Miss Sloane (2016)
Hmm.. Better read this.
I suppose my opinion differs from most of the people submitting reviews. I love a good movie, maybe a Pelican Brief type scenario, but this. No real action. Lady takes on mission to get a anti-gun bill passed, and it's a big thing trying to round up the necessary votes of the senators. Just a small expose into what it's like trying to get the votes from a behind the scenes type of perpective. No problemo so far. But the movie is just really really slow and entirely too long. I paused this several times and came back to it because the first 2/3 of the movie was just building up at a snails pace. For the first 2/3 I'd give it a 4 rating, HOWEVER. Once you hit that last bit, it picks up kind of sweet, gets faster paced, and intriguing. The climax is pretty darn sweet. So with that said, the final 1/3 of the show I'd give it an 8, for a good average of a 6 overall.
Revolver (2005)
Just no. I'm a Statham fan, but just no.
I wanted the blood and guts, bone twisting martial art tough guy film, and this was just way too deep if you're not expecting it. Too trippy, and no explanations at the end. Was it split personalities, which characters were the personalities, what was real, what was imagined. It's like a bad Tim Burton acid trip, and I mean a bad one, not a good one like that may sound. Now, if you were looking for a psychological thriller in the first place, then I still wouldn't recommend this one. Mostly due to the lack of closure and explanations. Imagine the film Sixth Sense, and it "ends" before the reveal. Stuck wondering.
Doctor Who: Rosa (2018)
So much PC badness.
It's a nice story, but the historical inaccuracies are too painful, they compel me to review! First, Rosa Parks was not given a Congressional medal by Former President Bill Clinton in 1999. (A congressional medal comes from the Congress). She was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom (The highest award a President can give). Yes. It's all in the details. Details that were gotten wrong, that even a 12 year old with google could have researched. Why is everything about slavery, and the struggle for civil rights in the US? Didn't the UK have enough history to make a show? We do remember, the UK had slavery too right? Remember? Are we glad that the evil UK and US finally outlawed it? Of course we are, but no mention that modern-day slavery STILL exists in Africa. No no, don't talk about that, just keep blaming the US and the UK. Rosa Parks was not the first black woman to refuse to remove from her seat. She wasn't even the second. Nobody talks about the first--Claudette Colvin. Rosa was an activist, and she had a telegenic profile (she looks good in pictures).
The Wheel of Time (2021)
I'm only a few episodes in on the first season
No story. Briefly introduce characters. Drawn out fight. No explanations. Aha! Bad guys are trying to get you. Must flee! Walking! We're walking here. Still walking. No real dialog along the trail. Horses never poop and are almost always saddled during the nights. Ok, a couple strange dreams along the way. More walking here! Bad guys caught up! We're running now! They can't swim. Cross a river, blow up boat! We're safe! Back to a walking speed! Meet a strange group of people along the way. Bad guys caught up again! Running speed! Behold an abandoned city with huge walls. Bad guys are scared, so we're going in! That's the gist of it. Very slow moving, no real direction. Just a story about an endless chase thus far. No idea what the "series" is going to be about. Feels like really cheap knock off of Lord of the Rings, with much more walking. The fights and special effects were kind of nice, but that's like 5 minutes of a 60 minute episode, followed by 55 minutes of walking. Hoping the next few episodes get better and lay out some story.
The Green Knight (2021)
At least pronounce the main character's name correctly.
I'm struggling to continue through this, but every time I hear them mispronounce Gawain (Guh-wayne) as Gah-win I cringe a bit.
