I'm hooked
24 December 2022
I haven't read the books. This hooked me. Beautiful filming and pace, well put together. Good characters, and I am anticipating the episode releases every week. I suppose the only far fetched thing is so many deaths in a tiny place. But perhaps the bad energy from the history of the place is being used in the story to explain it. Can't wait for more!

Weird reviews from folks. It wasn't amateur nor badly written like those reviewers said, the characters don't come across as American... they say Alfred Molina's character did schooling in England, which helps with his accent. The other characters come across Canadian. The First Nations thread was done well.

A lot of falsehoods and disjointed storytelling
25 September 2022
Sorry, didn't like it. As I was watching I was researching the accuracy. Why tf did they lie unnecessarily? He wasn't arrested. He wasn't friends with BB King and so wouldn't be qarching Little Richard with him. And why were they playing modern music in the movie? It jumped around so much it was not great storytelling.

The lead actor was great. But now you are going to have younger generations believing lies. They made a lot of assumptions that people would know who all the people were and his story. I found myself irritated in the movie.

Pros - the kid they got to play him as a child really looked like him. Again, the lead actor great.

Oscar-Worthy Performances for this Epic True Story!
5 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what the other reviewers watch. The movie wasn't full of bad acting or ridiculous one-liners. This clearly was a true story. Some of the "actors" weren't weird looking at all and clearly they've acted in many, many, many movies before, it wasn't their first time at all.

The main actor is Kristoffer Kristofferson's son and it's totally believable that a blond Scandinavian is biological brothers with a hairy Arabic man.

And totally believable that when the main character is told to be "immune", and he doesn't acknowledge this when the main lady comes and is also immune.

You see plot holes, I see swiss cheese.

It only contributes to the solid plot, when at the end the woman said she left 3 vials of blood in the fridge, but there was only one, and it was only about 1/4 full.

Just employing the Sense 8 cast. Didn't need to be made, but take my money because of the originals.
13 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Not that great. Watch for the nostalgia. None of the sequels touch the first one. This one felt like it was missing something. I like the idea of it, but Lana Wachowski seems to insert pretentious, spiels. She did that several times here, and over and over in the Sense 8 series, it took away from it.

I guess this was a movie of her friends, as a lot of the original cast and of Sense 8 were in the movie.

It lacked the magic of the originals. The originals we were hooked on figuring out the ideas. This one didn't really have new ideas. They emphasized the pointlessness part of existing in the matrix. But also I was left with the feeling that Neo and Trinity coming back was also pointless in the real world. Like they are too old to have children, so they aren't birthing something. Are they just going to meddle and try to save people? Just fly around and do stuff? I suppose that reflects mid-age people at the moment... who aren't choosing children and there is a pointlessness about their lives. So people just get bitter and dabble in other peoples lives or unimportant things. Maybe then Trinity and Neo will start to get annoying, as they'll start inserting themselves into things people didn't ask for. Kind of like a generation that is annoying because it's purposeless.

I think if more sequels come... yes, I will watch. But this is a disappointing start. Maybe play into the various phases of life. They are a bit older than mid-age, maybe their shift into elders and to death are next.

Loved it!
24 January 2021
This was just really enjoyable to watch. I binged it. I can't quite figure out the low ratings, so I clicked on a few of the folks - most really like to complain as all their reviews are crotchedy. I also think Americans maybe are getting a dubbed version... perhaps they don't like reading subtitles? Maybe that's why they didn't like it, as dubbed versions are never as good as the actual voice of the actors. Anyways, I didn't know of this book series before, that is referenced in the show. So had no starting point. And I barely understand French. But it was fun and hooks you and I can't wait until Part 2!

Concept Good but Editing and Forced Video Chats Not Good
14 November 2020
I think great concept, but the editing was jumpy when it didn't need to be... they are comedians. Don't try and make the editing funny, it wasn't needed and it made it feel too short instead of with some meat. And the video chats were forced (sorry LeeAnn). But other than that I think it's a cool concept. I don't know why people were upset by episode 4.... that is her humour and the joke. The mix. Ms. Pat is endearing and funny. It's cool Bert. But get the Netflix team to revise their part.

