Waterworld (1995)
Idiotic future scenario
Average, unoriginal plot, good SFX for the time. But It took time for the water levels to rise. Everyone just gave up and drowned? No floating cities, tons of boats, etc? Why was dry-land uninhabited it would be over-run. Come on use common sense. The waters rise, you move to higher ground or onto ships, boats anything that floats. There was a generation to plan for this! Watch "Blue Submarine #6" an Anime with a similar scenario (with the addition of genius sharks that talk :) ) Sure the population will drop but not to the pitiful handful in this truly idiotic vision of a planet covered in 99.9% water.
What about the big-SFX scene The mariner and his babe in the home-made bathescape (which would not work BTW, it would have flooded before 100', especially with that dinky compressor) there's a nuclear sub jammed into a building in the middle of the sunken city. Uh, why? This was a slow rising of the waters, not a tidal wave! Again, stupid eye candy with no forethought or logic.
Or at the end the girl falls over 100' from the balloon, yet makes a splash as if she jumped from the side of a small boat. The 100' fall would have probably killed her.
Wing Commander (1999)
Stupid, idiotic, weak plot, physics? What physics?
Let's see. Space ships painted jungle cameo. - useless in a black environment. "Radar" in space that pings like sonar, even though sonar pings would not work in vacuum.
A fighter gets bulldozed off a landing area and falls down past the ship - when there is no gravity! There are just so many stupid mistakes on that level - or worse - that it boggles the mind.
The writers, director, an everyone thought they were directing a WWII submarine movie - that's the only explanation, as they apply the behavior and physics of water to space.
The acting is pathetic. Only a 10 year old could enjoy this movie. Even the script can't get the action right - one line described ships coming through one at a time, but the movie shows three and four coming through.
If you want a laugh and have time to kill, watch it. Otherwise, avoid at all costs!
Remo Williams: The Prophecy (1988)
Mediocre TV pilot, but better than nothing
The only reason I gave it a rating of 7, and not the 4 I wanted to, was Roddy Macdowell's portrayal of Chiun. I found the head-wrap annoying, but he does not sport Chiun's wispy quaff. If you're a fan of the movie or book series, you really need to see the pilot.
It's based on the Novella "The Day Remo Died." This short story was part of "The Assassin's Handbook," later reissued as "Inside Sinanju." Warren Murphy recently reissued a new version of "The Assassin's Handbook" and "The Assassin's Handbook II." Both are available at warrenmurphy.com.
I managed to procure a copy of the TV pilot through the generosity of the DestroyerClub.com website (the official site.) They produced a FREE DVD that is yours for the asking. All I had to do was send them a mailing label and a few stamps, and my free DVD arrived. What was cool was the extras the TV promo spot and movie bloopers! I have also seen very poor quality bootlegs for sale on eBay (don't but this trash!)
