taraji P. Henson or Allison Janney a call and see if they would be interested in leading this wreck of a show.
Down Home Fab (2023)
No Experience Required
I watched this show with no pre-existing opinions of the female host. I was not aware of of her prior reality show. My review is strictly based on this show and their home makeover skills.
The hosts of this show don't have much chemistry on screen and they are not fun to watch. The male host is either the silent partner or "yes" man.
It does not appear either host has any real professional experience. It seems like they just throw a hodgepodge of trends together, some of which are surprisingly outdated. There is no cohesion or clear style. The designs are not attractive.
In one episode they converted a dining room into a mud room off of the front door. It looked so out of place. If entries are the first impression of your home, what does a mud room say about the owners? This is the work of amateurs.
There are plenty of decent design shows with hosts that have real talent and are enjoyable to watch. This show just can't compare to them.
Island of Bryan (2019)
Not as Interesting as Earlier Seasons
Watching them renovate the hotel was very interesting. It something I have never seen on tv before. The pandemic and weather added to the challenges.
I am loosing interest because watching them renovate their own home was not much different than the hotel. The deadlines, supply issues, difference of opinions, and design aesthetic are all very similar.
For a family home, it is not very warm. The kids rooms look like hotel rooms. Honestly, it reminded me a bit of Miami in the 80s.
I find Bryan very likable and easy to watch. Sarah comes off as a strong personality and a bit demanding. However, she is a woman in business and it may be a necessary trait for people to take her seriously. I would like to see if Sarah is capable of any types of designs other than modern motel.
The Rookie: Feds (2022)
What were they thinking?
If you remove two characters, Simone and Brendon (the rookies), I think you would have a decent show with the remaining cast.
The main character seems to be rookie Simone's breast. I have watched three episodes and they can't get away from directing attention to her chest. Even her flirting goes too far. I support strong women characters, but this one just comes off as sleazy. It's like the show runners have no respect for women. I thought we were getting past this in the entertainment industry.
The Simone character also seems to know everything and avoids all rookie mistakes. The other rookie is a popular actor turned FBI agent. I know tv shows stretch reality, but this is too much.
The Kelly Clarkson Show (2019)
Kelly Needs to Rein It In
First, let me say that overall I really do like Kelly Clarkson. I have been rooting for her since her American Idol days. She appears to be a kind and generous person. She is an absolutely phenomenal singer and songwriter.
As a talk show host, I think she need to rein her personality in. She dominates her guest and turns everything into being about her. As soon as her guests makes a statement, she takes it and turns it into a story about her own related experience. Please Kelly, listen to your guests. Stop interrupting them and talking over them. It fine to relate to someone, but you can do that in a few words.
Ugliest House in America (2022)
Like the Show, but not the Designer
I am not a fan of the designer Allison. She is obsessed with the color green (pea green) and uses it as often as possible. She also uses the show to promote her own products which explains how she found kitchen appliances in pea green. I would like to see different designers.
Selling the Big Easy (2019)
Poor Host, Limited Scope
Realtor is horrible. She does nothing but run her mouth and brag on herself. Show is very limited in scope. How much variety can there be when you stay in in one area?
Hunters (2020)
Ridiculous Ending
This series kept me interested although I questioned some of its choices. I think it was trying to be humorous at points which I didn't think was appropriate for such a serious topic as the Holocaust. Some of the characters and acting were a bit over the top. After watching the last episode, I realized what a colossal waste of my time this series was.
