The Brink (2020)
A Grim Vision of a Post-apocalyptic Britain
Surprised by how good this was, really felt like it could happen. Perhaps the only flaw is that I think a nuclear Winter would leave the country in an even worse state. Congratulations to the actors; I think they really made the film!
Europa Europa (1990)
Fantastic Story based on an Autobiography
I really enjoy this amazing film of a Jewish boy who survived World War 2 by pretending to be Volksdeutsch (ethnically German). Despite the initial suspicions of the Nazis, he is believed and becomes adopted by a relatively high-ranking Nazi and pursues a rather erratic path through the war. He survives in spite of the intention of the Soviets to execute him.
Persischstunden (2020)
A Metaphor for the Suffering in the War
If, as I believe was intended, this film is taken to be metaphorical, it is excellent! A Jewish man just avoids execution by pretending to be Persian. A German officer tries to use him to learn Persian, although the man himself cannot speak a word of the real language!
Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
Rather slow for modern times
We were really surprised, as my partner loves Audrey Hepburn and I thought we would enjoy the film, due to its supposed greatness. To be honest it was rather slow. Probably the best performance of all was that of the cat, followed by Audrey Hepburn. The music was good, at least for nostalgia.
