La Brea (2021)
Biggest load of junk I have ever seen
Biggest load of junk I have ever seen, and I've seen plenty.
The script seems to be written in a pass the parcel way, by kids with instructions to create a new shock revelation or dramatic situation every few minutes.
The acting is abysmal and consists mainly of lots of staring and coming out with bland nonsense, much favoured by Americans, such as . . . I'll never leave you, I lurv you, I'm there for you - blah blah blah. All done with deep meaningful stares and much clutching of arms, hands etc.
It doesn't work on any level.
Even as, suspend your brain, popcorn entertainment it's so awful that it makes you want to scream.
The Last Frontier (1955)
Did I watch a different movie
An aberration for Anthony Mann who was the only reason I watched this.
Not entirely Manns' his fault. The script regarding the "romantic" angle was dire. If you call, forcing yourself on a loyal married woman, romantic.
Mature at his most most ridiculous hamminess. And that's saying something from the Hollywoods king of Ham.
Mature struts around, mostly drunk and loutish and falling just short of raping the colonels wife. I assume the audience is meant grin, slapping their thighs and thinking 'wow, what a man'
I have to give some credit to the other actors who were fine, good directing despite the material, and good scenery and sets.
Gun Fever (1958)
Better than reviews suggest
Yes it's low budget but deserves watching for it's gritty, no nonsense and uncompromising violence, especially when compared to other westerns of this period.
