Turnover (2019)
Beautiful, Uplifting Film!
Turnover was such a lovely surprise for me - really enjoyed the film after spending the last decade watching movies with guns and superheroes and magical nonsense.
It really resonated with me as an entrepreneur/ former business owner and as a human. really beautiful stuff with something in it for everyone!
Dirty Beautiful (2015)
Dirty Beautiful is well beautiful
Thought this was a great little indie romantic comedy - but not at all a traditional "rom-com" in any sense. The performances were great and I found myself riveted to the end. Totally worth checking out on Amazon Prime.
Vampire Burt's Serenade (2020)
Wow.
Hard to know what to say about "Vampire Burt's Serenade" - it is weird and wonderful and ridiculous and campy. It clearly did not feature the world's largest special-effect budget - but it kinda doesn't matter. This film is not to be taken seriously, it is to be enjoyed.
Derelict (2019)
Fun indie thriller
Derelict was a fun "b-style" indie movie - decent plot twists and turns with a premise and action that held my attention throughout. Was totally surprised by the ending (that's a good thing). Totally worth checking out.
7 Hills (2019)
What a Beautiful Film About Life and Culture in the Middle East through the lens of Skateboarding!
"7 Hills" really spoke to me, as a beautifully-shot skateboarding/ street art documentary. You can tell that the folks behind the film made it with love - that shines through so brilliantly. It was fantastic to be transported to a world outside my own (Jordan and the Middle East) and view the people and the culture through the lens of skating. Highly recommended!
Closure (2018)
I enjoyed the hell out of this movie!
What a fun, unexpected ride 'Closure' turned out to be! Really enjoyed the journey, the acting and the story. Great stuff!
Curry Munchers (2011)
Fun, lighthearted romantic comedy
Really enjoyed Vindaloo Empire - a lovely, worlds-collide culture-clash romantic comedy. It had some proper depth to it, with all of the charm you want out of an indie film.
Tovarisch, I Am Not Dead (2007)
Beautiful, Haunting and Amazingly Put Together Documentary
This film is exactly why I love documentaries. The very best docs transport you to a world outside your own, rich with beauty and pain and human struggles - Tovarisch, I Am Not Dead does this so very well. Excellently put-together and edited, what a beautiful, haunting story!
The Mentor (2020)
Wild and Wacky Indie Journey!
Really enjoyed this dark comedy - it's very "filmmaking meta" which definitely helped me enjoy it more - though I'm confident that non-industry, non-film-buff types will enjoy the hell out of it as well.
Overall The Mentor was a very creative and wild journey - exactly what I want out of an indie film!
Miss Multiverse - Australia (2019)
This show ended up being way more fun and compelling than I expected!
Miss Multiverse - Australia was a super fun watch - well paced and expertly produced. It was a fun take on the tried and true reality competition format, and I ended up knocking out the entire season in one sitting on Amazon Prime!
I Want to Believe (2020)
Solid UFO Doc!
I Want to Believe is a well-produced and compelling UFO documentary. Whether you already believe or not, this film does a great job at presenting evidence through interviews and footage with well-known "UFOlogists". I've seen a handful of documentaries about this subject and I Want to Believe is definitely one of the better ones! Totally worth checking out on Amazon prime!
Eleven Days (2018)
A Beautifully Shot and Produced Coming-of-Age Film
Wow, what a lovely film this is! Such wonderful cinematography and a beautiful, well done story. Really great!
Got Pain? (2019)
Must watch for those in or around folks with chronic pain!
"Got Pain" is a much watch for anyone in our around folks with chronic pain. Very informative and inspirational - I respect the hell out of Directors William and Chandra Vandry for putting this together to share with the world!
Chasing After You (2019)
A beautiful movie made beautifully!
Chasing After You is a perfectly beautiful modern-day romance movie. It was real and religious in a wonderful way. So well done!
Distiller (2016)
Fun Indie Throwback Horror Film!
I liked Distiller a lot as a sorta 80's throwback indie horror film. It was fun as hell, just don't expect Avengers-level graphics and special effects. It was funny too, in that rad b-movie campy way. Totally worth the watch on Amazon Prime!
Sweet Sunshine (2020)
Loved this one!
Sweet Sunshine is going to definitely get some "hey that's like A Star is Born" comments out there - and ultimately that's a good thing. The film has just the right amount of music, romance and a bit of spirituality to make it a fantastic indie that you can watch alone or with the whole family.
Better Than Love (2019)
Gritty, Real Movie About Drugs and "The Game" Around Drug Dealing
Better Than Love was a really well shot, well acted and well executed Indie thriller about the dangers of opioid addiction. It's a dark movie (as would be expected given that description), and crafted in a real and impactful manner. Good, engaging stuff!
The Stand Up Doll (2019)
Excellent!
This is the reason documentaries exist - to share stories you didn't know you needed to know from people that have lived extraordinary lives.
The Stand Up Doll covers the very full life of Risa Ingelfeld, a Holocaust survivor, mother, singer, dancer and so much more. What will touch you the most will be her zeal for life.
Amazing work by Evelyne Tollman here, simply spectacular.
Yesterday went with Yesterday (2019)
Beautiful, deep and emotionally engrossing filmmaking!
This was one of the deepest and most beautifully crafted indie films I've seen in a long, long time.
Yesterday Went with Yesterday has a ton of emotional heft to it, so thoughtfully layered into a real gem of a film. Beautiful stuff!
Polaris (2016)
Simply Outstanding
Wow. Polaris really knocked my socks off - took a little bit to get going, but once it did I found myself deeply riveted - following each unexpected twist and turn along with the stellar cast.
Soudabeh Moradian's work here was simply outstanding.
Broken Ceiling (2018)
Fantastic Indie Drama
Broken Ceiling is about a woman trying to make her way through and elevate her position within a company - and it was an excellently crafted indie production that was just so well executed! The twists and turns were clever and the acting was fantastic. Really well done.
Perfect Feet (2019)
I enjoyed this one way more than I expected to!
"Perfect Feet" is a shockingly enjoyable, sweet and informative documentary about, well, feet. I ended up enjoying it way more than I expected to, given that I'm not really a "feet" guy.
This doc is really well done, and all of the info and interviews are presented in such a lovely, earnest way. If you're looking for a fun, interesting documentary, check this one out.
Hex (2017)
Enjoyable, Slow-Building Historical/ Period Piece
I loved this one - the setting, the period (1600's English Civil War) and the pace - it had a nice, slow build that was well-executed.
Really good use of tension and you really get a sense of what these characters are fighting for.
A Lesson in Cruelty (2018)
Fun, over-the-top satire
I enjoyed this fun, way-over-the-top satire. The premise is fun and simple - and A Lesson in Cruelty was well put-together and fantastically acted... especially the lead Justin Lebrun.
Watched this one on Amazon Prime - it's a good fun film for anyone that's ever had a terrible boss!
Love Is Not Enough (2019)
Beautiful feel-good movie...
Really enjoyed Love is Not Enough - it was beautifully done from the casting, the acting, the directing, etc. Really brought me into the characters world - and I thoroughly enjoyed the time spent.
Absolutely worth checking out on Amazon Prime if you're feeling like spending some time with a quality indie romantic comedy in these crazy times.