Not bad. Americans need to let go of black people only rapping
24 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I thought it was pretty good. Good characters. Maybe needed a little more showing of the powers, but overall neat story. Americans really need to let go of always showing black people in movies having the only talent of rapping. The whole movie that character was doing cool things, and they end on - forget all those cool things, the girl raps. That's dumb. Get out of the stereotype. She found gangster drug dealers, helped save someone, overall did good. Who tf cares about the rapping? Americans are so stuck in their one track mind sometimes, I don't get it.

Original Better. Though an easy watch. Maybe should have chosen younger lead.
20 July 2020
I think the original was better. Though I like Anna Faris. The man... maybe they should have chosen a younger actor? That's very rude of me to say, but it just didn't match and they didn't have chemistry. Some funny parts.

Too "woke". It's phony.
5 July 2020
Oh look how woke this show is (eyeroll). Trans person. Check. Black and Asian characters. Check. Somehow a bunch of Americans people, accents when they are in Spain. She uses woke terms like "narrative". Woke feminism threads every piece of it. It's f-ing annoying because it's a creepy caricature. Phony. Why do you all have to ruin storytelling with this crap? It could have been so much better.

Wow! Is this show ever good!
13 May 2020
I only heard about this because Bobby Lee mentioned it on one of his podcasts. So happy I watched it. Gosh this show makes you feel so many things. That can be hard to achieve. Wonderful acting. I suppose for all the love scenes, you could say it's hot. But the way it's done it just made me tap into my memories of past loves and intimate moments. Love, unfolding oneself, anguish and heartache and sorrow, loneliness, yearning, all of it. Can't wait for more.

In the Top 10 Stupidest Movies I've Ever Seen
10 April 2020
What on Earth was that movie? I found it annoying. First it was extremely aggravating, all the townspeople. Then where the story turned was out of nowhere and had no magic as it was paired with such poor storytelling. So then in the hopes it would turn for the better, I watched more and found it was an annoying, nonsensical story. I'm left with the most crotchedy feeling. Movies are supposed to make you feel something. So congrats to the movie makers, as I've never felt so irritated after a movie as this. Bahaha!

Cute, but didn't capture the 60s
8 April 2020
Cute movie and story. But the two girls acted too modern and not enough attention was paid to the speech and demeanor of the people to match the 1960s. I think maybe it should have just been set in modern day and it would have still worked and the viewer wouldn't have that in the back of their minds the whole time. Still wondering why that kid's lips are blue.

A show about mothers. And Richard Armitage... I could watch him all day.
22 March 2020
Now hear me out before you get snarky and "no" my review. Every single story in this series centred around mothers. Think about it. That vague mention aside, I was hooked right away, and despite what the other reviewers said, if I'm engaged and don't want to stop watching... that's a success of a show. Keeps you guessing until the end. Richard Armitage... gonna look up more of his stuff. I've only seen that North and South show and this one, and he's good.

Enjoyable
1 February 2020
I liked it and agree with the other reviewers - it was nice that it was more positive than the other fashion reality shows we've seen already. It was also nice to see work from already experienced designers who can actually sew really well, so the quality was definitely there in their work. I think eliminating 2 people every time I suppose sped up the show but didn't give us a sense of who these designers were really. I also think the show tried to be "woke" and mitigate any race cards being played as is common these days to garner sympathy.... so they had designers from all over the world, very multicultural. But alas, the race card was pulled, I'll let you find out for yourself when. And it didn't have grounds to be honest. Overall this was fun.

Unnecessarily dramatic episode
1 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Today people play the race card too much. It's a room full of multicultural designers. And those two designers play the race card as their means to try and win. I guess you can't blame but their points were... emotional but not seeing the bigger picture. That industry is competitive, catty and difficult. So much money goes through there. If they want in the game, they have to play it. They may think other designers steal their ideas without seeing that that is actually very common no matter what the race of the people involved. They also didn't see that frankly the criticisms of their clothes was accurate - it's all been ruffles and sloppy looking and too much. You can't just cry and pull the race card every time you hear a no because if any success comes from the sympathy you garner, it won't be sustainable because no one logically wants to just buy things out of sympathy forever, they have to like the clothes. And well... they weren't liking the clothes, that's honest.

