Damn Good
7 January 2022
This movie is the first great Spiderman film in over a decade, combining elements of all three series of Spider-Man films to make a fun, action packed ride that absolutely steals my number one film of year. My biggest criticism of this film is the wild inconsistencies tonally, the most serious scene in the movie is followed almost immediately by a comedy scene, which is then followed by another very serious scene. This also happens for the plot of Spider-Man's exposure, it seems afraid to let serious moments play out at times, The Lizard and Sandman seem like afterthoughts, I felt they could've done more, especially with Sandman and his role in Raimi's trilogy, I can see why they didn't however, because the film already flows so well. Obviously, I recommend it, but I'm sure you've already seen it.

So Bad it's Good
6 January 2022
Absolutely crazy movie, McDowell aside, the acting is terrible, the makeup is terrible, the set design is terrible, the writing is terrible and the plot is terrible. Yet it has a charm I can't quite describe. You'd need to see this movie to really understand.

A Fun Homage to its 80s Counterparts
13 December 2021
This is a fun movie, it blends nostalgia with new material very well and treats the previous films with respect. Mckenna Grace is a standout, putting on the performance of the film, which she is, at this point, known for. She showcases her talent that will definitely make her a future superstar actress. At some points, call backs seem a bit too potent, even interfering with the plot, and at one point, the characters have a divide despite several people clearly seeing the cause of the town's plight. It's a fun film, worth a watch, if just for McKenna or Paul Rudd. All the acting is good and fun, and a better film than 2016's Ghostbusters by far. Hope this film spawns more films with these characters.

Great Film, but Not Without its Flaws
18 November 2021
This film tackles hard topics with a confidence almost unseen in cinematic history prior, headed by one of cinema's most talented directors, Spike Lee. Spike tells the story of a particularly hot dog day tearing a neighborhood apart and makes a film that, while surely a product of its time, is still very relevant today. My one criticism is that it doesn't quite say anything about the animosity, but rather takes an optic on it, not an inherent flaw, but not my type of film, personally. A must watch, but one I certainly don't likely see myself watching it again.

Gritty, Realistic, Brutal

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is not for the faint of heart. It contains scenes portraying domestic abuse and shows the mental breakdown of a man with jealousy and anger issues. DeNiro performs wonderfully in this film directed by one of the great American filmmakers; Martin Scorsese. While there is little to like about our lead, not only is the acting brilliant, but so is the camerawork. For a black and white film, Scorsese does well to make the gore realistic, giving the viewer closeups on pummeled faces to show the true gruesome nature of the sport. Personally, this is my favorite sports movie, it's one of Scorsese's greatest films and it undoubtedly holds up under scrutiny today.

An Italian Classic
9 November 2021
One of the great Italian Neo-Realist films. Profound and beautiful in a way only Italian cinema can fully communicate. A must-see for any cinephile who has an aptitude, like myself, for Italian cinema and foreign cinema of the mid-nineteen hundreds.

Should Have Never Existed
1 May 2021
There are shots in this film with no dialogue and the saturated colors just popping out, the soundtrack of toned down techno music drowned beneath echoes. There's a shot at the end where they are all ushered in and out of a room that's really effective and shows Cappola's brilliance as a director, something she undoubtedly learned from her father. However, this film works whenever no one's talking, because the script is terrible and every character in the film is unbearably stupid, this is accurate, granted, but it makes for bland, annoying characters. Emma Watson can't even pull off these lines. Believe me, she tries. She holds this film on her shoulders for the most part, not to say the other actors are bad, they just have basically nothing as a script. Emma's American accent is spotty at best and she really tries. It's obvious that this movie shouldn't exist with entirely unrelatable characters, an uninteresting plot and miserable performances from good actors. This film was dead in the water before I even got to watch it.

A Truly Great Film
29 April 2021
Not much to say, it's beautifully done, it's truly profound and inspired and Hopkins gives the performance of his career. This film is a must-see, once-in-a-lifetime piece that accurately depicts dementia, and ends on one of the most heartbreaking scenes in all of cinema. Please watch this movie, it deserves every second of your time.

Truly Profound
7 April 2021
I've been on an Emma Watson tear as of late, having developed a new love for her as an actress and watching this movie, I had the most intimate, profound movie experience I've ever had. Every actor is great, the direction is great, the shots are great, this movie is great. I haven't had an experience like this since American Beauty. That alone should tell you that this film is a must see for any cinephile.

The Name Fits its Movie
10 September 2020
The film is overlong, feels like it's crawling by on several occasions, and is overall a pretty bad film. The cast is charming, in other movies. Schumer is obnoxiously overbearing, John Cena underused, LeBron- well he's the best part of the movie. It's a constant barrage of unfunny bits with no character, an uninspired score and an is an offensively bad film. If The Last Airbender weren't a movie, this'd be my personal number one worst film ever.

