2010: Moby Dick (2010)
A very entertaining movie in creating a captain that is so dumb and irritating
It ought to be one of the most successive movie in creating a super-idiot captain Ahab and a super-brilliant deep sea whale that can fly above waters. The protagonist Captain Ahab from the original novel became one that is so dumb and idiotic, all he knows is keep yelling to his subordinates, "Will someone tell me what is going on?" As a captain, he doesn't seem to have a clue. When he was holding a Bazooka gun at the end, he held it for more than 10 minutes, he was still aiming, aiming, and aiming with a huge target like Moby Dick.
The Moby Dick in the movie, not only coming from the deep sea, this super brilliant whale can fly above water, above the beach, and above any terrans as it wishes. Maybe the director wants to contrast the brilliance of a mammal from water to the stupidity of homo sapiens on land.
Planet Dune (2021)
The title of the movie should be renamed to Planet Frustration
This is a low-budget movie and a re-make of the previous "Tremors" (1990). I gave it a 4 for the special effects and the space crafts which were nicely created. The script and the acting part were so poorly done that you wish you had better things to do than watch it. This is a science fiction movie in the distant future but the whole script is still revolving around the conflicts of the US and Russia. The acting among actors and actresses in the movie behave like a whole bunch of high school, no, middle schoolers. The pilot of a spacecraft in her 20-something is using moonshiners in the movie. How exciting! The rest of their dialogues are mostly whining and blaming each other. The sandworm can digest a human but on the other hand, it can be easily killed with an electric shock. Spending 20 minutes with the movie is quite enough. Otherwise, you have to watch them using the walkie-talkie to communicate and their smart idea of using moonshiners to burn up their spacecraft. A very childish and frustrating movie.
The Machine (2023)
The most irritating movie of 2023
The character Bert is absolutely not funny and this movie is not qualified as a comedy either. Other than displaying a childish character with both the IQ and EQ of a ten-year-old, Bert's every move in this movie has irritated me from the beginning to the end.
This character did not make me laugh but angry. Just like his daughter's comment about her father's plan to throw a party for her 16th birthday -- Bert embarrasses her in every way he can.
The storyline itself is boring when it comes to an actor who is supposed to play a funny character but ends up displaying a self-centered, egotistic, and chauvinistic personality in every step of the film, the whole movie is a disaster.
Violent Night (2022)
The adult version of Home Alone 4
If you can stand some violence scenes, this movie is the comical version of Home Alone series. Only better. You do not expect this movie is a comedy, the plot leads you to think this is serious movie with terrorists and lots of gores. The funny part is the stupidity of the jerks that they shot at their foot and each other. The Santa Claus is the Christmas version of the superhero Thor who kills with a milled face steel head wood sledge hammer.
This movie is a re-made or an inspired version of Home Alone series. Nobody would anticipate the villains were so dumb. It mingles well with a so-called "real" version of the Santa Claus. It is entertaining.
Yunnan chong gu (2018)
A dumb movie in the name and category of fantasy
Other than the CGI that I can give credit to, the acting was so childish and their "heroic" actions were so dumb. All they know is to say "run" when they wake the monsters. Facing the monsters, they got the brilliant mind to use a regular rope to stop the monsters. When they were running away from the giant crocodiles, one of them used a bow and arrows to fight back. When they were facing any challenges, the team would unconsciously stand together in a straight line for the camera shot. Watching this movie made me feel like it was made for seven years old kids. Strongly suggest MPA film ratings should create a new category called NC-7: No One 7 and above admitted. Clearly children. Adults are not admitted.
Running with the Devil (2019)
Transportation of the illegal drug with its prices adjusting throughout the movie
I found the adjusting prices of cocaine throughout Colombia to Canada interesting:
Price per Kilo:
Chingaza National Park to Bogota, Colombia - $4000
Port of Veracruz, Mexico (by sea) - $8000
Monterrey, Mexico - $10,000
Tecate, Mexico (bribe) - $14,000
Death Valley National Park (by air) - $21,000
Seattle, USA via North Cascade National Park to Vancouver, Canada (on foot) - $34,000
Jiu long bu bai (2019)
None of the main characters of this movie are native Cantonese speakers
This movie is a Hong Kong production and the DVD comes with a Cantonese version. All the main characters of this movie are from all over the world but not Hong Kong. Anderson Silva is Brazilian American. Kevin Cheng and Juju Chan are Chinese American from San Francisco and New York. Annie Liu is from Taiwan and Jin Zhang is from China. None of them are native Cantonese speakers. Their dialogues in Cantonese are so funny and not one person can speak fluent Cantonese. Skip the Cantonese version.