Needs a re-work to be better
18 January 2020
I think the story was good. But it just came across as cheezy. Some of the acting wasn't that good or was over the top. The music was hokey, like a very bad TV movie cheezy. And I think just a re-work of how the scenes were put together is needed. And a couple things just came across as yell-at-the-screen stupid that distracted from the story. There's a formula for murder mystery movies, so a person can get caught up in the story. Those things I just listed messed with that, unfortunately. Too bad, as it was a good idea for a movie. The lead actress on trial was really good.

Hard to follow but interesting.
23 December 2019
This is an interesting show, but I'm finding it very hard to follow. It jumps time frequently and it took me a while to figure out that was happening. I can't keep any of the names and places straight, not sure they were introduced well enough. Not sure what people in the reviews are talking about with comparing it with Game of Thrones and it's nothing like it. Meh, it's interesting and done well, but nerdy-complicated that makes a person lost as to what's happening.

Too bad the owner was a brat
17 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Checked out owner so attached to dysfunction, he hires back someone who can't cook, another who is creepy. Fires and demotes two women who seemed to be capable. The owner seems like a little weenie. There must be something going on we don't see. Like why would that young chef accept a server job at the same place? Is the owner not really the owner? Someone with his demeanor doesn't seem like they'd be a good business owner, so maybe he's an actor or just a manager? Who knows. Show is interesting concept though.

Project Runway: What Do You Care About? (2019)
Season 17, Episode 10

Eye-rolling, Skip-Over Episode
10 September 2019
While the fashion world is probably the place for flakey PC statements and making art out of the goofy causes... I skipped to the end just to watch the runway as I'm tired of the outrage, irrational culture that is so prevalent these days, that these causes come from. Eye-rolling and elitist, too-simplified driveling on and on. While there is basis to the causes, it has lost it's impact and it came across as very tacky and forced.

Heidi and Tim were always very positive and upbeat and authentic. The male judge and Christian and the new host are very catty and rude. The whispering during the runway creeps me out and feels unprofessional. I know that cattiness is part of the fashion world, but it seems to an annoying, childish degree this season because it's coming from the folks who are supposed to lead this on top of the contestants.

Bad acting, supporting cast better
31 August 2019
Very cheezy acting by the lead actress. The supporting cast were kind of fun to watch. But the writing is a bit dumb at times, and over the top. Like she's a corporate woman who's into ecobuilding, yoga, exercise, always on her phone, independent woman that needs to be tamed. Predictable. I suppose this is meant for one of those brainless moving watching Saturday afternoons..

Hot
16 May 2019
The show really knows how to put together some good scenes. The silence and only hearing breathing took my own breath away. Whew! What the writers are also good at is the build up. The tension is lost if you reward at the wrong time. The reward comes when Beth is feeling powerful or figures something out. That is a major turn on. Well, show people... how does it feel to have your audience hooked in and craving more? ;-)

He's saying "Ma'am" not "Mum".
27 April 2019
I really thought I was good at accents, but throughout the whole thing I became convinced that British people must call their superior women "Mum". I did start to psychoanalyse the British for Mommy issues. Until I find out hot Scotsmen say "Ma'am" this way.

That aside, the series was great. Suspenseful, hot and had me hooked.

Felt forced
27 April 2019
It's not believable that these women would be friends. It felt really forced. The way the main actress played things isn't cohesive. Her friendships seemed to have her play it over the top and shallow, and incapable of something deeper. Then the relationship parts felt like she was a different woman... you would think with best friends and lovers, there would be some crossover in personality. Not for me.

Alright except one insertion
14 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It's weird that there are three movies released relatively close to each other that are essentially identical (A Quiet Place, Bird Box and now The Silence). This movie was alright except the priest + groupies part didn't fit. Aren't they only a few weeks into this crisis, and weird cults already are starting to form? I know this is clearly not realistic, with flying dinosaur creatures. But usually there are elements that are still realistic, to help make the story believable.
