The Bell (1982)
The spirit of an era
Someone suggested that a film should be made. It wouldn't work, there simply are no longer the same calibre of actors available.
I keep hoping that the BBC will release this on DVD. I assume it is the bane of repeat fee residuals that is the problem. Surely some of the billions we pay them should be used to provide a little retirement money for the folk involved. We have already lost actors like Ian Holm who played their parts so magnificently: the cast is a roll call of the best actors of the 1980s. And no, sadly I did not take part...
I recently found that 'The Golden Bowl' is available on DVD, so possibly there is still hope. Though of course it is possibly the American connection that has elevated this in the BBC's commercial eyes...
Miss Robin Hood (1952)
Thora Hird?
Curiously Richard Hearndall's wife gets no credit, but the lady looks extremely similar to Thora Hird. Most odd...Apparently an actress called Fanny Rowe. Were they related?
Endeavour: Icarus (2018)
A terrible mishmash
Bits of If...., Unman wittering and Zygo, Edward G Robinson etc., etc. What a mess of a plot. A very unworthy successor to Morse and Lewis. Currently rated here at 8.9! I suppose it demonstrates the low ebb to which TV drama has fallen.
