Québec-Montréal (2002)
Great Writing - Typical Pearson... in a good way...
Just like l'Horloge Biologique, Québec-Montréal is a GUY MOVIE... not in a Chuck Norris way, but in a sensitive (as much as guys can be) road movie "à la" Sideways. The characters are very well defined, their personalities are clear, they are revealed at a good pace, the dialogue rings true (at least to a middle-aged French-Candian man like me.... Some of their traits are clichés, but it still rings truer than most "reality shows" on TV today. The ending may leave you on your appetite, but like life life, I like movies with an open end. I recommend inviting a couple of guys over, buy a 2-4, order some "Au Coq" and make it a double feature with l'Horloge Biologique.... those who still have stamina can follow-up with Sideways... If you don't end-up in a Group Hug with your friends, than you are not good friends...
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)
Classic Ferrell
This is just pure Ferrell,. Stereotypes are a little too much in your face; I can see why the European release is only in a few months, they have to prepare the public for the biggest slap in the face ever. Although, it equally mocks the southern culture of Americans. While Ferrell is usually very predictable, there are a few surprises in the movie. I wouldn't call it suspenseful, because the storyline is nothing different to Herbie Fully Loaded or Days of Thunder, but the slapstick humor works. You've all seen the knife in the leg scene in the previews, ... well there's more to it, and even if you expect it, they really rub it in, literally, and it made me laugh more than
Force majeure (1989)
Enticing!
One of the best movies I've seen in years. A great debate on personal ethics. You can not avoid putting yourself in that situation and ask yourself, "What would I do?". The main 2 characters bring such different perspective to the story. Both actors play them to the perfection, they ring very true. They even take a shot at the media; how it can exploit such stories irregardless of the human side of it. Very suspenseful, more than its rotten American remake, that's for sure. The movie is very well structured. It sets up the characters and the situation in a timely manner, and it progresses very well, with an escalation of the suspense. I RECOMMEND it highly (if you can find it)