Wonderfully Average
13 July 2020
This is a fun movie, it has several good laughs, usually from Jim Carrey and Steve Carell's weirdly over-the-top performances that gives them ample opportunity to work off of one another. Unfortunately the movie would be better if it were fifteen minutes shorter and infinitely less predictable. There is a specific subplot that I called from the minute its possibility was introduced. And the protagonist's agony was dragged on for far too long, even if it were deserved. If you love magic, this movie provides some fun insight, but it's hard to feel sympathy for two kids who were bullied by Greg Heffley, unfortunately. Watch this in the background while you do something more important after you've seen it once. That's the best advice I can give you.

For Those Who Like Bam
9 July 2020
As you can tell from my review of Viva La Bam, I love the ridiculous slapstick comedy and rich boy shenanigans he brings to the table. This is a spin-off of the show that is most similar to Haggard in execution, with a scripted story and whatnot. It allows, if you let yourself suspend your disbelief, for the fantastical elements to be a welcome touch. While the plot and premise may be dumb, was Bam Margera ever actually smart?

Stupid Fun
8 July 2020
When I was young, I would watch this with my mother and we were in awe of all the crazy things Bam would do. He fueled my love for skating with his hilarious slapstick and his constant torturing of everyone around him. It's basically Jackass with a plot which was enough for us. I wouldn't suggest showing this to your impressionable five or six year old for gear of them growing up wanting to be Bam, but it's a great show to chill with a cold one, hang out with your buddies or watch with your partner, and just get a much-deserved laugh at their sophomore hijinks.

An Entertaining Watch With your Family
7 July 2020
This movie was the first movie I'd ever seen in the cinema. I went to see it with my best friend. He'd read the books, I hadn't and still haven't, most likely won't ever, because I've always preferred more adult literature. But I walked in as a HUGE Jim Carrey fan (as I still am today). The sets are are perfect, the music is playfully dark the tone is a weird mixture of depressing and hopeful, and I love it. Everyone is great in this movie, well almost everyone. Klaus is the only character that is difficult to watch because his actor is so inexpressive with his delivery that it just bores me whenever he talks, the movie also gave me my first crush, Emily Browning, who plays Violet Boudelaire, she's easily the best child actor in the film, often times giving the viewers a much needed break from Klaus' tedious indecisiveness. Another issue I have with this film is how fast-paced it is, it rushes through the books so fast that some plot points don't connect with the gravity they could've had the scene been given another ten to fifteen minutes. But Jim Carrey's hilarious antics, Meryl Streep's fun, if annoying performance and Bill Connolly's heartfelt and genuine tenure as Uncle Monty make for an entertaining watch. Going back to my story, we both (me and my friend) had a blast. He was slightly disappointed because of what they didn't do or left out but we both left thoroughly entertained.

A Great Adaptation and an Entertaining Show
7 July 2020
I remember going to see the original movie with a friend when it came out, I was there for Jim and he loved the books. He walked away feeling happy with what he got yet disappointed at what he didn't and I walked away with a massive crush on Emily Browning. Years later, the show came out and I swore not to watch it because it didn't have Jim Carrey, it wasn't until the final season came out that my friend insisted we watch it before he moved away to California, and we did. I fell in love immediately with the music, the narrator and the atmosphere, but the absence of the movie's cast plagued the first season for me, and if you thought the baby's CG in the first one was off, this show has some nightmare fuel in store for you, even he was slightly disappointed at NPH's more laid back performance, then we watched the second and third seasons and the plot lines got tighter, the characters got more fleshed out, everything got so much more interesting. I've never read the books, but the character's were always so interesting and the troupe was better than the movie. Occasionally it drags, but everything about this show makes you want to watch more. I still prefer Olaf, Josephine and Montgomery from the movie, but otherwise, the show does it better, and it holds a place in my heart next to the original.

good for an Adam Sandler movie
3 July 2020
With Adam Sandler I have an unfortunate trend of hating absolutely everything he does, this movie however is different. It's so stupid and honest of its stupidity that it somehow makes its way right back to being funny. It's the McDonald's of comedy. It works, but it's not good for you.

Brilliance of Direction and Acting
30 June 2020
Heath Ledger and Christian Bale star in perhaps what is the greatest comic book movie of all time. Heath's performance might just be the greatest in history, Bale knocks it out of the park and Nolan delivers another classic, using cinematography brilliantly with the lighting to emphasize the moral struggle Batman undergoes. This is one of the greatest movies ever for a reason.
